A growing number of Samsung Galaxy Watch owners are posting photos and stories about unexpected skin reactions after sleeping with their smartwatches on. What starts as normal overnight health tracking has left some people with visible marks on their wrists, and it’s raising questions about heat and comfort.

The reports describe circular red patches, irritation, and in some cases fluid-filled blisters right under the sensor array on the back of the watch. These accounts are showing up on Reddit, Facebook groups, and Samsung’s own community forums.
One widely shared case involved a Galaxy Watch 5 Pro owner who went to bed with a fully charged watch and woke up to a completely drained battery and a blister on their wrist. Similar experiences have been reported by people with the Galaxy Watch 7, Watch 8, and Watch Ultra.
No one knows the exact cause yet. The usual suspects with any wearable still apply: wearing the band too tight, trapped moisture or sweat, and residue building up on the sensors. Samsung’s own support pages note that prolonged wear, perspiration, or not cleaning the device can lead to discomfort. Their advice is straightforward: take the watch off if irritation starts, clean both the watch and your skin regularly, and give the area a few days to recover.

That said, the blisters or red marks in some reports have people wondering if localized overheating might be involved rather than just regular contact irritation. A few users have pointed to unusually fast overnight battery drain as a possible clue, suggesting some process might be keeping the watch working harder than it should and generating extra heat.
Samsung hasn’t put out a statement acknowledging any manufacturing issue linked to these cases as of writing. If your watch feels unusually warm, starts hurting, or you notice blisters, take it off right away. Persistent or severe skin reactions are worth checking with a doctor, and it’s a good idea to reach out to Samsung support so they can look at the device.
These reports don’t currently point to a widespread safety crisis, but they are a solid reminder to keep an eye on both the watch’s temperature and your skin, especially if you’re wearing it overnight.
