Huawei‘s next big camera upgrade may not be a larger sensor or a longer zoom lens. According to a new leak from Digital Chat Station, the company is reportedly testing a more advanced multi-camera fusion system for a future Pura flagship, widely believed to be the Pura 100 series.

Instead of relying primarily on whichever camera is active at a given focal length, Huawei is said to be combining image data from the main, ultrawide, and telephoto cameras at the same time. The end result would be a single image built using information from multiple sensors simultaneously.

That concept is not entirely new. Other smartphone brands have experimented with similar approaches before, particularly for zoom photography. But the leak suggests Huawei is pushing the idea further by integrating multi-spectral sensor data into the process as well.

Huawei already uses multi-spectral sensors in some of its recent flagships to improve color accuracy and scene recognition. If those sensors are feeding information into the ISP at once, the phone could theoretically produce more consistent colors and detail regardless of which focal length is being used.

One potential benefit is smoother transitions between cameras while zooming. Smartphone cameras often struggle with subtle differences in color, exposure, and detail when switching between lenses. A deeper fusion system could help minimize some of those inconsistencies.

The leak remains fairly light on technical details, and it’s worth remembering that the technology is reportedly still in testing. Products this far from launch can change significantly before reaching consumers, and some features never make it into final hardware at all.

Still, the report fits Huawei’s recent direction. If the technology does make its way into the Pura 100 lineup, it could end up being one of the more interesting camera developments to watch over the next couple of years. For now, though, it’s best viewed as an early glimpse into what Huawei’s imaging team may be working on behind the scenes.
