Which Mac Should You Use?

Apple makes a lot of computers, and all of them look similar enough that it’s easy to stare at the lineup and feel stuck. If you’re confused about which Mac to buy in 2025, you’re not alone. The good news is there’s a simple way to figure it out.

Apple’s recent focus on its own processors (the M-series chips) has made every Mac fast, quiet, and battery-friendly. But they’re not all meant for the same people. The Mac you should buy depends on what you do, how long you’ll keep it, and whether you’re buying for portability, power, or price.

Here’s a straightforward breakdown to help you decide.

1. MacBook Air (M4)

For most people, the MacBook Air is easily the best pick. It’s light, simple, fast, silent (no fans), and cheaper than the Pro lineup. Apple calls it the world’s best consumer laptop, and that’s not a stretch.

The most recent MacBook Air comes with an M4 chip and in 13 and 15-inch display options. Both are Liquid Retina (LCD) panels with True Tone support and 500 nits of brightness. It’s also the first MacBook Air to come with an optional Nano-texture coating that reduces glare.

If you don’t know which Mac to get, start here. It’s the best choice for students, writers, office workers, casual photo editors, and anyone who wants a dependable laptop that feels effortless to use.

MacBook Air (M3)

If your budget is tight, you can still get the Air with the last-gen M3 chip. And honestly, the difference between the M3 and M4 isn’t that massive. You can do almost everything that M4 handles with the M3 Air. If you’re coming from a pre-M-series machine, this will feel like a massive upgrade.

2. MacBook Pro

The MacBook Pro lineup is where Apple puts its most powerful chips, best screens, and longest battery life. It’s also much more expensive. You should only buy one if you know you need the performance.

14-inch MacBook Pro (M4 Pro)

If you do serious creative work—video editing, music production, software development—the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M4 Pro is the sweet spot. It has a stunning mini-LED display, more ports, and better speakers than the Air.

The M4 Pro chip handles 4K video, large code builds, and heavy tools with ease. If you need serious performance but still care about portability, this is the Mac.

16-inch MacBook Pro (M4 Max)

The 16-inch model is all about space and maximum power. The M4 Max chip is designed for heavy workflows—Hollywood-level post-production, advanced 3D modeling, AI development, and high-resolution rendering.

It’s big. It’s expensive. But if you need it, you’ll know.

3. iMac

The 24-inch iMac with M3 is Apple’s all-in-one favorite. It’s a single unit: just plug in and go. The display is beautiful. The colors are fun. And for most office or home users, the M3 chip is plenty.

If you’re upgrading an old Intel iMac, this will feel like switching from a horse to a Tesla.

Its downside is that you can upgrade the display or internal components later. What you buy on day one is what you keep. So if you can, upgrade to at least 16GB of RAM.

4. Mac Mini

The Mac Mini is still the cheapest way into the Mac ecosystem. Pair it with your own monitor and accessories, and you’ll get the same performance as a MacBook Air at a much lower price. 

The Mac Mini is powered by the M4 and M4 Pro chip. The former is available with up to 24GB unified memory and 512GB storage, while the M4 Pro models support up to 64GB of unified memory and offer storage options up to 8TB.

The front of each Mac mini model includes two USB-C ports and a headphone jack. On the back, you get three Thunderbolt ports (Thunderbolt 4 on the M4 version and Thunderbolt 5 on the M4 Pro version) along with HDMI, one Gigabit Ethernet port, and a power-in port. 

5. Mac Studio

The Mac Studio is essentially a bigger and better version of the Mac Mini, designed for people who want workstation power in a compact footprint. It is taller, with more ports —including a front-facing USB-C port —and built with more advanced processors and better thermal management to handle demanding tasks like video editing.

Even the entry-level Mac Studio with the M4 Max chip offers up to a 16-core CPU, a 40-core GPU, a 16-core Neural Engine, a Media Engine, 546GB/s memory bandwidth, and up to 128GB of unified memory.

Meanwhile, the M3 Ultra Mac Studio features up to a 32-core CPU and an 80-core GPU, along with a 32-core Neural Engine, 819GB/s memory bandwidth, up to 512GB of unified memory, and a Media Engine that is twice as fast.

It may be difficult to understand all the technical jargon, but these specs simply mean the Mac Studio can handle almost any workload you throw at it. For the best performance, it’s better to get the M3 Ultra model.

Apple says the M3 Ultra is almost twice as fast as the M4 Max when handling system-intensive workloads, and it supports playback of up to 24 streams of 8K ProRes video and up to eight displays.

6. How Much RAM Should You Get?

Short version:

  • 8GB: Bare minimum (better to avoid if possible)
  • 16GB: Safe choice for most
  • 32GB: Pros using creative apps
  • >64GB: Only for heavy pro workflows

Rule of thumb:
If you keep your Mac for 4–6 years, bump the RAM now. You can’t upgrade later.

7. How Much Storage Do You Need?

  • 256GB: Too small for most people
  • 512GB: Minimum recommended
  • 1TB: Best for long-term users
  • 2TB+: Only if you need project storage locally

Cloud storage helps, but apps and libraries grow fast.

8. So Which Mac Should You Get?

  • Write, browse, watch, email → MacBook Air
  • Want a big screen without power needs → 15-inch Air

Most people will be happy with the MacBook Air. It’s light, fast, and cheaper than the Pros. Apple’s M-series chips mean even the “slow” Macs are powerful. You don’t need the biggest chip unless your job depends on it.

SanDisk has launched a new USB-C flash drive that it claims is the world’s smallest 1TB model. The new SanDisk Extreme Fit USB-C Flash Drive is now available in select markets and is priced at $119.99 for the 1TB version.

The flash drive features a plug-and-stay design and targets users looking to expand storage on devices like the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and USB-C iPad models.

It measures 18.50 x 15.70 x 13.60 mm and weighs just 3 grams, allowing it to stay connected to a laptop or tablet without protruding significantly or interfering with portability. SanDisk says the drive fits snugly into the USB-C port and can remain attached even while moving or carrying the device in a bag.

The drive supports the USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface and offers read speeds of up to 400MB/s on capacities from 128GB to 1TB. These speeds allow quick file transfers for photos, videos, and documents, although SanDisk notes that the device does not support high-bitrate video capture, such as 4K 120fps ProRes recording on iPhones. The drive is compatible with Windows 10 and above, macOS 12 and later, and iPadOS 15 and up.

AOC has unveiled the AGON Pro Q27G20SM, a new premium gaming monitor on its official Chinese website. The company has not yet revealed its pricing or release schedule.

Galaxy S26 series could be more expensive than its predecessors

Anticipation around the Galaxy S26 series is rapidly building. The company is expected to unveil the lineup in February at an event in San Francisco, but early excitement is now mixed with growing concerns over something consumers rarely welcome: higher prices.

According to a new report from South Korea, a price increase for the Galaxy S26 series may be “inevitable”. While Samsung managed to maintain the base prices of all three Galaxy S25 models across most markets, the economic conditions surrounding smartphone component manufacturing have shifted considerably over the past year.

Chipset prices are up 12% compared to last year’s average, while camera modules—another major contributor to flagship phone cost—have increased by 8%. More notably, mobile DRAM prices have surged 16% just since the first quarter of this year.

And the situation is poised to become even more challenging. A memory shortage is expected in the coming months as manufacturers divert production capacity toward high-bandwidth memory (HBM) used in AI chips. With supply tightening and demand for advanced components rising, the financial pressure on smartphone makers is only intensifying.

Samsung is not the only company feeling the strain. Apple raised prices for its latest iPhone 17 series, and further increases are reportedly on the way. The recently launched Redmi K90 is also priced CNY 100 (~$14) higher than its predecessor.

This backdrop may also explain Samsung’s decision to prioritize development of the Exynos 2600, aiming to reduce reliance on Qualcomm’s increasingly expensive Snapdragon chips. Using its own silicon could help Samsung control costs.

As for the size of the increase, industry patterns suggest a likely rise of $50 to $100, consistent with past adjustments. For now, fans will have to wait for Samsung’s official announcement of the S26 series.

OnePlus 13R Gets OxygenOS 16 Update with Trinity Engine and AI Enhancements

OnePlus has started rolling out OxygenOS 16 globally, beginning today in India for the OnePlus 13R (build version CPH2691_16.0.0.205(EX01)). The rollout will expand to more regions in batches over the coming weeks. The update focuses on smoother animations, better performance, new AI tools, and visual improvements across the system.

Charging and fingerprint animations have been refined with light wave patterns, while scrolling and app transitions feel faster and more responsive.

The updated Trinity Engine manages performance and power more efficiently. It optimizes resources during gaming, video playback, and camera use. Gaming is now more stable, and multitasking is handled better through smart task scheduling. Photo albums load faster and consume less power, and cached videos and thumbnails open quicker. Power saving mode now adjusts performance in tiers based on battery level for better endurance.

AI features have been expanded under “OnePlus AI.” Mind Space adds a Mind Assistant that can search saved content. Photos get a new layout with clearer categories and easier navigation. Users can edit videos by trimming, merging, adjusting playback speed, or adding transitions and background music. Notes now support block editing, text highlighting, link sharing, and improved formatting options. The Recorder app has a cleaner interface, AI noise reduction, and automatic templates for meetings or lectures. AI Writer helps create content for social media posts, notes, or summaries, while AI VoiceScribe can generate context-based call summaries.

The visual interface introduces a new Flux Home screen with light field effects, dynamic wallpapers, and a redesigned layout. The new One Serif font and Aurora visual effects improve readability and system depth.

OxygenOS 16 also adds better cross-device features with O+ Connect, allowing searches across phone and PC, improved in-car Bluetooth pairing, and My Devices in Quick Settings for managing linked devices. Other updates include AI-powered Doc Scanner, customizable Quick Settings, better Wi-Fi stability, and improved privacy options. Leak hints at Xperia 1 VIII and another Xperia model in development

A new leak suggests two Xperia devices are now in development. Qualcomm has already confirmed that Sony will be one of the launch partners for its latest flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

In recent weeks, rumors have centered on the Xperia 1 VIII, the presumed successor to this year’s Xperia 1 VII. Earlier evidence showed Sony registering multiple model numbers believed to correspond to the upcoming flagship. Now, The Walkman Blog has uncovered a separate set of model IDs pointing to a second unreleased Xperia smartphone, shifting speculation away from a possible revival of the Xperia 5 series.

Sony’s mobile division has been in a state of uncertainty, yet it expanded its lineup earlier with the Xperia 1 VII and Xperia 10 VII. The flagship 1 VII runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite platform, while the 10 VII uses the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, a mid-range chipset. With the new model numbers PM-152xx understood to correspond to the Xperia 1 VIII, the six additional codes—PM-1530-BV, PM-1531-BV, PM-1532-BV, PM-1533-BV, PM-1534-BV, and PM-1555-BV—are believed to represent regional variants of a new mid-range entry.

This device is most likely the Xperia 10 VIII, rather than a new Xperia 5. Sony discontinued the Xperia 5 line after its fifth-generation release due to declining demand, making a comeback unlikely. Instead, it appears Sony will maintain a simplified two-tier strategy: a high-end Xperia 1 and a mid-range Xperia 10.

This also means the Xperia 1 VIII will likely be Sony’s only smartphone powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. Qualcomm has already confirmed that Sony will be deploying the chip soon, cementing the flagship’s place in Sony’s 2025 portfolio.

Moto g57 and g57 Power go official with 120Hz display, Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 chip & up to 7000mAh battery

Motorola has launched the moto g57 and moto g57 Power, two new mid-range 5G smartphones in its g series lineup. These are the first phones powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 Mobile Platform.

Both phones feature a 6.72-inch Full HD+ LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1050 nits peak brightness, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. The display has a punch-hole cutout for the 8MP front camera. On the back, both models have a 50MP main camera with a Sony LYT-600 sensor (1/1.95″) and f/1.8 aperture, along with an 8MP ultra-wide lens with f/2.2 aperture.

The phones run Android 16 and come with 8GB LPDDR4x RAM and 256GB UFS 2.2 internal storage. They support Dual SIM (1 Nano SIM + 1 eSIM) and include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. Connectivity options include 5G, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS + GLONASS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. There is also a 3.5mm audio jack, stereo speakers, and Dolby Atmos sound.

Both models are IP64 rated for dust and splash resistance and come with MIL-STD 810H certification for added durability.

The moto g57 is available in PANTONE Regatta, PANTONE Pink Lemonade, PANTONE Corsair, and PANTONE Fluidity colors. It is priced at €249 (USD 285) and is now on sale in the Middle East.

In other news, Motorola has also launched the the Edge 70 globally, rebranded from the Moto X70 Air. It features a 6.67-inch Super HD pOLED display (2712×1220) with 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, 10-bit color depth, and up to 4500 nits brightness, protected by Gorilla Glass 7i. Powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset, it has a triple rear camera setup with a 50MP main sensor (OIS), a 50MP ultra-wide with macro support, and a 3-in-1 light sensor, while the front houses a 50MP selfie camera with 4K recording and AI-powered features.

Xiaomi launched a minimalist smart hub that’s packed with automation features

Xiaomi has introduced a new product under its smart home ecosystem, the Xiaomi Smart Control Screen (Standard Edition). The device is priced at 399 yuan ($56), with a crowdfunding price of 369 yuan ($52). Crowdfunding will begin on Xiaomi Youpin on November 10 in China.

The Smart Control Screen is designed to serve as a central hub for home automation. It features a vertically oriented 8:16 full-screen display and supports both white and dark gray finishes. The panel fits standard 86 mm wall boxes without requiring modification.

Xiaomi has built the screen using V-0 grade flame-retardant materials and included safety features like over-temperature and overload protection. It also includes three built-in relay channels that allow direct control of up to three lighting circuits through touch.

The device runs on HyperOS with a built-in large-model AI engine. Xiaomi has equipped the screen with its Mesh 2.0 gateway for improved connectivity with Bluetooth and Mesh-enabled smart home devices. It supports dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz) and is compatible with more than 5,500 smart home devices. It includes 45 screen saver styles with options such as animated weather, photo albums, and text tags. A new Honor smartphone bearing the model number MEY-AN00 has appeared on Geekbench, and the details that have surfaced through it suggest that it could be the upcoming Honor 500 Pro. The device was previously spotted on the 3C certification platform, hinting at fast charging capabilities. Its Geekbench entry reveals the chipset powering the phone, effectively ending earlier rumors that it would feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

The Geekbench listing shows that the Honor MEY-AN00 phone is equipped with the Qualcomm SM8735 chip with four clusters, including a prime core clocked at 3.21GHz, along with Adreno 825 GPU. These details confirm that the device is powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 rather than the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Since Honor is known for using the Snapdragon 8-series chip for the Pro model, the MEY-AN00 appears to be the Honor 500 Pro.

The listing further reveals 16GB RAM and Android 16 out of the box. In performance tests, the device records 2113 in single-core and 6539 in multi-core scores on Geekbench 6.3.

According to recent reports, the Honor 500 Pro is expected to feature a 6.5-inch flat OLED display with a 1.5K resolution, along with a refreshed design featuring a horizontal camera bar on the back.

The camera module will include a 200-megapixel main camera with OIS, an ultra-wide lens, and a 64-megapixel OmniVision OV64B periscope telephoto lens for enhanced zoom. It may arrive with a substantial battery with 100W charging support.

The standard Honor 500, which is said to have the MEP-AN00 model number, is rumored to include the same display, a 200-megapixel dual-camera setup, 100W charging, and a Snapdragon 7-series chipset, which could be the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4.

Both models are expected to launch in China later this month. There is no confirmation yet on whether the Honor 500 series will be released in global markets.

Motorola has officially launched the Edge 70 for global markets, following its debut in China as the Moto X70 Air. Let’s check out its key specs and pricing.

It also offers a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 300Hz touch sampling, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i.

The device is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 SoC built on a 4nm process, paired with the Adreno 722 GPU. It ships with 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of storage. The Edge 70 runs on Android 16 out of the box and is guaranteed to receive security updates for over five years, until June 2031.

Sharp has announced its new AQUOS Sense 10 smartphone, a follow-up to last year’s AQUOS Sense 9. The phone will go on sale in Japan on November 13, followed by launches in Taiwan, Indonesia, and Singapore.

The AQUOS Sense 10 runs on the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor, which delivers about 20% better CPU performance, 40% stronger GPU output, and 30% faster AI processing compared to the previous Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. It features a 6.1-inch Pro IGZO OLED display with FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, a variable refresh rate of up to 240Hz, and a peak brightness of 1500 nits.

Powering the device is a 5000mAh battery, which Sharp claims can last up to two days with ten hours of daily use on a full charge. It runs Android 16 and comes in two configurations: 6GB RAM with 128GB storage, and 8GB RAM with 256GB storage.

On the back, the phone has a 50.3MP standard and wide-angle camera. The front camera is a 32MP sensor for selfies and video calls. Sharp has added new AI features that help improve image quality and voice clarity during calls.

The 6GB/128GB variant is priced at 62,700 yen, while the 8GB/256GB version costs 69,300 yen. Orders will open on November 10, and shipping will begin on November 13.

The Chinese tech giant is finally releasing the HyperOS 3 update, arriving on various models already. Following up on the major update that upgrades the Android iteration, Xiaomi is getting ready to release the HyperOS 3.1 update as well. The beta program recruitment for HyperOS 3.1 is already live in the brand’s home market of China. However, HyperOS 3.1 will be limited to smartphones that receive the Android 16 update.

Unfortunately, devices that get the Android 15 version of the HyperOS 3 custom skin will be missing out on the HyperOS 3.1 update.

Huawei Mate 70 Air pre-orders to begin tomorrow; Leak reveals 6.6mm, 208g body, and more

Recent reports have revealed that Huawei is gearing up to launch an ultra-thin phone called the Huawei Mate 70 Air in China. According to a tech blogger, the company will begin its pre-orders tomorrow (Nov. 6) and make it available for purchase starting Nov. 11. At the same time, a new Weibo post has revealed several details about the said device.

According to the tipster, the Huawei Mate 70 Air has a 6.9-inch display with a single punch-hole and an 18.8:9 aspect ratio. Previous reports have revealed that it features a quad-curved screen, offering a highly immersive viewing experience for multimedia and gaming.

The ultra-thin device measures only 6.6mm and is a bit hefty, weighing around 208 grams. This is because it packs a 6,000mAh+ battery, but a previous leak revealed that it houses a 6,500mAh battery. Speaking of the battery, the device will have support for 66W fast charging, ensuring quick power refills even for heavy users.

As per previous reports, the Mate 70 Air is expected to ship with Harmony OS 5.1 and soon be treated with the latest Harmony OS 6.0 upgrade. It is expected to arrive in two configurations, such as 12GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB, but a recent leak claimed that it may also come in a 16GB RAM option for power users.

The Huawei Mate 70 Air’s processor is still under wraps. There is some uncertainty about whether the device is a 5G or 4G LTE model. The Mate 70 Air is expected to arrive in shades like Golden Black, Feather White, and Silver Brocade. However, there is no information about the device’s price yet.

In related news, Huawei is expected to announce the next-generation Mate 80 series of flagship phones later this month in China. Likely, the brand may unveil the Mate X7 foldable phone alongside it, expanding its premium device lineup for 2025.
