Sony has launched the WF-1000XM6 wireless earbuds, claiming a 25 percent noise cancellation improvement over the WF-1000XM5, particularly in mid-to-high frequencies encountered in everyday settings.
The earbuds deploy Sony’s HD Noise Canceling Processor QN3e and Integrated Processor V2. Each earbud now houses four microphones instead of three, paired with an Adaptive Noise Canceling Optimizer that continuously analyzes external noise and fit conditions. The system compensates for sound leakage from imperfect ear tip seals. New Noise Isolation Earbud Tips come in four sizes, and the earbuds are 11 percent slimmer, conforming to inner ear anatomy. A ventilation structure reduces internal noise from movement and chewing.
Audio processing uses dual processors with enhanced DAC amplification and 32-bit support. The driver unit combines a soft edge for bass response with a rigid dome for high-frequency extension. The package includes Hi-Res Audio Wireless, DSEE Extreme upscaling, 360 Reality Audio, 10-band EQ via the Sound Connect app, head tracking, and Background Music Effect. Sony consulted mastering engineers Randy Merrill, Chris Gehringer, Mike Piacentini, and Michael Romanowski for sound tuning.
Call quality relies on bone conduction sensors, dual microphones with AI beamforming, and AI-based noise reduction per earbud. Connectivity improvements include antennas 1.5 times larger than the previous generation. The earbuds support LE Audio and deliver up to eight hours of playback, extending to 24 hours with the charging case. Qi wireless charging is included.
The WF-1000XM6 launches at $329.99 USD ($429.99 CAD) in Black and Platinum Silver.
