Redmi Smart TV X series will feature new MEMC technology for a better visual experience

Earlier today (22nd May 2020), Lu Weibing, the Vice President of Xiaomi Group and Redmi General Manager, announced a bunch of upcoming products. One of the new launches will be for the Redmi Smart TV X series, which will feature new technologies like MEMC and a new smart 60Hz intelligent compensation algorithm.

Redmi

For those unaware, MEMC technology is basically a new method through which companies artificially create additional frames for movies and videos. In other words, the movies which are captured at 21 or 30fps are converted to 60 or even 120fps videos. This helps in making the cinematic experience a lot smoother and more visually appealing.

Recently, various smart TV vendors have been adopting the technology through smart algorithms, similar to what the Redmi Smart TV X will offer. The new series will arrive in three different variants, including X65, X55, and X50. These TVs will offer top notch picture quality, premium design, and sound system as well, according to Lu Weibing.

Redmi 7

Similar to the upcoming RedmiBook with AMD processors, the Redmi Smart TV X series will be announced on the 26th of May 2020. This is the same date as the Redmi 10X launch. So stay tuned, as we will be covering the launch event and the various products being unveiled.

OnePlus publishes Game Space on Google Play Store

Android is the largest fragmented operating system in the world. This made the smartphone makers publish some of their system apps on Google Play Store a few years ago. This way, they can push new features to their devices faster without relying on system updates. OnePlus is one such manufacturer having most of its system apps on the Play Store. Now, the brand’s Game Space also makes its way there with the latest update.

Almost all Android OEMs bundle a game mode on their software skin. The one by OnePlus in OxygenOS is called Game Space. It comes pre-installed on OnePlus smartphones as a system app.

All the installed games on the device show up in Game Space. It offers optimizations for gameplay such as notifications and auto-brightness settings, display options, Fnatic Mode, and more.

Now, with the latest version of the app, OnePlus has published it to the Google Play Store like its other system apps. Also, the new update brings two new notable features namely Instant Games and Game Statistics.

Enabling Instant Games in Game Space will let users play Google Play Instant Games without installing the actual game on their smartphones. All this within the Game Space app itself and thus users don’t need to hunt for instant games on the Play Store.

The second new addition is Game Statistics, which as the name says will provide information such as most played games and battery usage along with a graph as well as a pie chart.

Having said that, OnePlus users will be now able to update Game Space on their smartphones directly from the Google Play Store without waiting for system OTA to bring new features.

Xiaomi patent reveals an unique foldable phone with a rotating camera

A Xiaomi patent has caught our eyes again, with this one showcasing an unique smartphone design. The patent images depict a foldable smartphone with a quad camera system that rotates forward for selfies and to the back for regular photography.

Xiaomi

Xiaomi had filed the design patent for an inward bending phone in its home country of China. In the patent, the Chinese tech giant also put 48 images the showcase the handset. Similar to the Motorola Razr 2019, the device folds inwards like the flip phones, which were popular a decade ago. However, the inside mostly comprises of a display with narrow bezels on every side except the top.

On top of the display, one can observe a noticeably large camera module. A quad camera setup is housed horizontally in this region, right above the receiver for calls. This quad camera module is also capable of rotating or twisting to face the other side. Notably, the image sensors are slightly raised over the body and the device folds from the middle of the display and not the overall length, allowing the camera system to go over the folded display rather than making space for it.

Xiaomi

Hence, the camera system might still be usable despite the device being folded. Unfortunately, the patent description doesn’t reveal whether a secondary screen will also be implemented on the rear or any finer details. The hinge mechanism isn’t revealed particularly either but resembles the hideaway hinge found in the Galaxy Z Flip. At the moment, there is no confirmation is Xiaomi is actually working on the product or just covering all bases.

Vivo TWS Neo earbuds confirmed, features low latency and will arrive on 1st June

Earlier today (22nd May 2020), Vivo confirmed the launch of its upcoming truly wireless earbuds, the Vivo TWS Neo. They will be unveiled on 1st June 2020 and feature low latency, which is a highly appreciated feature in the wireless category.

The hearables were confirmed online through the company’s official Weibo account for its smart products, a Chinese microblogging website. In the online post, the company shared a small teaser video that showcased the upcoming truly wireless earbuds and its charging case as well. Looking at the video, we know that Vivo will offer the earbuds in two color variants, Black and White.

Furthermore, in the teaser post, the Chinese tech giant promised two features. The first was high quality and good audio out and the second was lower latency. For those unaware, wireless earphones, while convenient, are plagued at times with issues like latency and audio delay, especially when streaming videos. This occurs mainly in TWS earbuds and sometimes make them unusable for intensive tasks like gaming.

Vivo

However, with the inclusion of lower latency, this would mark a great improvement over Vivo’s original TWS earbuds that launched before. The Vivo TWS Neo sports an AirPod like design for its earbuds with an elongated portion that will house the mic, while the charging case is more rounded and oval in shape. Unfortunately finer details are currently unknown, so stay tuned for the launch event.

Redmi AirDots TWS earphones set to launch in India on May 26

A couple of days ago, Xiaomi had teased the arrival of a new Redmi audio product in the Indian market without revealing what the product is. Now, the company has confirmed that the Redmi TWS Earbuds will launched in India on 26th May.

Interestingly, the launch is scheduled just a day after Realme is set to launch its new budget TWS earphones, dubbed as Realme Buds Air Neo. Along with that, the company is also set to launch Realme Smart TV and Realme Watch at the same event in India.

Redmi TWS Earbuds India Launch Teaser

However, the upcoming TWS earphones from Redmi won’t be the first for Xiaomi in India. A few days ago, Xiaomi had launched its first true wireless earbuds in the Indian market — Mi True Wireless Earphones 2, along with the Mi TV Box 4K and the Mi 10 smartphone.

While Xioami has still not confirmed which product is getting launch next week, we expect it to be the Redmi AirDots S which were launched in China last month carrying a price tag of 99 yuan, which is about $15. The earbuds were launched as a successor to the Redmi AirDots earphones.

If the company is indeed launching the same in India, we expect similar pricing in the country. Since the company has teased this product, we expect the official announcement to happen in the coming days.

The Redmi AirDots S retains most of the design elements of the original Redmi AirDots. It comes with upgraded pairing method where as soon as you pair them to your phone for the first time, both earbuds are connected without the master-slave function.

For clearer calls, the Redmi true wireless earbuds use 7.2mm drivers and a DSP for smart noise reduction features. It supports Google Assistant, Siri, and XiaoAI voice assistants and comes with Bluetooth 5.0 chip, which Redmi claims delivers double the data transmission as compared to its predecessor.

It is also claimed to offer faster and more stable connectivity. There’s also a new low-latency game mode which can be enabled simply by pressing the button on the earbud three times. As for the battery, it lasts for 4 hours which can be extended to 12 hours using the carrying case.

With the launch of the Tecno Spark 5, the affordable smartphone market will see more diversity. At the moment, handsets like the Realme C3, Redmi 8A, and Redmi 8A Dual are dominating this segment, but the Spark 5 may disrupt the market with certain features that are quite unheard of at this price point.

Oppo to launch a sleeping aid (TWS) on May 24 in China

Oppo is a popular name in the smartphone market but the company also makes other products. Most of the company’s current portfolio involves accessories for phones such as wired / wireless earphones, power banks, and even a  smartwatch. Now, according to a new teaser by Oppo Health official Weibo account, the brand is set to launch a TWS for sleeping.

Oppo Sleeping TWS Earbuds

The market for sleeping aids is not much crowed as of now. The most popular product in this category was Bose Noise-masking Sleepbuds, which was discontinued last October due to faulty battery. There are other models but most of them are from uncommon brands that are not recognized well by the public.

At CES 2020, Huami announced Amazfit ZenBuds, its first sleeping earbuds. You can snag one from GizTop for $129.99. It is the only TWS for sleeping from a known brand at the moment. Above all, it is cheaper than the competition too.

Since the market for sleeping earbuds is void, Oppo is trying to seize the opportunity to make a name for itself. The teaser poster shared by the company only reveals the outline of the product along with the May 24 launch date.

That being said, we can expect Oppo to tease some of the specifications of its TWS for sleeping in the coming days.

Google Pixel 5 launch reportedly delayed; Pixel 4a to go on sale from August

Google Pixel 4a smartphone was earlier rumoured to get launched on 22nd May but the launch has been delayed. There are some reports hinting that the launch of Pixel 4a will be taking place along with Android 11 announcement on 3rd June.

However, the latest report claims that the Google Pixel 4a will be announced on 13th July and will go on sale from August. It says that the Just Black color variant will be up for purchase from 6th August while the Barely Blue variant will be available from 1st October.

Google Pixel 4A Render

There’s no reason given about Google pushing the launch of the Pixel 4a smartphone but the report mentions that it is because of market conditions. It also adds that there’s no supply chain issue and the units are ready to ship.

Another major revelation is the not only the Pixel 4a, Google is also delaying the launch of the upcoming Pixel 5 smartphone, which is expected to pack 5G support. While no timeline has been revealed, it seems that the launch could take place towards the end of the year, possibly in November.

The company could try to start selling the smartphone around the holiday season hoping for a good sales run. Apart from the market conditions, this could be a strategy of Google given that the sales numbers of Pixel 4 series is nowhere near what the company expected.

Multiple leaks related to the Google Pixel 5 have confirmed that the upcoming smartphone from the search engine giant won’t be a flagship offering but will be positioned in the upper mid-range category and could come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G or the newer Snapdragon 768 chipset.

As for the Google Pixel 4a, the phone features a 5.81-inch OLED panel with a punch-hole design and Full HD+ screen resolution. The phone is expected to arrive with Snapdragon 730 SoC, 6GB of RAM and 64/128 GB internal storage.

The Android 10 operating system will come pre-installed on the smartphone and it will be powered by a 3,080mAh battery that is expected to support 18W fast charging. The phone may arrive in the U.S with a starting price of $349.

Samsung Galaxy M51, M31s leak reveals launch timeframe and camera specs

Samsung launched Galaxy M11, Galaxy M21, and Galaxy M31 phones in the recent past. The South Korean company is now reportedly working two new Galaxy M-series phones such as Galaxy M51 (SM-M515F model number) and Galaxy M31s (SM-M317F). It is speculated that the Galaxy M51 could be a rebranded version of the Galaxy A51. However, it may arrive some changes in design and hardware. The Galaxy M31s moniker suggests that it could be an updated version of the Galaxy M31 that debuted earlier this year. A fresh report on 91mobiles has revealed the camera specs and launch timeframe of both devices.

The publication has learned through industry sources that the Galaxy M31s smartphone may debut as early as next week or at the beginning of June. The Galaxy M51 is speculated to debut by the end of June.

The South Korean company may launch it earlier, but it could be made available for purchase by late June or early July. The reason behind it seems to be a slow production due to COVID-19 lockdown restrictions. The Galaxy M51 and M31s are both expected to come with a rear-facing 64-megapixel quad camera. Hence, it appears that the renders of the Galaxy M51 that appeared with triple rear cameras a few months ago were incorrect. The main sensor seems to be Samsung’s ISOCELL GW1 64-megapixel lens.

Samsung Galaxy A51

A previous report by Sammobile had revealed the Galaxy M51 and Galaxy M31s will both come with 128 GB of built-in storage. Both devices may also come in 64 GB storage versions. The One UI 2.0 based Android 10 OS will come preinstalled on M51 and M31s. The M51 may also feature an in-screen fingerprint reader.

While the rumor mill has been actively leaking information on Galaxy M51 and Galaxy M31s, Samsung is yet to confirm its existence. Since the handsets are speculated to debut soon, the South Korean company may release their teasers soon.

Xiaomi presently has a couple of other 43-inch models including E43X, E43C, and E43A, all priced at 1199 yuan ($169). The new E43K model is 100 yuan cheaper and that is because the model doesn’t have Bluetooth onboard. Since there is no Bluetooth connectivity, the new model utilises the standard infrared remote control as against the Bluetooth remote which the other 43-inch versions feature.

The new Mi TV E43K has a 43-inch fullscreen display with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. The product utilises a bezel-less design which gives an immersive viewing. This is made possible as the screen uses a new generation of adhesives that ensure the screen is firmly bonded to the structural component.XIaomi Mi TV 43-inch E43K

The Mi smart TV is equipped with a 64-bit dual-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM and there is 8GBof internal storage. The TV supports wireless projection, DTS decoding, and has a built-in PatchWall artificial intelligence TV system. The PatchWall system not only provides access to a large database of contents but also enables the user to view smart home devices and receiving devices.

The TV also features WiFi connectivity which enables the wireless projection allowing the TV to serve as a screen for a projector even without an HDMI cable. The TV has a rich blend of interfaces which allows it to be connected to computers, game consoles, external audio equipment, etc.

Samsung Galaxy A71 5G with Snapdragon 765 could be coming to US

The Galaxy A51 5G and Galaxy A71 5G phones went official in Vietnam back in December 2019. Both phones debuted as first Samsung phones powered by Exynos 980 5G chipset. In some markets, the South Korean company is selling 4G variants of both phones. The company is expected to launch the Galaxy A51 5G and Galaxy A71 5G smartphones in the U.S. Fresh information shared by XDA Developers reveals that the U.S. edition of the Galaxy A71 5G will be driven by Snapdragon 765 SoC.

The Verizon variant of the Galaxy A71 5G has surfaced on the database of the Bluetooth SIG platform. The model number of the device is SM-A716V. The publication revealed after investigating the publicly available database for upcoming devices with online services from Verizon, it could come across “Samsung_a71xq” text. Here, “x” refers to a 5G device and “q” means it is fueled by a Snapdragon chipset.

The Geekbench listing of the U.S. variant of the Galaxy A71 5G has revealed that it is powered by a Qualcomm SoC that has a base frequency of 1.80GHz. Since Qualcomm offers Snapdragon 765 and 765G as the 5G chipset for powering mid-range phones, there is a possibility that the Galaxy A71 5G for the U.S. may include any of the two chipsets. The Verizon variant of the Galaxy A71 5G may come with mmWave support, while the non-Verizon models may lack it.

The publication has claimed that the Verizon and non-Verizon variants of the Galaxy A71 5G may break cover in the U.S. in June or July. The rest of the specs of the A71 5G for the U.S. could be the same as its 5G variant available in other countries.
