Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is official, and it claims some big upgrades over last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite. The third-gen Oryon CPU offers 20% improved performance, while also improving the power efficiency by 35%. The new Adreno 840 GPU, combined with software enhancements, promises a 23% performance boost and 20% better power efficiency.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is already making waves in early benchmark numbers, as we reported recently. But we’re more interested in finding out how big an upgrade it is over the Snapdragon 8 Elite. So, we compared the benchmark scores to determine the answer.
Snapdragon 8 Elite vs Snapdragon 8 Elite Benchmark score
The benchmark scores were obtained by testing the Xiaomi 17 (powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5), as shared by Digital Chat Station. For the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the tests were performed on the Realme GT 7 Pro.
Geekbench score
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 achieved 3,621 and 11,190 in single-core and multi-core performance, respectively, which is about 17% higher than the Snapdragon 8 Elite (3,122/9,507).
During the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 launch, Qualcomm claimed a 20% boost in single-core performance and 17% for multi-core, and the latest benchmark result aligns with that, mostly.
Geekbench 6 | SD 8 Elite Gen 5 | SD 8 Elite |
---|---|---|
Single core | 3,621 | 3,122 |
Multi core | 11,190 | 9,507 |
Note that benchmark scores vary device to device due to different specifications, software optimizations, and cooling systems. For the same reason, you will get higher benchmark figures on the Xiaomi 17 Pro.
AnTuTu score
The AnTuTu platform shows rather interesting results. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 gets a total AnTuTu score of over 3.87 million, which is 40% higher than the Snapdragon 8 Elite. But doesn’t the latest Snapdragon chip cross the 4 million mark? Well, the gap isn’t too big, and perhaps the Xiaomi 17 Pro would fill it with its more powerful hardware. The Realme 8 Pro does cross that mark, as recently teased by the brand.
Here’s the detailed breakdown of the AnTuTu score:
SD 8 Elite Gen 5 | SD 8 Elite | |
---|---|---|
AnTuTu score | 3,872,080 | 2,745,602 |
CPU | 1,100,475 | 578,305 |
GPU | 1,380,010 | 1,157,741 |
Memory | 533,709 | 569,580 |
UX | 857,866 | 439,975 |
3DMark score
The fifth-gen Snapdragon 8-series flagship continues to impress with its GPU performance. On the 3DMark gaming benchmark, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5-powered Realme GT 8 Pro obtains 7,640 in Wild Life Extreme and 13,397 in Solar Bay. The Snapdragon 8 Elite, on the other hand, gets 5,984 in Wild Life Extreme and 10,948 in Solar Bay testing.
In other words, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 gets about 28% higher score in the Wild Life Extreme test and 23% in Solay Bay. The chipmaker also claims a 23% GPU performance boost, and the benchmark score supports this claim.
SD 8 Elite Gen 5 | SD 8 Elite | |
---|---|---|
3DMark Wild Life Extreme | 7,640 | 5,984 |
3DMark Solar Bay | 13,397 | 10,948 |
