Casio is adding a new model to its 2100 series of watches in Japan. The GBM-2100LXB-1A2, scheduled for release later this November, is currently available for pre-order at ¥42,900 ($270). The watch maintains the familiar octagonal shape of the 2100 line but incorporates a metal bezel, solar charging, and Bluetooth connectivity.

Design Details

For the exterior, Casio is using a combination of stainless steel and bio-based resin. The bezel is made of steel with a black ion-plated finish, giving the watch a uniform, dark appearance. This is paired with a bio-based resin band that features a square-dot texture.

On the dial, there is a grid pattern designed to visually match the band. To add some contrast to the all-black design, Casio applied a blue vapor deposition to the outer edge of the mineral glass, while the dial indexes are colored in gunmetal-gray. The watch measures 49.3 x 44.4 x 11.9 mm and weighs 72 grams.

On the technology side, the GBM-2100LXB-1A2 runs on Casio’s Tough Solar system, which charges the internal battery using both sunlight and artificial indoor lighting. On a full charge, the watch operates for about seven months under normal conditions, or up to 18 months if left in the dark with the power-saving mode turned on.

It also includes Bluetooth to connect with the Casio Watches smartphone app. This connection automatically corrects the time, lets users select from 300 world time cities, and provides a basic phone finder tool.

Beyond the solar and Bluetooth additions, it functions like a standard G-Shock. It has 200 meters of water resistance, standard shock resistance, a 1/100-second stopwatch, a countdown timer, and five daily alarms.

The display uses a double LED system to light up both the analog hands and the digital LCD screen in low light. It also includes a hand-shift feature that temporarily moves the analog hands out of the way if they are blocking the digital readout.

In related news, Casio has recently launched two new Baby-G BGA-10 watches featuring a clever color-changing dial mechanism, alongside the G-Shock DW-5600RBG-1 Union collaboration watch with bold Pan-African colors.
