OnePlus already hinted that it is planning to delve into the smart TV market. The remote control for the OnePlus TV had earlier last month received Bluetooth SIG certification. And now, the OnePlus TV itself has been listed on Bluetooth SIG website showing us some details of the gadget.
The OnePlus TV is revealed to come with LED display as all the models listed were listed as LED TVs. So, there is likely no possibility of a cheaper LCD display-packing version. A total of 40 models were listed with different model numbers. However, the models all seem to have one thing in common, the sizes. The TV will likely be available in 43-inch, 55-inch,65-inch and 75-inch display sizes. The variations in the model number are basically different versions for the Chinese, Indian, US and China markets, going by the model numbers. For example, the model number 43Q2IN suggests that this is a 43-inch model intended for India. There are also model numbers like 75Q2CN (potentially a 75-inch model for China) and 65Z3US (suggesting a 65-inch model for the U.S.).
In addition, the smart TV models will run Google’s Android operating system since it is listed as a “unique Android TV.” Thus, the company won’t need to start building is own app and other software for the smart TV as it will leverage the already existing Android TV apps. We expect some form of modification on the operating system, though, especially since Google services are not allowed in China. The upcoming smart TV lineup will also come with Bluetooth 5.0 support.
Data released by three credible Chinese research firms last month showed that Xiaomi’s TV brand continues to retain its position as the number one brand in terms of shipment in China in H1 2019. The data from Aowei Cloud Network (AVC), Qunzhi Consulting and Zhongyikang respectively, all showed that the Mi TV brand consistently dominated the market from January to June 2019.
While some analysts attribute the growing sale of Xiaomi TVs in China to its low-cost when compared to the competition, Lei Jun thinks the major reason for the high sales is continuous innovation. In a Weibo post today, the Xiaomi founder made reference to the innovative mural TV which won the “color TV innovation products” award in the “China Intelligent Display and Innovation Application Industry Conference.” The smart TV had previously won several awards such as the 2019 Top Ten TV Awards, High-end Smart Product Award, Disp Grand Prize-AIoT Technology. The product has also succeeded in establishing the Mi TV brand in the high-end market. The mural TV adopts a 6999 Yuan ($1042) price tag, which is the highest for any Xiaomi TV product.
Xiaomi’s Mural TV is just like LG’s Wallpaper TV!
It is quite difficult to agree with Lei Jun outrightly o this one. Rather, we think the rise of the Mi TV brand is as a result of a blend of innovativeness and cost-effective pricing. When Xiaomi first ventured into the manufacture of TV, the pricing couple with the quality of the products contributed to the high sales. We don’t see that changing anytime soon, as the company is bringing in innovativeness into the mix.

As many DSLR and mirrorless cameras are turned into video recorder with powerful video capacity, the topic of camera monitors gets much attention. A functional camera monitor can effectively boost the experience of the recording process, and post-production as well. Especially, an experienced filmmaker can take the advantages of a camera monitor to ensure better frame control. In this review, we are going to introduce a convenient camera monitor which the Gizmochina video team used frequently, the Pergear A6 Plus.
Display & Design
The Pergear A6 Plus is one of those on-camera monitors that is easily operated for beginners and even most people. It has a 5.5-inch 1920×1080 Full HD IPS LCD panel with 10000:1 contrast and 8-bit colors, which allows users to have a more vibrant and more accurate rendition of what the camera sensor sees. The A6 Plus features a touchscreen for menu operation and ‘pinch to zoom’, which is convenient to check your frames with correct detail. Otherwise, for better user experience, the A6 Plus provides a menu handwheel, which also can bring a shortcut to access any options of the menu without touching the screen.
Appearance
The Pergear 6 Plus is one of the lightest over 5-inch on-camera monitors that we have ever used. 230 weight, 21mm thickness and 5.5-inch size will allow you to take it as even a Vlog accessory anywhere.
1 of 2
As we have used it as our main monitor for weeks, the screen presents a good strength and durability. As Pergear describe, it applies OCR full-fit technology to reach a high strength and uses a scratch-resistant, impact-resistant glass. In practical scenarios, it does have above-average durability without obvious marks. One problem is that it does collect fingerprint, but it will not be a problem if filming it with a screen protector.
Power supply & Battery
The 6 Plus leaves a flexible dual-purpose battery plate, which is compatible with Sony F970 and Canon LP-E6 of lithium battery. It guarantees long-session working durability under outdoor conditions. If you are filming indoors, it also supports a DC 12V port for power input without battery.
Ports
Another surprise of hardware is that in such a small body, it has various ports to achieve multiple functions. The ports information is as below:
3.5mm audio output
Monitor audio recording quality
1×HDMI Input; 1×HDMI Output
Support up to 4K signal input and pass the signal to a second monitor simultaneously (usually used in teamwork).
DC 12V power input
Monitor works with wired power
DC 8V power output
Interface for power your camera with a separately available DC coupler via adaptor.
SD card slot
For 3D LUT upload and firmware upgrade
1 of 2
3D LUT support
The A6 Plus supports built-in LUTs such as Vlog, Slog2, Slog3, Logc, which covers most mainstream DSLR and mirrorless LUT setting. In addition, you can also upload the 3D LUT file through SD card to preview your movie with post-production effects. If you still want to have a second color adjustment when shooting, you can also have brightness, contrast, sharpness, hue, saturation, and color temp adjustment in the menu. For color adjustment, it has reached almost all the functions that a professional monitor has and brings you more possibilities to have better images before you go to the post-editing.
Software features
Besides the rich features of hardware, the Pergear 6 Plus provides various built-in features to reduce errors to the most extent.
Focus assist
Red, green, blue, white, yellow five peaking colors optional
Zebra
Convenient to guide light using when shooting and post-production
False Color
Convenient to guide light using when shooting and post-production
Anamorphic Mode

A quantitative tool to inspect the image brightness, to guide the post-production
Each pixel received is mapped to a single native pixel on the monitor

Included important accessories
Tilt Arm
180° of tilt for convenient monitoring at nearly any angle.
With a cold shoe
Sunshade & Sunshade frame
Sunlight readable
Storage Box
The 6 Plus has 3 1/4”-20 thread points for connection to the hot shoe mount. With the included Tilt Arm, it can reach almost any angle for monitoring. It’s flexible when shooting some special scenes.
Language
The A6 Plus supports 8 languages including Chinese, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Japanese and Korean, which covers a global user variety.
Conclusion
Though compared with those professional on-camera monitors, it does not support 8-bit colors and internal record with SSD, it already prepares the most important functions for general users under various use scenarios. And if you only have a limited budget, considering the 4K signal support, the price of 229 USD probably is one of the best choices. During these weeks shooting video with it, we probably will continuously take it as our first monitor under most conditions, especially for outdoor filming. And we also recommend it as your first on-camera monitor if you are a new player who wants to produce wonderful movies.
The Pergear A6 Plus monitor is available for $229 on Amazon, get it via this link.

This afternoon, Xiaomi held the Xiaomi Future Image Technology Communication Meeting in Beijing. Xiaomi co-founder and president Lin Bin made an appearance detailing the company’s upcoming 64MP Redmi smartphone, as well as the company’s advancements in camera technology and their future in terms of camera suppliers and performance.
According to Lin Bin, Xiaomi first set up an independent camera team two years ago. In May 2018, an official camera department was set up that would involve all aspects of hardware and software development for their camera technology. On top of this, the company’s AI algorithm team is comprised of more than 1,000 people, with over 684 global patents in AI, ranking them 11th in the world.
He then goes on to reaffirm that the company’s upcoming device will utilize Samsung‘s 64MP GW1 sensor. Li Jishuo, the global vice president of Samsung Electronics’ LSI Division, came on stage and introduced some of the main highlights of the Samsung GW1 sensor. First, the GW1 uses a 1/1.7-inch ultra-large bottom sensor, which is 34% larger than their previous sensor and supports four-in-one pixel-binning technology.
In addition, the Samsung GW1 sensor also supports pixel-isolated ISOCELL PLUS technology, which guarantees high color reproduction while improving sensitivity by 15%. At the same time, the intelligent ISO technology can ensure that the highlights of the photos are not overexposed while simultaneously reducing noise in darker parts of the image.
Samsung GW1 sampleCamera sample zoom in
Finally, the Samsung GW1 supports hybrid 3D HDR, intelligent pixel-level hierarchical exposure and hardware-level real-time HDR, ensuring a wider dynamic range for photos and better handling of all sorts of lighting situations. Samsung is extremely proud of this sensor, and hopes to see it featured in the upcoming 64MP Redmi device soon.
One other interesting detail was added by Lin Bin near the end of the presentation.According to the Xiaomi president, the company has plans to use a Samsung sourced 100MP sensor in the near future.Though no concrete date was given, Lin Bin seemed confident that it would be arriving sooner rather than later. Whether we need 100MPs is a whole other story, but it’s still good to see that Xiaomi are taking their cameras seriously.

Although the name is not certain, what we know is that Sony has been busy registering a trademark for S-Cinetone — apparently a function that will be available with the upcoming Xperia 2, but it will not stop there. According to the documents filed with the USPTO and the EUIPO, this technology will be found in smartphones, digital cameras, computer programs, tablets, and more.
Given the wide range of devices mentioned above and the inclusion of computer programs in the list, S-Cinetone is most likely a software function that does not rely on a certain hardware component and has something to do with color adjustment. If anything, we expect it to be an evolution of the Cinema Pro mode on the Xperia 1 that allowed users to capture 4K video at 30FPS.
In the hardware department, the Sony Xperia 2 is expected to feature a 6.1-inch display with 4K resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, 6 GB of memory, and a 3,000 mAh battery with wireless charging support. This handset will probably be unveiled next month at IFA 2019 in Berlin, just like the Sony Xperia 1 before it.
Considering Sony’s current situation, they need the Xperia 2 to be at least a slightly bigger success than its predecessor. We know the company has some mid-range phones in the works, though we honestly doubt they’ll be priced competitively enough to go against the current juggernauts. If things go badly once again, it could spell the end for the company’s mobile division.

China is “blackmailing” India into using Huawei for its 5G infrastructure, an influential U.S. Congressman alleged on Tuesday. The U.S. has banned Huawei, one of the leaders in 5G development, over concerns of security, and Washington has been putting pressure on other countries to restrict the operations of the Chinese telecom firm.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, it’s been almost impossible to avoid the barrage of news regarding Huawei’s ban in the USA. The Trump administration has been asking all its allies and friends, including India, to block the entry of Huawei from using their 5G infrastructure, a next generation cellular technology with download speeds stated to be 10 to 100 times faster than the current 4G LTE networks.
Congressman Jim Banks claims that “China is now blackmailing India into using Huawei for its 5G infrastructure — they know no bounds!” He goes on to say that “(The Chinese Communist Party) moves to strong-arming countries into exposing themselves to surveillance and espionage.”
On the other hand, China on Tuesday made claims hoping that India would make an “independent and objective” judgement on permitting its telecom giant Huawei in 5G trials and services in the country.
India themselves haven’t had anything concrete to say. In October, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host Chinese President Xi Jinping in the sacred Hindu city of Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency in northern India, where the two are expected to address trade issues including a US$53 billion trade deficit in 2018-19 that India is concerned about.
Ashwani Mahajan, the head of the economic wing of the Hindu nationalist Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, said there were concerns about the operations of Huawei in India.
“We as a country are not yet sure of relying on Huawei. Globally, the Chinese companies, including Huawei, are facing allegations that they ‘underbid’ projects, and position themselves and their establishment back home to snoop and enable them to shut remotely, if required be,” he wrote.
Senator Marsha Blackburn alleged that China, along with state-run company Huawei, is looking to push its spy embedded technology onto America and its allies. “We need to draw a hard line to protect our national security interests and intellectual property,” she said.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that if a country adopts Huawei technology, the U.S. “won’t be able to share” information with them. “We won’t be able to work alongside them,” he said. For any updates on the situation, stay tuned here on Gizmochina.com.
Honor is all set to launch a new product line at the Huawei Developers Conference 2019 on 10th August — Honor Smart Screen, which is basically a smart TV line. Now, ahead of the launch, the company has revealed it has received more than 100,000 reservations online for the upcoming product.
The Honor Smart Screen’s product reservation page on JD.com had revealed that it will be available in two variants — a standard variant and a Pro variant. Both of these smart screens will feature a 55-inch panel.
Recently, at an event, Honor’s President, George Zhao had confirmed that Honor’s new smart screen will be powered by Honghu 818 chipset, which is developed by Huawei’s Hisilicon in partnership with Baidu. This is different from the Kirin lineup that powers Huawei and Honor smartphones and looks to be optimized specifically for smart screen products.
The Honghu 818’s computing power and decoding capability will ensure that Honor’s new smart screen offers excellent picture and sound quality. The new chipset supports HDR, super-resolution (SR), noise-reduction (NR), dynamic contrast improvement (DCI), automatic color management (ACM) and motion estimation motion compensation (MEMC) technologies to offer a high-end video experience.
It also integrates Huawei’s Histen sound quality optimization technology which is found on the company’s smartphones as well. The Honghu 818 also supports 8K@30fps and 4K@120fps video decoding and up to 64MP image decoding.
The Honor smart screen also features a pop-up camera which is likely going be used to capture pictures and make video calls. However, what makes it even more interesting is that it supports facial recognition, which could be one of the ways to secure the device.
It has already been confirmed that the Honor Smart Screen devices will be the first products to be powered by the HongMeng OS. Recently, we also got the first sneak peek at the user interface of the Honor Smart Screen powered by the HongMeng OS.
As per the company’s claims, the 55-inch Honor Smart Screen will be more than a regular TV. Zhao has said that Honor does not want to release a traditional TV and instead, it wants to accelerate the evolution of the TV industry with the help of innovation.
At the beginning of this week, Redmi had confirmed that it will be holding an event on Aug. 7 in China. The translated text on the poster for today’s event read ‘Xiaomi Future Technology Communication Meeting.’ Probably, the company will be talking about the upcoming 64-megapixel Redmi phone’s photography prowess. Rumors have it that the mysterious Redmi phone will be equipped with Samsung GW1 64-megapixel sensor. Xiaomi’s Mobile Product Marketing Director, Yan Zhiyuan has confirmed through a Weibo post that the company will be using the GW1 sensor from Samsung.
Zhiyuan has also stated that the company has prepared a massive stock of the sensor. Xiaomi or spin-off brand could become the first company to launch the world’s first smartphone with 64-megapixel camera. Rumors surrounding it have claimed that the mysterious smartphone will be featuring a quad camera setup and it could be powered by the newly announced gaming focused MediaTek Helio G90T processor.
Coming back to the 64-megapixel GW1 sensor which seems to be one of the major contents of Xiaomi’s event today, it is equipped with Samsung’s ISOCELL Plus technology that reduces leakage of light. The sensor supports real-time HDR of up to 100-decibles for producing richer hues. It is also equipped with Super PD which is nothing but a high-performance phase detection auto-focus technology. The sensor can capture full HD slow-motion videos at 480fps.
Samsung ISOCELL GW1 and GM2
It goes without saying that the major attraction of the Samsung GW1 sensor is that it can shoot 64-megapixel shots with a top resolution of 9216 x 6912 pixels. It has a large pixel seize of 1/1.72” and very high sensitivity. Powered with Samsung’s Tetracell technology that combines four pixels into a large-sized one, the GW1 sensor can shoot 16-megapixel shots in low-light conditions.
Realme will be holding its Summer Image Technology Communication event on Aug. 15 in China. It is also expected to speak to its one upcoming 64-megapixel quad camera smartphone. The handset is also expected to feature the Samsung GW1 sensor. It is speculated that the Realme 5 Pro could be equipped with a 64-megapixel quad camera setup. Rumors have also claimed that the Redmi Note 8 could be the first Redmi phone to feature the 64-megapixel lens.
ZTE’s sub-brand Nubia is all set to launch its new flagship smartphone — Nubia Z20 at a launch event in China on 8th August, i.e. tomorrow. While the company had revealed the launch date earlier, it has now started sending out media invites for the same.
This time, the company has opted to use a booklet style design for the launch event invites. The cover of the booklet has the same design that we saw on the launch date announcement poster shared by the company. It also mentions the launch date and the city for the event on the cover page.
For this invitation, Nubia and China Post have launched a new custom stamp which has a face value of 1.2 yuan. On one side, there’s a pattern of “Sun Bird” while on the other hand, there are images of Milky Way and Starry Night taking using the Nubia smartphone.
The invite booklet contains square-shared photo samples printed on one of the pages inside the booklet, highlighting the camera capabilities of the Nubia smartphone. It walks us through the breakthroughs in smartphone photography, including NeoVision engine, creating Lightway Camera, Star Track Mode, Time Lapse Photography, Independent Metering, and Focusing, etc.
Ni Fei, President of the Nubia brand has revealed that the upcoming Nubia Z20 will feature a curved design on the front as well as the back. TENAA listing also confirms Nubia Z20’s design and specs. There will be a 6.42-inch OLED display up front along with another display at the back, again an OLED panel but featuring a smaller 5.1-inch display with a lower HD+ resolution.
The phone continues with the dual fingerprint design from the Nubia X. As for the cameras, the device will come with a triple camera setup at the back, aligned horizontally on top with a dual-tone flash on each side of the setup. The phone is thick at 9mm, which is acceptable given that it has an additional screen at the back and packs a large 3900mAh battery.
Nubia Z20 is expected to bring a flagship-level camera experience, even capable of shooting 8K videos. The company has already shared a few samples from the device and they look beautiful, especially all the landscapes. To know for sure what the phone packs as well as its pricing and availability, we’ll have to wait for a few more hours.
