Xiaomi has launched the second-generation Mijia Wireless Hair Straightener in China. The new model gets a larger battery, a redesigned comb, and updated heating hardware.
The Mijia Wireless Hair Straightener 2 is now available through Xiaomi Youpin for 299 yuan (~ $45), which is the same launch price as the first-generation model.
The biggest upgrade here is the battery. The original model used two 3200mAh cells, while the new version has two 5000mAh batteries. Xiaomi says it can run for up to 70 minutes on a full charge, which is enough for around seven to eight sessions on short hair or three to four sessions on medium-length hair. The first model managed around four sessions for either hair length.
Charging is still handled through a USB Type-C port, so you can use a standard Type-C cable instead of carrying a separate charging cable.
The heating system has also been updated. The Mijia Wireless Hair Straightener 2 uses a PI heating film instead of the MCH ceramic heating element found in the previous model. An NTC sensor checks the temperature 500 times per second, and Xiaomi says this helps reduce preheating time by 20%.
There are three temperature settings: 160°C, 180°C, and 200°C. The straightener also has a real-time LED display that shows the current temperature, power consumption, and operating status.
Redesigned comb and plasma system
Xiaomi has made changes to the comb as well. The new model has 52 teeth, compared with 36 on the previous version. The additional teeth are designed to hold more hair as you move the straightener through each section.
For frizz and static control, the Mijia Wireless Hair Straightener 2 produces 37 million composite plasma particles per session. This includes 18 million positive ions and 19 million negative ions. The previous model used negative ions alone, while the new system combines both types of ions.
The Mijia Wireless Hair Straightener 2 is still a compact cordless device designed for everyday use and travel. The larger battery and redesigned comb address two of the main limitations of the previous model, while the updated heating system adds a few more changes to the overall design.
