Vivo is expanding beyond smartphones with the Vision Discovery Edition, its first mixed reality (MR) headset. Showcased in India alongside the Vivo X Fold 6 at the Vivo NEXT event on October 6, the headset offers a glimpse into the company’s ambitions in spatial computing, entertainment, and gaming.
I got to try the Vivo Vision Discovery Edition at the event, exploring its interface, controls, virtual environments, and gaming features. Although my session was brief, the experience was positive. However, the headset is currently not available for purchase in India, with no confirmed retail price or consumer sales date.
2Exploring the Spatial Interface
The headset runs OriginOS Vision, which places applications and content within a virtual environment. The home screen displayed Settings, Browser, File Manager, Albums, Player, and two games named Vigo and Pat Pat.
The app selection was limited on the demonstration unit. Rather than a fully established consumer ecosystem, the showcase focused on demonstrating the headset’s core capabilities. A broader application selection and stronger third-party support will be important if Vivo intends to make the headset useful beyond entertainment.

One highlight was the 360-degree virtual environment. As I moved my head and looked around, the scene changed with my viewpoint. Moving around made me feel as though I was walking through the virtual environment rather than simply watching a video. Vivo also advertises a virtual cinema experience equivalent to a 120-foot screen.
