The P9 portable SSD features a USB4 40Gbps interface and will be available in storage options of up to 8TB. According to Samsung, this is the world’s first and only 8TB external SSD that supports USB4, making it a significant leap forward in portable storage.

The company claims the P9 can store over two million photos or as many as 3,720 HD videos, making it suitable for content creators, professionals, and gamers who require large, fast, and portable storage.

Samsung has developed a new thermal control technology for the P9, which enhances power efficiency while maintaining high-speed performance. The drive improves read power efficiency by 333% and write efficiency by 405% compared to the previous generation. This improvement not only boosts performance but also helps extend the battery life of connected devices.

The P9 supports real-time editing of up to 12K video streams and works across a wide range of devices. It is compatible with Windows, macOS, Android smartphones and tablets, game consoles, and professional production equipment.

Samsung has not yet announced a specific launch date or pricing, but the Portable SSD P9 is expected to be officially unveiled at CES, which starts tomorrow on January 6.

In related news, Samsung has recently unveiled a 130-inch Micro RGB TV that delivers the industry’s widest color gamut, and the company has also revealed its world’s brightest QD-OLED TV ahead of CES 2026.
