The rumor mill has been consistently leaking details about the OnePlus 16, and the latest one points to a major display upgrade. The upcoming flagship is reportedly being developed with a new custom material and circuit design, with the improvements expected to focus on power efficiency, durability, and smoother overall performance.
OnePlus 16 tipped to feature custom X4 display material

According to well-known tipster Digital Chat Station, OnePlus and BOE have jointly developed a new X4 light-emitting material for the OnePlus 16. Internal testing reportedly shows the material outperforming Samsung’s M-series panels across nearly all key metrics, although exact figures have not been disclosed.
The X4 material is said to deliver extremely low power consumption while also doubling the lifespan compared to the previous generation. This improved efficiency could be especially important for a high-refresh-rate flagship, where maintaining smooth performance typically increases power usage. A longer lifespan could also help ensure more consistent brightness and display quality over time.
The OnePlus 16 is also expected to stick with a flat display design while introducing ultra-thin bezels on all four sides. OnePlus has already been working closely with BOE on recent flagship screens, with the OnePlus 15 featuring a 165Hz third-generation Oriental Screen and a custom X3 light-emitting material.
The X4 upgrade reportedly goes beyond just the display material itself. The new material and updated circuit design are said to enable additional smoothness-focused features, along with several high-end display technologies that could push panel performance further. However, key details such as resolution, peak brightness, and the final refresh rate have not yet been revealed.
The OnePlus 16 is also expected to bring major gaming-related improvements. OnePlus China president Li Jie previously confirmed that the company’s three exclusive gaming technologies will receive significant upgrades on the next flagship, including a 185Hz high-refresh-rate display, the Fengchi gaming engine, and e-sports triple-core technology.
As for the launch, the OnePlus 16, which reportedly carries the model number PYB110, has already secured an important certification in China. The flagship is expected to make its debut in October.
