    Design

Both the Redmi Note 12 5G and 4G models have similar dimensions and designs. The 5G version measures 165.9 x 76.2 x 8 mm and weighs 188 grams, while the 4G model is slightly slimmer at 165.7 x 76 x 7.9 mm and lighter, weighing 183.5 grams. The design looks the same on each of these devices, but it is not exactly so. There are a few small differences if you look at the camera module: I prefer the camera module of the 5G variant because the camera elements are more minimalistic. For the rest, they do not differ so much: they have the same screen to body ratio and a punch hole placed centrally on the display, as well as fingerprint readers mounted at the side, right on the power key.

    Display

Both Redmi Note 12 5G and Redmi Note 12 4G feature a 6.67-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. They also come with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1,200 nits. There are no differences at all when it comes to the display (neither aesthetically): as already mentioned, the screen to body ratio is the same as well as the position of the punch hole and the fingerprint readers. Further, the displays of these phones are both protected by Gorilla Glass 3, while the rest of the bodies are protected by the IP53 certification making these devices dust resistant and splash resistant.

    Specs & Software

The Redmi Note 12 5G is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 octa-core processor clocked at 2 GHz, while the 4G version features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 685 octa-core processor with a faster 2.8 GHz clock speed. Although the 5G model supports faster network connectivity, the 4G variant has a higher clock frequency. But overall, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 is actually a better chipset than the Snapdragon 685. Memory configurations for the Redmi Note 12 5G include 4 GB RAM with 128 GB storage, 6 GB RAM with 128 GB storage, and 8 GB RAM with either 128 GB or 256 GB storage. The Redmi Note 12 4G offers more options, including 4 GB RAM with 64 GB storage, 4 GB RAM with 128 GB storage, 6 GB RAM with 128 GB storage, and 8 GB RAM with 128 GB storage. Additionally, these handsets come with a dedicated microSD card slot for expandable storage. Both devices run on MIUI, with the Redmi Note 12 5G featuring Android 12 and the 4G version coming with Android 13. Both smartphones offer Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth, and the same GPS module. The key difference is the network connectivity – the 5G variant supports 5G networks, while the 4G model is limited to 4G LTE networks.

    Camera

The Redmi Note 12 5G sports a dual-camera setup with a 48 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultrawide shooter, and a 2 MP depth sensor, accompanied by an 8 MP front-facing camera. In contrast, the Redmi Note 12 4G boasts a triple-camera setup with a 50 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultrawide lens, and a 2 MP depth sensor, along with a 13 MP selfie camera. The 4G model has a better camera system, offering better overall performance.

    Battery

Both the Redmi Note 12 5G and 4G models come equipped with a 5000 mAh battery and support 33W fast charging. Given their similar battery capacities and charging speeds, both devices should provide comparable battery life.

    Price

The 4G variant (4/64 GB) starts from €230 or $248 globally, while the 5G variant starts from €299 or $323 (4/128 GB). Which one would you pick?
