Traditional cameras usually stick with either a digital screen or a classic optical viewfinder, but Godox just flipped the script with something refreshingly different. Their new C100 is an ultra-affordable little camera that ditches the usual rear LCD for a big transparent window that works as both a viewfinder and a display. It feels like a clever hybrid that makes shooting more engaging and fun.

The C100 is ridiculously lightweight, just 65 grams. Instead of staring at a glowing screen, you look through this see-through optical viewfinder with over 50% light transmittance. The screen gently overlays all the important info: battery level, shooting mode, exposure settings, and framing guides.

The camera gives you some flexibility with aspect ratios: 1:1, 3:2, 4:3, and 16:9, so you can experiment however you like. Photos and videos save to a microSD card (up to 128GB), and there’s USB-C for quick transfers to your phone. Godox skipped Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, which makes sense if the goal was to keep the camera affordable. Don’t expect flagship image quality here. It’s more in the ballpark of basic point-and-shoots or fun toy cameras.

What I really like is the minimalist approach. The design keeps things distraction-free with just subtle corner overlays for composition. It encourages you to slow down, actually look at your subject, and shoot more intentionally. This could be a hit with anyone who wants a pocketable camera that feels more like an extension of their eyes than another gadget.

Pricing and availability

It’s launching first in China for around CNY 199 (roughly $29), but Godox gear usually makes its way internationally pretty quickly. Given the brand’s track record with solid, budget-friendly photo tools, I can see this appealing to kids and students as a fun camera. This compact camera is proof that innovative design doesn’t always need a big price tag.
