ChatGPT is a large language model developed by OpenAI, designed to simulate human-like conversation through natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning algorithms. Since its release, ChatGPT has gained popularity and has been integrated into various organizations and platforms. For instance, it has been used by news outlets to generate news articles and customer service teams to provide personalized support. Its flexibility and versatility have made it a valuable tool for a wide range of applications. Furthermore, its open-source code allows developers to create their own variations, which can be tailored to specific needs and industries. GM is one other organization that is taking advantage of the tool, with the company confirming that it is integrating ChatGPT with its vehicles.

General Motors has recently announced that they are developing an in-car digital assistant powered by the same machine-learning models used in ChatGPT. GM Vice President Scott Miller stated that “ChatGPT is going to be in everything” and the automaker envisions the digital assistant supporting drivers in various situations. For example, it could help drivers replace their car’s tire in case of a flat or schedule integration with other devices like garage door openers.

The new assistant will be built differently from other chatbots such as Bing Chat, as GM is working on a “car-specific layer” on top of the ChatGPT language models. This is part of GM’s collaboration with Microsoft, which is OpenAI’s sole cloud provider. Although no name or release date has been provided yet, the GM spokesperson states that this shift towards emerging technologies will lead to future vehicles being far more capable overall.
