Samsung’s Galaxy Z series remains at the forefront of the expanding market for foldable smartphones. Last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 garnered a significant number of buyers due to its robust construction and camera capabilities. Samsung is expected to enhance the build quality even further with its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5. However, a tipster has suggested that the new foldable phone may not feature any upgrades to its primary camera, which may remain the same as its predecessor.

According to Ice Universe, a reputed Samsung tipster, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will continue to have the same primary camera as the Z Fold 4 because it is “impossible to use HP2” on it. For the unaware, HP2 is Samsung’s 200MP ISOCELL HP2 sensor, which has been seen on the brand’s latest and greatest Galaxy S23 Ultra.

We are not sure why it’s “impossible” to use this new sensor on the Z Fold 5. Could it be due to the size and thickness of the sensor module? Maybe the mechanism for folding and unfolding the device poses some technical challenges. The cost of the HP2 200MP camera sensor could also be a factor in Samsung’s decision not to use it.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 was fitted with Samsung’s ISOCELL GN3 sensor, boasting a 50-megapixel resolution, an f/1.8 aperture, and a 1.0-micron pixel size. The sensor is equipped with advanced features like Dual Pixel PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus) and OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) that enhance the image quality and stabilize the shots.

The 200MP H2 sensor in question made its debut in the Galaxy S23 Ultra. It is equipped with impressive features such as an f/1.7 aperture, 0.6-micron pixels, Quad Phase Detection Autofocus for better low-light performance, Dual Vertical Transfer Gate technology for enhanced color accuracy and reduced overexposure, and OIS.
