Xiaomi launches its first smart variable pressure IH rice cooker with 4L capacity

Xiaomi has announced its first smart variable-pressure IH (Induction Heating) rice cooker under the Mijia brand. The device features a 4-liter capacity and is priced at 1999 yuan ($280). It is designed for families of four to five members and supports advanced pressure modulation and smart cooking controls.

Xiaomi Mijia IH Rice Cooker

Xiaomi Mijia IH Rice Cooker Specifications

The rice cooker introduces a three-stage variable pressure system that allows users to choose between 1.0x, 1.2x, and 2.0x pressure levels. This design lets the appliance adjust internal conditions to suit different rice types and cooking preferences. It supports soft, firm, sticky, or chewy textures through automated pressure and temperature tuning.

Xiaomi claims that its patented long-boil technology enhances the flavor, texture, and aroma of rice. The cooker can sustain high-temperature boiling for up to 39 minutes, which helps with starch gelatinization. The company states that this method improves fluffiness by 22%, aroma by 52%, and sweetness by 58% when compared to older models.

Xiaomi Mijia IH Rice Cooker

The rice cooker uses an IH spherical heating system with 1390W power output. It includes a 14-meter long heating coil that enables 360-degree uniform heat distribution. Xiaomi has added a triple-zone heating design, including heating rings in the lid, around the waist, and at the base. The device can keep rice warm for up to eight hours and offers a quick-cook mode that finishes in 14 minutes, about 50% faster than conventional options.

The cooking pot is made from 3mm-thick titanium with a fluoride-free coating. It features a five-layer composite structure using food-grade 304 stainless steel and aluminum for safe heat conduction and durability. Xiaomi says the pot does not leach heavy metals and meets long-term safety standards.

The cooker features a large color touchscreen, Mi Home app integration, and XiaoAi voice assistant support. Meals can be scheduled, progress tracked in real time, and custom recipes shared through the app. The lid uses an electronic locking mechanism powered by a motor, and multiple Hall sensors detect proper lid placement.

Xiaomi Mijia IH Rice Cooker

Xiaomi equips the cooker with 16 safety protections. These include overpressure release valves, temperature limiters, anti-block filters, and lid detection mechanisms. The product also includes a stainless steel steamer basket, removable components for cleaning, and a high-temperature steam-cleaning mode to eliminate odor and residue.

In related news, Xiaomi has recently launched a mini inflator with 150psi capacity and smart pressure modes, and also introduced a toothbrush with a built-in screen that runs for 180 days on a single charge.

Meet the World’s Smallest 10,000mAh 45W Power Bank: INUI Pocket Pro 10K

Power banks are one of the handiest smartphone accessories, but they are often bulky and unwieldy. With the average 10,000mAh power bank often weighing over 200 grams, it is like carrying another hefty smartphone. Large capacities also take up space, and some models can be quite large. However, the INUI’s latest announcement brings the world’s smallest 10,000mAh power bank.

INUI Pocket Pro 10K Unveiled

INUI just unveiled the Pocket Pro 10K, which is touted as the smallest 10,000mAh power bank that also provides 45W fast charging. The company is innovating the design of the iconic tech accessory, making it a lot more practical than the typical offering. This product arrives with a collaboration with TM:RW, which is a retail brand with innovation at its center.

So, the Pocket Pro 10K is making its debut in a bustling store in New York’s Times Square. What sets INUI’s new power bank apart is its impressively compact design with 3.3×2.0×1.0 inches dimensions. It is also surprisingly lightweight with a 160 gram body. In other words, it is even lighter than Samsung’s thinnest flagship phone, the Galaxy S25 Edge. The INUI Pocket Pro 10K is capable of charging up to 3 devices simultaneously.

Thanks to its 45W fast charging support, a single smartphone can be charged to 73 percent in just 25 minutes. INUI managed to achieve this tiny form factor by using an upgraded design on the battery, which is dubbed the TinyCell Pro. This technology reduces the size of the battery without compromising battery capacity. For protection, it gets the 18 layer SmartProtect system that protects against overcharging, overheating, and short circuiting. Buyers also get a built-in detachable cable that supports Samsung Super Fast Charging 2.0.

HyperOS 3 global launch is happening this month

Xiaomi HyperOS 3 global release

HyperOS 3 is a major upgrade for Xiaomi devices that brings a host of exciting features, plenty of under-the-hood improvements, and security enhancements. It’s smoother, feature-rich, and more secure. The brand recently unveiled HyperOS 3 in China, and now it appears the global release is also around the corner.

In a recent post on X, Xiaomi announced that the Xiaomi 15T series will launch on September 24th. The more exciting part is that Xiaomi’s HyperOS official account on X quoted the post with a message, “Big surprises incoming… Don’t miss it: Sept 24th!” While there was no mention of HyperOS 3, it is pretty clear that the company is referring to its global release, which will happen alongside the Xiaomi 15T series later this month.

Xiaomi HyperOS 3 global release date official announcement

So, the Xiaomi 15T series will come with Android 16-based HyperOS 3 right out of the box. At the event, the company will also showcase major features and improvements of the new software and announce the beta rollout schedule. The Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 14T Pro are likely to be the first phones to receive early access to HyperOS 3.

In China, Xiaomi began rolling out beta updates shortly after the launch event. We can expect the same with the global release. If you want to test HyperOS 3 beta on your Xiaomi device, remember to apply as soon as the beta program becomes available in your region. Here’s our step-by-step guide on becoming a HyperOS beta tester.

Since HyperOS 3 has already been released in China, we already know what it has to offer. So, let’s take a look at the major changes while we wait for the global release.

What to expect from HyperOS 3?

HyperOS 3 upgrades

Xiaomi has made numerous under-the-hood changes to HyperOS 3, which make it 10% more energy efficient and 4% lighter in terms of CPU load. The brand also claims a 21% faster app launch and 10% power reduction for video playback.

Gamers also benefit from this upgrade as it promises 15% improved frame rates and a 9% reduction in touch response latency. Xiaomi has optimized over 100 system animations, offering a more fluid and responsive software experience.

HyperOS 3 isn’t all about under-the-hood changes. There are visual upgrades as well, including a Xiaomi Super Island, which works similarly to Apple’s Dynamic Island, but with its own set of unique features and capabilities, including support for up to three islands, small window multitasking, and the ability to drag and drop content from Super Island to supported apps.

There are new icons with more vivid color palettes, round corners, and a polished look. The status bar has also been redesigned, featuring new icons and smoother animations. HyperOS 3 also brings a glimpse of a liquid glass design to the launcher’s search bar and settings menu, giving them a premium look. The new Gallery app supports auto-sorting albums, pet face recognition, and photo organization.

HyperOS 3 design

Customizing the lock screen becomes easier and more enjoyable with new options, including AI-generated dynamic wallpapers, various clock styles, fresh wallpapers, and new fonts. HyperOS 3 also offers a centralized lock screen editing interface, making it easier than ever to personalize your lock screen.

HyperOS 3 dynamic wallpaper

Xiaomi has also made an effort to bridge ecosystem gaps, as HyperOS 3 allows Apple users to run Android apps seamlessly on macOS (up to three mobile app windows), unlock their Xiaomi phones using Touch ID, share files, and sync notifications. Privacy and security also improve with two-factor authentication login, enhanced data protection, and better control over app permissions. HyperOS 3 users will also be able to locate their lost devices even if they are powered off.

HyperOS 3 improved interconnectivity

We’ll continue to track HyperOS developments and publish them in our HyperOS section. So, don’t forget to visit that regularly for the latest updates. You can also join our Telegram channel for all the latest happenings in tech.

Semi-solid-state batteries toward production: could boost range and safety for EVs

BASF and Chinese battery maker Welion say they’ve reached a key step in bringing semi-solid-state batteries to market. BASF Shanshan Battery Materials (BSBM), the company’s joint venture in China, has shipped its first batch of cathode active materials (CAM) for these batteries to Welion.

The project began in August 2024 and hit this milestone in just a year, according to Batteries News. The new CAM uses ultra-high nickel and a composite coating to address one of the toughest problems in solid-state development: the unstable interface between cathodes and solid electrolytes. Fixing that issue improves energy density, reduces resistance, and extends cycle life.

Welion plans to use the material in its next generation of semi-solid-state packs aimed at electric vehicles, large-scale storage, and smaller devices like drones. Semi-solid batteries are seen as a bridge between today’s lithium-ion cells and full solid-state designs. They promise better safety and durability than conventional batteries while being easier to scale than true solid-state.

“This is a milestone for our battery materials business,” said Desmond Long, CEO of BSBM. Welion’s general manager, Dr. Jin Xiang, added that BASF’s materials provide a strong base for further cooperation.

The battery industry is racing to find alternatives that boost range and safety for EVs. Full solid-state remains years away, but semi-solid options are getting closer to production. BASF and Welion’s progress shows the technology is moving out of the lab and into industrial supply chains — an encouraging sign for the next generation of energy storage.

Molecular breakthrough could lead to ultra-dense data storage

Ever run out of storage on your phone or wished your laptop had more space without paying extra for a higher-capacity model? A new materials breakthrough suggests that future devices could hold far more data than today’s NAND flash storage allow — all in the same space.

A research group led by Professor Yoichi Murakami at the Institute of Science Tokyo, has developed a covalent organic framework (COF) structure that uses tiny “molecular rotors” to store information. Their findings were published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society and highlighted by Notebookcheck.

Unlike today’s semiconductor-based memory, this COF crystal is designed with ultra-low density, giving the molecular rotors enough space to spin and hold orientation. Each rotor acts like a switchable bit, potentially serving as the building block for non-volatile memory such as ROM.

To be useful, these rotors had to meet four conditions: respond to an electric field, keep their position stable at room temperature, rotate without interference, and withstand high temperatures.

According to the researchers, the material checks all four boxes. The rotors remain stable at everyday conditions, can endure up to 150°C, and the overall framework doesn’t break down until close to 400°C. Data orientation can also be switched reliably under strong electric fields or when heated above 200°C.

This is the first time such performance has been achieved with a COF material, addressing a long-standing obstacle in molecular memory research. While practical storage devices based on the technology are still some years away, the approach could eventually allow far denser storage than is possible today.

If developed further, molecular rotor memory could make it possible to fit vastly more data into smaller chips—potentially impacting everything from smartphones and wearables to IoT devices.
