Samsung’s wider foldable design opens up new ways to use the Galaxy Z Fold 8 beyond simply unfolding it into a larger screen. From watching videos at a comfortable angle to running three apps simultaneously, the device offers several practical ways to take advantage of its unconventional form factor. Here are seven ways I enjoyed using it.

5Enjoy the compact size for everyday use

Despite its larger inner display, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 remains compact enough to use as a regular phone when folded. The cover screen handles everyday tasks such as checking notifications, opening apps, replying to messages, and browsing without requiring you to unfold the device every time.

However, its almost-square shape introduces a small usability quirk. When the phone is in your pocket, locating the volume buttons by touch can be less intuitive than on a conventional smartphone or a narrower foldable. You may need to adjust your grip to increase or decrease the volume.

The phone can also wobble when placed on a flat surface, particularly when you tap the screen, because its rear cameras are positioned in the corner. It is not a deal-breaker, but it is worth noting. The same issue also affects Apple’s iPhone Duo, which also features a corner-mounted camera setup. In contrast, the horizontal camera bar designs available with the Xiaomi 18 Fold and Huawei Pura X Max offer a different approach to balancing the devices on a surface. However, I have only tested the Samsung, so I cannot confirm how the other foldables behave in this regard.
