Vivo is expanding beyond smartphones with the Vision Discovery Edition, its first mixed reality (MR) headset. Showcased in India alongside the Vivo X Fold 6 at the Vivo NEXT event on October 6, the headset offers a glimpse into the company’s ambitions in spatial computing, entertainment, and gaming.

I got to try the Vivo Vision Discovery Edition at the event, exploring its interface, controls, virtual environments, and gaming features. Although my session was brief, the experience was positive. However, the headset is currently not available for purchase in India, with no confirmed retail price or consumer sales date.

Vivo’s XR Console mirrored the headset’s interface onto a television during the demonstration, allowing others to follow the experience. The display showed the home screen, applications, and video playback.

I also explored multitasking, with multiple applications available within the spatial environment. This could make the headset useful for productivity as well as entertainment, although a longer session would be needed to assess its practicality for everyday work.
