Samsung launched the Galaxy S25 earlier this year in January, and Apple followed in September with the iPhone 17. Both devices land at the same $799 price point, and both bring significant upgrades in performance, display, and camera tech. But while the Galaxy S25 leans heavily into AI-powered features and smart interactions, the iPhone 17 focuses on display quality, battery life, and a more streamlined user experience.

Since both of these phones are already proving popular in their own ways, and Apple’s base iPhone is now more competitive than ever, it’s time to break things down clearly: Should you buy the iPhone 17 over the Galaxy S25? Let’s find out.

1. Display and Design

The iPhone 17 finally brings ProMotion to the base model, offering a 6.3-inch OLED display with adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz. It hits a peak outdoor brightness of 3000 nits, which is noticeably brighter than the S25’s 2600 nits panel. That makes the iPhone more readable in direct sunlight. Apple’s new Ceramic Shield 2 also claims 3x better scratch resistance, with a new anti-glare layer that helps cut reflections.

The Galaxy S25, on the other hand, has a smaller 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, but the difference in size is marginal. It supports the same 1-120Hz variable refresh, and Samsung’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is still a tank in terms of durability. Design-wise, both phones are slim and light, though the S25 is slightly more compact and weighs 15g less.

So it comes down to this: if brightness and visual clarity outdoors matter, the iPhone 17 wins. If you prefer a slightly more compact phone, the S25 might feel better in-hand.
