In the increasingly competitive world of smartphone photography, Nubia is preparing to throw down a wild card. With its launch just around the corner, Nubia’s teasers are promising “natural imaging” and bold hardware upgrades of the Z80 Ultra. But can it truly deliver professional-level results—or will it end up as another flashy experiment?

Nubia has already confirmed the triple-camera setup through its latest teasers. The configuration includes a 35mm main shooter (50MP OV990 sensor, 1/1.3-inch, f/1.7 aperture) paired with a 18mm ultra-wide (1/1.55-inch sensor, f/1.8 aperture), and a 70mm telephoto lens (f/2.4, OIS, up to 50x hybrid zoom via 12x digital crop)

The biggest leap is with the ultra-wide lens, which replaces the Z70S Ultra’s narrower 13mm f/2.0 camera. The larger sensor should capture more light and produce less distortion, aided by an upgraded lens correction algorithm.

The sample images suggest Nubia is prioritizing authenticity over heavy processing. The main 35mm camera shows realistic colors and natural contrast. Some previews, however, appear slightly soft in detail—likely due to compression in teaser posts. Nubia’s sub-brand Red Magic recently released camera samples of its upcoming 11 Pro+, which also tells a similar story.

The 18mm ultra-wide produces balanced tones and reliable white balance in daylight, though its perspective leans more “wide” than “ultra.” Samples from the telephoto camera show strong contrast and clean subject separation with minimal noise.

Set to debut on October 22 in China, the Z80 Ultra builds on the Z70S Ultra’s design language, retaining its sleek, curved edges and dedicated shutter button that evoke a retro camera feel. Design tweaks are subtle, mostly revolving around a reshaped camera module that keeps the look familiar but refined.

Under the hood, the phone runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, backed by a rumored 7,200mAh battery, which could give it an edge in endurance over rival flagships.

For creators who value an immersive display and camera realism over algorithmic gloss, the Z80 Ultra might just be the sleeper hit to watch this season.
