Xiaomi‘s Civi lineup has carved a niche for itself, offering a compelling blend of style, performance, and camera prowess targeted towards the fashion-conscious and photography enthusiasts. While the Civi 4 Pro (full review) recently debuted in China, rumors suggest its arrival in India under the moniker “Xiaomi 14 Civi.”

The Xiaomi 14 Civi is expected to carry forward a similar set of features tailored to the tastes and needs of the Indian market. Let’s delve into what we can expect from this potential flagship killer.

Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro
Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro

1. Design and Display

Based on the Civi 4 Pro, the 14 Civi is likely to boast a 6.55-inch 1.5K (2750 x 1236 pixels) C8 12-bit AMOLED display. The display is expected to feature a 120Hz refresh rate, a pixel density of 460PPI, a peak brightness of 3000nits, and a 240Hz touch sampling rate.

The display is likely to be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, offering increased scratch and shatter resistance compared to previous generations. Additionally, the display is expected to come with features like HDR10+ support, Dolby Vision, and high PWM dimming (likely 2160Hz).

2. Performance

Under the hood, Xiaomi 14 Civi is likely to feature the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor built on a 4nm process along with Adreno 735 GPU. This chipset promises blazing-fast performance, handling demanding tasks like multitasking, gaming, and video editing with ease.

In terms of memory, expect configurations with 12GB or even 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM. Storage options will likely range from 256GB to a whopping 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage, offering ample space for apps, games, photos, and videos.

3. Camera

The Xiaomi 14 Civi is likely to inherit the impressive camera setup from the Civi 4 Pro. The rear camera system boasts a Leica-powered triple-lens configuration, with a primary 50MP sensor featuring a large 1/1.55-inch OV50K Light Fusion 800 sensor and an f/1.63 aperture.

Accompanying the main sensor is a 12MP 120° ultra-wide-angle lens for capturing expansive landscapes and group shots. Additionally, a 50MP 2X telephoto lens with OIS allows for capturing zoomed-in shots without compromising on quality.

However, the true highlight might be the dual front-facing camera system. This unique setup features a pair of 32MP sensors, one with a standard 78° field of view and another with a wider 100° field of view.

4. Software and Battery Life

The Xiaomi 14 Civi is expected to run on Xiaomi’s own HyperOS user interface based on Android 14. This interface typically offers a customizable experience with additional features compared to stock Android.

The phone might pack a 4700mAh battery with 67W fast charging support, which should provide a full day’s worth of charge for most users.

5. Additional Features

Other expected features include an in-display fingerprint sensor, an infrared sensor, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, and a range of connectivity options like 5G SA/NSA, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, and NFC for contactless payments.

Meizu Returns to Smartphone Arena with Meizu 21 Note

The competition in the smartphone market is getting fiercer by the day. It’s quite challenging to survive in a market where dozens of different brands are competing with hundreds of different models, but the rewards for those who succeed are substantial. As a result, while new brands frequently enter this billion-dollar industry, sometimes others throw in the towel and drop out.

The latest to do so was Meizu, with reports suggesting the company would focus on other technological areas, such as AI. However, it seems the reality may be different. Recent information indicates that the Meizu 21 Note will be released soon. Here are the details…

Meizu 21 Note: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Massive Battery Teased

Meizu’s upcoming return to the smartphone market with a new model has generated anticipation for some time. Leaks have indeed hinted at a phone with the model number M468Q, initially believed to be the Meizu 21X. However, recent information suggests the upcoming phone will actually be called the Meizu 21 Note.

This price-performance-focused flagship will utilize Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. While a slightly older SoC, the 8 Gen 2 remains a highly capable and powerful chip. The Meizu 21 Note will also boast a substantial 5500mAh battery with 66W fast charging capabilities.

Unfortunately, that’s all we know about the technical specifications of the Meizu 21 Note for now. There are no official statements about the phone, which is set to come with two model numbers, “M468Q” and “M468H.” However, a phone with similar characteristics that recently appeared in a 3C certification suggests that this launch might be closer than we think.

Samsung Galaxy Ring model numbers surface

Samsung-Galaxy-Ring-MWC-2024

Samsung has already confirmed that the Galaxy Ring will be offered in nine different sizes and three colour options. The latest report reveals the model numbers of the SKUs. These include SM-Q500, SM-Q501, SM-Q502, SM-Q505, SM-Q506, SM-Q507, SM-Q508, and SM-Q509. The list makes a total of eight models which means that the ninth option is missing. Although this feels like a mystery, we assume that there would not be much difference between the eight listed models and the ninth option apart from the size and maybe battery. The SM-Q500 could be the smallest model weighing 2.3 grams and the SM-Q509 being the largest tiping the scales at 2.9 grams.

As per a report last month, Samsung has reportedly set an ambitious initial production target of 400,000 units. The mass production is set to commence next month. The smart ring is slated to debut at an Unpacked event in July or August. The Galaxy Ring is confirmed to offer a battery life of up to 9 days and will be compatible with other Android devices but not iOS.

You can do a lot with Modes and Routines to automate things on your Galaxy device.

Multi-window or split screen is an excellent productivity feature for using multiple apps on a single screen. For example, you can play a YouTube video on one side of the screen and take notes on the other. Also, you can watch a movie on one side and chat with your friends on the other.

To enable this feature, go to Settings > Advanced feature > Multi window and toggle on Swipe for split screen. Enable Full screen in Split screen view to hide the status bar in the split screen mode.

Now, launch one of the split screen apps and swipe up from the bottom of the screen with two fingers. Now, choose the second app for the split screen.

19. One-Handed Mode

Samsung Galaxy smartphones are getting bigger and bigger. While this is great for content consumption and many other tasks, sometimes we find it hard to operate with one hand. It becomes more difficult for people with small hands. One-handed mode is there to help by reducing the screen size. It even reduces the keyboard size for a compatible one-handed typing experience.

To enable this feature, go to Settings > Advanced features and enable One-handed mode. Now, tap on One-handed mode (the text part) and choose the Gesture or Button activation method.

The Gesture method requires users to swipe down from the Home button, while the Button method requires tapping the Home button two times in quick succession.

Airtel simplifies international roaming with affordable packs starting at Rs. 133/day

In a move to cater to the growing demand for international travel, Airtel, a leading Indian telecom provider, has announced a revamped international roaming offering. The new plans prioritize affordability and convenience, aiming to eliminate the hassle of managing multiple packs for various destinations.

Airtel International Roaming Pack

One Pack for Global Connectivity

Airtel’s revamped international roaming packs address a key pain point for frequent travelers. Customers can now choose a single plan based on travel duration, offering seamless connectivity across 184 countries. This eliminates the need to subscribe to separate packs for different destinations, simplifying the pre-travel process.

The new packs start at a competitive price point of Rs. 133 ($1.60) per day (based on Rs. 3,999 plan), making them a potentially more affordable option compared to purchasing local SIM cards in certain countries. This can be particularly beneficial for short trips or for those who don’t anticipate high data usage.

According to the company’s official “Thanks App,” plans start at Rs. 649 ($7.78) for a single day of travel, offering 500MB data and 100 minutes of free outgoing and incoming calls. Higher tiers offer increased data allowances, voice call minutes, and even in-flight benefits.

Airtel’s new packs include additional features like in-flight connectivity, auto-activation on landing, and 24×7 contact center support for a smoother travel experience.

Airtel also introduces an optional auto-renewal feature for frequent travelers through the “thanks app.” This feature automatically renews the international roaming pack upon its expiry, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity during subsequent trips abroad.

Airtel’s Director of Customer Experience and Marketing, Amit Tripathi, highlighted the company’s commitment to solving customer problems and providing greater convenience. He stated that the new packs offer “greater value with enhanced benefits that are economical when compared to local in-country sims across many countries.”

Apple needs to release a budget iPhone to grow its sales

Apple has long been pleased with iPhone sales in China, and the Asian market, which has been quite beneficial for Apple’s growth, is now failing to meet Apple’s expectations due to the recent success of Chinese smartphone manufacturers and the regulations imposed by the Chinese government.

According to IDC, a research firm, despite a 8% increase in global smartphone sales in the first quarter of the year, iPhone sales saw a 10% decline. The ban imposed by China against foreign brands also contributed to the decline in Apple’s sales.

According to Bloomberg, the problem behind Apple’s declining sales is actually Apple devices themselves, as existing users do not want to use a new device and Apple needs more people to join the Apple ecosystem. In short, Apple is not providing consumers with enough incentives to upgrade to new devices.

People need a “better iPhone SE”

Apple’s iPhone lineup receives minor improvements every year, leading many users to believe that upgrading is not just worth it. Apple’s solution to this should be introducing new product lineups. Apple recently introduced the Vision Pro, but due to its high price and the very long time it will take for people to adapt, it doesn’t seem to significantly increase Apple’s revenue in the short term.

The best thing Apple can do right now is to introduce a budget iPhone. Although Apple managed to introduce phones at half the price of standard and Pro iPhones with the iPhone SE models, the design of the phone was quite outdated. While other phone manufacturers introduced powerful cameras and large screens in the $400 price range, Apple chose to offer a single camera module with the iPhone SE.

So, Apple might be a bit behind its competition in AI right now, but they’re working on on-device large language model that’ll live right on your iPhone. No need to send your data to the cloud because it’s all going down on your device, so this will be better for Apple to maintain privacy.
