Huawei P30 and P30 Pro get Super Night Mode for selfie camera in new update

Huawei is rolling out a new update to its flagships – the Huawei P30 and the Huawei P30 Pro. The update which is rolling out in China brings a bunch of new features and optimizations but the most interesting one is Super Night Mode for the selfie camera.

Huawei P30

The update (EMUI 9.1.0.193) is rolling out to the Huawei P30 with model numbers ELE-AL00 and ELE-TL00, and to the Huawei P30 Pro with model numbers VOG-ALOO, VOG-AL10, and VOG-TL00.

With Super Night Mode now available for the front camera, owners can now take brighter selfies in low-light environments. We haven’t seen camera samples yet but we expect them to surface when the update gets a wider roll-out.

The changelog for the update also brings a video editing feature to the gallery, optimizes the fingerprint scanner (Huawei recommends setting up the fingerprint scanner afresh to see the new improvements), default activation for VoLTE calls for China Telecom users, Bluetooth support for Huawei Gentle Monster Smart Glasses, and August’s security patch.

The changelog may be slightly different when it begins to arrive for users outside China but everyone should get the Super Night Mode for the 32MP selfie camera on both phones.

The Huawei P30 and Huawei P30 Pro were released in the first quarter of the year. They are both powered by the Kirin 980 chipset but that is practically where the similarities end. The P30 Pro has a bigger screen, more cameras, a bigger battery,  support for wireless charging, support for a faster wired charging technology, an IR port, and an IP68 rating. The P30 is, of course, less expensive and has an audio jack which the Pro variant doesn’t have.

LG trademarks V60S and K50S monikers ahead of IFA 2019

LG has trademarked two new monikers for the smartphones — LG V60S and LG K50S. The development comes ahead of IFA 2019 so there’s a possibility that we could hear more about these two phones at the trade show.

As per the report, LG Electronics had filed a trademark for the name “LG V60S” in South Korea. The filing was submitted to the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) on 2nd August which has been listed online.

With LG V60 and LG K50 getting an “S” edition smartphones, it’s hard to say if the new devices will be an upgrade or downgrade over the original model. The LG G8S, which was launched soon after the launch of LG G8, was a slight downgrade. However, the LG V30S was a clear upgrade over the V30.

At the upcoming IFA 2019, South Korea-based LG is expected to announce LG V60 flagship smartphone, which the company has been teasing with its dual-screen feature. It should be a clear upgrade over the V50, though we don’t have specifics yet. We are expecting the LG V60S to be placed somewhere between LG V50 and V60.

Since the LG K50 is an entry-level smartphone, we are expecting the LG K50S to be an upgrade over the original model. We also expect the company to announce the LG G8X along with these two smartphones at IFA 2019. However, the report adds that while the LG V60S will be revealed at IFA 2019, the phone will be officially launched in 2020.

Nokia 5.2, 6.2, 7.2 and new feature phones may go official at IFA 2019

At the end of the previous week, HMD Global confirmed that it will be present at the IFA 2019 tech trade show in Berlin, Germany on Sept. 5. While the company will be attending event for the first time, there is no information available on the names of the devices that will be announced in the coming month. Nokia_Anew Twitter account that is known for sharing leaked information on upcoming Nokia phones has claimed the Finnish firm may announce Nokia 5.2, Nokia 6.2 and Nokia 7.2 phones at the event.

Nokia_Anew has claimed that its sources has confirmed that the company will be launching Nokia 5.2, Nokia 6.2 and Nokia 7.2 smartphones. These smartphones will be arriving as successor editions of the Nokia 7.1, Nokia 6.1 and Nokia 5. 1 phones from last year. Also, the company is also expected to announce three feature phones at the event. The source claims that the Nokia 5.2 and Nokia 6.2 phones were previously speculated to debut in May. However, their arrival was delayed for unknown reasons.

The Nokia 7.2 was spotted on Geekbench with yesterday 1.84GHz processing speeds for its octa-core processor. The SoC is coupled with 6 GB of RAM and it runs on Android 9 Pie OS. In the single-core and multi-core tests of Geekbench, the Nokia 7.2 has respectively scored 1604 and 5821 points. It is speculated that the phone could be equipped with Snapdragon 660 or Snapdragon 710 chipset.

Nokia 7.2 case render

The Nokia 7.2 that is codenamed as Daredevil is expected to come with a 6.3-inch IPS LCD panel, Snapdragon 660/710 chipset and up to 6 GB of RAM. The smartphone may come with up to 128 GB of native storage. Yet again, it will be an Android One device with Android 9 Pie OS onboard. It could be equipped with 48-megapixel triple camera setup and it may house a 3,500mh battery.

The Nokia 6.2 that is codenamed as Star Lord was spotted on Geekbench with Snapdragon 660, 3 GB of RAM and Android 9 Pie O in the previous month. It is expected to sport the same design Nokia 7.2, but may come packed with weaker specs. Nothing much is known about the Nokia 5.2 smartphone. Some rumors have claimed that it could be equipped with Snapdragon 632 chipset.

The aforementioned information for all three phones is not accurate. Hence, it is advisable to wait for newer reports to confirm on their specs.

Speaking of next month’s IFA 2019 event, LG is expected to announce the LG G8X and LG V60 ThinQ smartphones and Sony is rumored to unveil Xperia 2 and Xperia 20 smartphones. Huawei may unleash the Kirin 990 chipset and later in same month, it may unveil the Huawei Mate 30 series of flagship phones.

OnePlus 7T Pro rumored to launch on October 15

In 2016, China-based smartphone maker OnePlus adopted the biannual refresh cycle for its flagship smartphones and the company has stuck to that strategy since then. In the second half of the year, the company launches an upgraded variant of its first half’s smartphone with a ‘T’ prefix in its name.

This year, the company launched the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro smartphones and the company is now expected to launch the OnePlus 7T Pro smartphones. A few days ago, the upcoming smartphone’s live images were leaked online and this time, the launch date of the OnePlus 7T Pro has been leaked.

OnePlus 7T Pro leaked photo 01

If the new leak is to be believed, then the OnePlus 7T Pro smartphone will be launched on 15th October. The reported launch date is in line with the previous smartphone launches by the company.

To recall, the OnePlus 6T was launched in October last year while the OnePlus 5T made its debut in the month of November. The OnePlus 3T, the first device that started this lineup, was also launched in the month of November. Since OnePlus follows Chinese traditions, there was no OnePlus 4T as Chinese considers number 4 unlucky.

The front images of the alleged OnePlus 7T Pro smartphone revealed that it features a notch-less display, similar to the OnePlus 7 Pro. The edges of the phone are curved, and its bottom bezels appear very thin.

The speaker placed on the slim-sized top bezel of the phone appears more prominent than the OnePlus 7 Pro handset. The notch-less design suggests that the smartphone will be equipped with a pop-up selfie snapper.

There is a vertical triple camera unit in the upper half of the rear shell. The first two camera sensors are placed together and there is a small gap between the second and third sensor. An LED flash can be also below the triple camera unit. There is no rear-mounted fingerprint scanner since it seems to be embedded under the display. The rear design of the upcoming 7T Pro seems identical to the  7 Pro smartphone.

The ‘T’ edition smartphones from OnePlus usually carries improved specs but keeps design identical to the original model. So, there is a possibility that the OnePlus 7T Pro may look like the OnePlus 7 Pro smartphone, but come with enhanced specs.

If the rumors are to be believed, then the OnePlus 7T Pro could be fueled by the new 2.96GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ octa-core processor and it may feature improved cameras. There is a possibility that it may come with new color options. We expect to know more about the phone in the coming weeks.

New leak shows Motorola phone with no notch and punch hole

After ditching the bezels on most of its phones, Motorola’s recent phones have either adopted the notch display design or the punch-hole display design. A new leak has revealed a Motorola phone that ditches the bezel and also skips the notch and punch hole.

The picture of the unknown Motorola phone was shared on Twitter by Evan Blass. Motorola has shaved off the side and top bezels but keeps the lower one for the manufacturer’s name. The right side of the phone is home to the volume rocker and power button while the left side of the phone is bare.

Based on the design of the display, this phone most likely sports a pop-up selfie camera

Other than this front view of the phone, Evan didn’t share any detail about the device. His caption for the image reads “Which Moto is this?”. We expect him to share more info in the coming days.

Motorola has a bunch of phones coming soon. There is the quad-camera toting Motorola One Zoom, there is also the Motorola One Action rumored to launch in India on August 23, and then the Motorola One Macro. While we have seen renders of the first two, we have no idea what the Macro looks like.

The photo above may be that of the Motorola One Macro or an entirely different device. Whichever one it is, only time will tell.

Teaser for India-exclusive HTC smartphone reveals it has a notch

This month has been a mix of good and bad for HTC. First, it was announced that the Taiwanese company no longer sell its phones in the UK as a result of a patent dispute with the Munich-based company, IPCom. The patent in question is related to a wireless technology developed for car phones. While UK fans of the company mourn the unavailability of HTC phones, those in India are celebrating the company’s plan to return to the Indian market.

Today, HTC India released a teaser confirming its return to the country. The video chronicles HTC’s achievements – from the first touch-centric phone in 2007 to the first Android phone in 2018 and the first smartphone with a metal body in 2013 and more.

The last few seconds of the thirty-six-second video shows a sketch of the phone launching in India this year. The only detail it reveals is that the phone will have a waterdrop notch.

The phone is believed to be the HTC Wildfire (2019), which according to leaks, will sport a 6.2-inch HD+ display, an Helio P23 processor, 16MP + 5MP dual rear cameras, and a 3500mAh battery. It will also have 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

HTC teaser

As you can see in the teaser, the phone isn’t the only product teased. There is a smaller device with a wrist strap. We have no idea what the second product is but we have a guess. We think it is a power bank or a portable battery pack.

HTC has made power banks in the past but we haven’t heard of a new model in a while. It makes sense if it also plans to revive its accessory business alongside its smartphone business in India.

Huawei demos phone with LCD screen in-display fingerprint scanner

So far, all phones with an in-display fingerprint scanner have an AMOLED display. About a year ago, there were reports that phones with LCD displays will also have in-display fingerprint scanners in 2019 but none has been announced yet.

Back in April, it was reported that the world’s LCD display with an in-display fingerprint scanner has been developed. Now a video of a Huawei phone rocking the new technology has surfaced on the web.

The alleged Huawei phone is hidden in a case that hides the bulk of the design but we can see it has no notch nor punch hole. Based on this, we presume it has a pop-up selfie camera.

The unlock process is put at 300ms, a little faster than that of the OnePlus 6T which unlocks in 0.34 seconds.

We do not know if this is a prototype phone designed for the sole purpose of testing the LCD in-display fingerprint sensor technology or this is a Huawei phone set to launch soon. If it is the latter, more details should surface soon.

The cooperation isn’t beneficial to Meitu alone, as Huawei’s technology head is quoted to have said that “The strength and status of Meitu in the optimisation industry is undoubted. The Huawei exec also hinted that most Huawei phone users use Meitu camera software so the tech giant invited Meitu’s team to make special optimization and enhancement to its camera app.

Until recently, the company was known for making selfie beautifying apps but later started making phones with selfie-centric smartphones. The smartphone arm has been sold to Xiaomi but Meitu’s camera optimization algorithm is still widely popular. Apart from Huawei, Xiaomi has also teamed up with Meitu to develop its phone camera software.

DxOMark: The Galaxy Note10+ 5G is the best camera phone

The Galaxy Note10 series has been in the news for weeks even before it launched last week. It is supposed to continue trending with reviews and more details dropping. Now, DxOMark has released a review of the Galaxy Note10+ 5G’s camera and ranks it as the best camera smartphone.

Galaxy Note10 5G DxOMark

The Samsung Galaxy Note10+ 5G is not only the king when it comes to the rear cameras, beating the Huawei P30 Pro with a single point for an overall score of 113, it is also the phone with the best selfie camera, dethroning the ASUS Zenfone 6 which occupied the top spot before.

The Galaxy Note10 5G has four cameras – a 12MP 1.4µm primary sensor with an f/1.5-2.4 variable aperture. The second sensor is a 16MP 1.0µm ultrawide camera with an f/2.2 aperture, the third is a 12MP 1.0µm f/2.1 aperture with PDAF and OIS, and the fourth is a ToF sensor.

DxOMark gives the phone a photo score of 118 which is where the Huawei P30 Pro surpasses it. It praises its wide dynamic range, especially in high-contrast conditions. The exposure also gets praise, “consistent and accurate across a range of lighting conditions” according to the review. The autofocus system and flash module of the phone also contribute greatly to the overall photo score of the Note10+ 5G.

For video, the phone gets a score of 101, the highest for any smartphone. It can record in 4K while maintaining a high level of detail. Noise levels, both indoors and outdoors, are also well-managed. Autofocus and stabilization are also ranked high.

For the front-facing camera, the Galaxy Note10+ 5G has a single 10MP 1.22µm f/2.2 camera with Dual-Pixel autofocus. It can also record in 4K at 30fps.

It scored 103 points in the photo score with its strongest areas being flash, color reproduction, autofocus, and exposure. Skin tones are rendered well, though there are cases of undersaturation in low-light environments. Noise control also gets a thumbs up indoors and outdoors but also takes a dip when the area is very dim. Bokeh mode is great but is not as great as those of phones with dual front-facing cameras like the Pixel 3 XL.

For videos, the Galaxy Note10+ 5G ties with the Zenfone 6. Like the ASUS flagship, it also records in 4K (by default now) and texture and details have improved.

The Galaxy Note10+ 5G will continue to hold the crown until contenders like the Huawei Mate 30 Pro and the Pixel 4 XL get released.

The Note10+ 5G starts at $1300 and is already available for pre-order.

“Space Capsule” shaped Blackview BV5900 images leaked! (video)

Photos of an upcoming device from Blackview surfaced yesterday and according to these images, the Blackview BV5900 features a “space capsule” shape as well as a waterdrop notch display and smoothly curved corners. Also, a durability test video was uploaded yesterday on the company’s official YouTube channel.

If you look carefully, you can see that the frame around the display is a bit elevated, about 1mm. Our guess is that Blackview did this on purpose to protect the display from hitting directly on the floor in case of an accidental drop. It can also become handy when you put your phone on a table with the display facing down. Thankfully, this doesn’t affect the design of the phone.

Blackview BV5900

But the coolest part is the back of the device. Previously, Blackview had released a publicity photo showing what seems to be a space capsule-inspired design. In the new images, the space capsule’s iconic lines that seek the ultimate balance between aesthetics and engineering are clear. We can also see that there will be a dual-camera setup on the back.

Of course, as a rugged outdoor phone, besides appearance, the BV5900 also comes with waterproof, dustproof and drop-proof features. Can the tri-proof performance become even better? We’ll know pretty soon as it seems. In the meantime, you can subscribe on the promo page for the BV5900 to get a discount when the device is officially released.

Xiaomi’s 70Mai Smart Car DVR 2 launched with an Hisilicon chip and several improved feature

Xiaomi‘s ecological chain company 70Mai is known for its in-car smart products. The company’s products include the first-generation smart DVR dash camera, smart rearview mirrors, tire pressure monitoring, and car air purifiers. The company has launched the 70Mai Car Smart DVR 2 with some improvements over the previous model. It still comes with an affordable 299 yuan ($42).70Mai Smart Car DVR 2

The 70Mai Smart Car DVR 2 is equipped with a low-power OmniVision image sensor with a maximum resolution is 2560X1600 pixels. This means the camera can easily capture full HD images. The camera has a large aperture of F/1.8 and a wide-angle of 140 degrees. This model also has a wider field of view.

At the heart of the device is an Hisilicon Hi3556V200 high-performance processor which can quickly process huge driving record data. The processor has faster compression technology. Compared with traditional H.264 decoding, the compression rate is increased by 30%, which saves storage space.

The dashcam has a built-in sensor that supports “vehicle collision automatic recording” . In the event of an emergency, the dashboard recorder can protect the live image data separately from loop coverage. The dashcam goes into sleep mode while the car is parked but the G-sensor will continuously monitor the vehicle. If a collision occurs during parking, the recorder will automatically turn on and start recording the parking monitoring video.

The device can be connected to a smartphone app via Wi-Fi which allows the owner to view live videos and even playback and also download the previously recorded videos.

There are no words on when the device will go on sale.
