Apple is apparently planning on bringing a notable new health feature on its popular AirPods series of truly wireless earbuds. The company’s future AirPods might arrive with a hearing based health feature. So here are all the details.

The news arrives from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman who shared that these new features aren’t too far off. So we can expect the new health sensors to make their way on the wireless earphones by the next year or two. In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman stated that the Cupertino based giant is looking to soon upgrade the AirPods to also offer “health tool” functionalities as well within the next couple of years.

Furthermore, this would include the AirPods offering the users “the ability to get hearing data of some sort.” For those unaware, Apple has already been attempting at adding more hearing related functionalities to its users with Live Listen and Conversation Boost. Previously, we had even covered a report that suggested that the AirPods could function as a good cheap alternative for hearing aids. Although, Gurman added that these feature have yet to be approved by the FDA.

In other words, it is still far away from being a proper replacement to hearing aids. But its clear that the iPhone maker is working on adding various health related features on the AirPods. This includes aspects like biometric sensors, motion sensors, temperature monitors, heart rate trackers, perspiration, and more. Apple is likely making noticeable upgrades to the AirPods next year so we can expect these additional features to make its way by the second half of 2024 or first half of 2025.
