Vivo is expanding beyond smartphones with the Vision Discovery Edition, its first mixed reality (MR) headset. Showcased in India alongside the Vivo X Fold 6 at the Vivo NEXT event on October 6, the headset offers a glimpse into the company’s ambitions in spatial computing, entertainment, and gaming.

I got to try the Vivo Vision Discovery Edition at the event, exploring its interface, controls, virtual environments, and gaming features. Although my session was brief, the experience was positive. However, the headset is currently not available for purchase in India, with no confirmed retail price or consumer sales date.

1Design, Fit, and Physical Controls

The Vivo Vision Discovery Edition hands-on explores its design, 8K displays, eye tracking, gaming, spatial interface, and battery pack following its India showcase. features a curved front visor, a metallic frame, fabric-covered sections, and an adjustable dual-loop head strap. Despite its substantial appearance, it weighs approximately 398 grams.

Several media representatives were waiting to try the headset at the event, leaving little time for proper fitting and calibration. Nevertheless, it felt comfortable when I wore it. There was minimal light leakage around the sides, which I noticed only after Saswat Kumar Pati, Product and GTM at Vivo India, who presented the device, pointed it out.

The headset supports eye tracking and hand gestures, allowing users to look at an interface element and pinch their fingers to select it. It also has a physical control on the right side that can be rotated, alongside a button for power and other interactions. These controls complement gesture-based navigation and make interacting with the interface more intuitive.
