After teasing for the last few days, the Asus ROG Phone 6D series debuts globally. The lineup consists of two models, namely ROG Phone 6D and ROG Phone 6D Ultimate.
As the teasers and leaks suggested, the new gaming smartphones from Asus come powered by MediaTek’s latest flagship chipset instead of Qualcomm’s. They also arrive with a few minor changes.
Let’s take a look at the specs of these handsets, in addition to their pricing and availability.
Asus ROG Phone 6D Series Specifications
The ROG Phone 6D and the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate house a MediaTek Dimensity 900 Plus SoC. For the unaware, the ROG Phone 6 and the ROG Phone 6 Pro from a while ago are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip.
Further, the newer devices arrive with LPDDR5x RAM instead of LPDDR5 RAM but the storage remains the same (UFS 3.1). However, the maxed-out variant is limited to 16GB RAM and 12GB for 6D Ultimate and 6D, respectively. For comparison, the regular 6 and 6 Pro can be availed with up to 16GB RAM and 18GB RAM, respectively.
The latest models offer Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity instead of Bluetooth 5.2. Lastly, the 6D Ultimate has a slot on the rear, which can be opened and used with the AeroActive Cooler accessory (included in the box) to lower the temperature. AeroActive Portal is the official name for this new cooling system.
With the exception of the aforementioned differences, the ROG Phone 6D series shares the remaining features with the ROG Phone 6 series. Hence, it arrives with a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2448 x 1080 pixels, up to a 165Hz refresh rate, an in-screen fingerprint sensor, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection.
There’s a triple camera system on the rear comprising a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary sensor, a 13MP ultra-wide unit, and a 5MP macro snapper. While the front of the phones nests a 12MP shooter for selfies and video calls.
Connectivity options include dual SIM, 5G, WiFi 6E, GNSS, and NFC. The smartphones also come with an IPX4 rating, 2 x USB Type-C ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack, dual stereo speakers, triple microphones, and a ROG Vision display on the back.
They boot Android 12 and offer both ROG UI and Zen UI. Asus promises two Android updates and 2 years of security updates.
Last but not least, the devices are backed by a 6,000mAh battery with support for 65W fast wired charging.
