OnePlus has revealed a major display upgrade ahead of the OnePlus 16’s launch, which is set to take place next week in China. The company has worked with BOE to develop a new-generation screen focused on smoother visuals and improved image quality. Here’s all the information on the BOE X4 display that will be first seen on the OnePlus 16.

The fourth-generation Oriental Screen uses custom X4 luminescent material developed jointly by OnePlus and BOE. The companies have also upgraded their display manufacturing process, with every sub-pixel undergoing three rounds of calibration to improve color accuracy and image consistency. Another highlight is hardware-level brightness control down to 1 nit, which is designed to make nighttime viewing more comfortable.

Refresh rate performance is another key focus. The panel supports a system-wide 165Hz refresh rate for everyday activities, while compatible games can reach up to 185Hz. OnePlus claims that running the display at 165Hz consumes power comparable to the previous generation’s 120Hz mode. This could help deliver smoother scrolling and gameplay without a proportionate increase in energy consumption.

The new screen also integrates the company’s custom P4 display processor and Ultra-Dynamic Clarity Technology, designed to keep fast-moving content sharp. Updated eye-protection features and improved outdoor visibility are included, while the phone is expected to feature symmetrical bezels measuring just 1.15mm on all four sides. The display combines these changes with improvements to colour reproduction, brightness, and viewing comfort.

The OnePlus 16 is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. Other reported specifications include a 9,000mAh battery, 100W wired charging, and 50W wireless charging. It will feature a 50-megapixel front-facing camera, and its back panel will have a 200-megapixel (main, OIS) + 50-megapixel (ultra-wide) + 50-megapixel (3x periscope telephoto) triple camera unit.
