In a surprising turn of events, Xiaomi announced that it is skipping the Xiaomi 16 series and jumping straight to the Xiaomi 17 lineup. While we’ve already covered various rumors regarding a bold new redesign on the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, the company has finally offered an official look at the top flagship model, confirming the new cover display.

Xiaomi 17 Pro Max Leak Confirms Dual Display Design

This confirmation came after Xiaomi’s official Weibo account changed its profile picture for the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. It was apparently a mistake since the brand soon reverted the change, but it could just be a clever trick, as this supposed leak arrives soon after the Xiaomi 17 branding announcement. Looking at the picture, we can see a large rectangular module with rounded corners that houses the primary camera and a periscope telephoto shooter.

But this isn’t just any camera island as it also has a sizeable cover display as well. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a cover display, especially considering that it is common on flip phones, like the Mix Flip 2. The image of the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max also has a third camera module right below the rear display, which is likely the ultra wide angle lens. Other key details include the Leica branding and LED flash module.

The secondary screen will likely display crucial details like time, notifications, and even function as a camera viewfinder. To recall, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra also featured a similar screen on the rear camera module, but it was a lot smaller in size. Qualcomm just confirmed the name of its next flagship chip, which is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, that will likely power the upcoming Xiaomi 17 series.
