ZTE Axon 10 Pro features a 6.4-inch FHD+ flexible AMOLED display

A couple of days ago, ZTE launched its flagship smartphone — ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G — which is also the company’s first smartphone to support 5G connectivity. The phone was announced at the Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona, along with the ZTE Blade V10.

However, the company has not revealed details about the phone’s display but now, the company has shared those details. It comes with a 6.4-inch Full HD+ flexible AMOLED display which is developed by Visionox, having screen thickness reduction of up to 30% compared to traditional flexible screens.

The company further adds that it has adopted the COP packaging technology, and the bottom frame of the screen measures only 1.8mm, which the company claims is the smallest in the bottom border of flexible AMOLED screen production globally.

ZTE Axon 10 Pro achieves 5G full-band coverage and also supports sub-6G frequency that brings ultra-high-speed experience which is much faster compared to the 4G network. The company says that the phone uses a revolutionary 5G antenna solution to optimize harmonics and intermodulation, automatically adjust the antenna structure, and adopt intelligent SAR solution.

The smartphone, which features an edge-to-edge display with a waterdrop notch on the top, is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 octa-core chipset which is manufactured using the 7nm process, paired with Snapdragon X50 modem to enable the 5G connectivity.

The handset comes with triple rear camera sensors along with a number of AI-powered features, including scene recognition. On the flip side, there will be a 20-megapixel front-facing snapper for taking selfies and video calling. Like most other flagship devices, this one too comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor.

China-based ZTE is yet to reveal details about the memory configuration, including RAM and internal storage as well as other connectivity features. We’ll have to wait for at least a few more weeks to know more about the ZTE Axon 10 Pro.

After showcasing its upcoming 5G smartphone at the Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona, Spain, OnePlus is now gearing up to launch its flagship phone — OnePlus 7.

Recently, in an interview with CNET, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau revealed that the next-generation OnePlus smartphone won’t come with support for wireless charging.

OnePlus is known for offering top-of-the-line specifications at a comparatively cheaper price. However, to do so, the company has to ditch some features and one of them is wireless charging — something that many of its users are expecting since past couple of years.

While it’s not that the company won’t be offering wireless charging on its smartphones at all, but it won’t be coming anytime soon. The reason behind that is the company’s proprietary charging technology — Warp Charge which was earlier known as Dash Charge.

Pete Lau explained that the standard set by the Warp Charge is the benchmark and compared to that, the current wireless charging is too slow. So, it seems that the wireless charging will be made available on the OnePlus smartphone when the technology develops further and offers faster charging than the current standards.

OnePlus has been working to accelerate the development of wireless charging and is currently figuring out how to charge quickly without generating much heat. Currently, most of the flagship smartphones from leading brands offer wireless charging, including Apple, Samsung, Huawei, LG, Xiaomi, among others.

Recently, an alleged image of the OnePlus surfaced online showing that the phone will come with a notch-less screen and a pop-up selfie camera. The design seems similar to the upcoming Oppo R19 Pro, which could be the reference design for the upcoming OnePlus flagship.

Vivo V1818EA and V1818ET that are variants of an upcoming Vivo phone in China have received approvals from TENAA telecom authority. The entire specifications and images of the mysterious phone have been leaked through its TENAA approval. It seems that it is the next budget-friendly Vivo smartphone that will soon debut in the home market.

In terms of specs, there is no major difference between the Vivo V1818EA and V1818ET smartphones. The Vivo 1818EA/ET measures 155.11 x 75.09 x 8.28mm and it weighs 163.5 grams. The smartphone is fitted with a waterdrop notched 6.2-inch HD+ display that carries support for HD+ resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels. It includes a battery of 3,935mAh capacity.

The smartphone is powered by 2.0 GHz octa-core processor and 3 GB of RAM. It has an internal storage of 32 GB. There is a microSD card slot on the device for additional storage. The rear shell of the phone has 13-megapixel rear camera and a frontal shooter of 5-megapixel. The handset is loaded with Android 8.1 Oreo OS.\

The rear shell of the Vivo V1818EA/ET sports a gradient hue, but it seems to be made out of plastic. Huawei says it won’t grant Chinese government’s requests to open “back doors” in foreign telecoms networks

Huawei had a press event in Canada last week where its chairman tried to allay the fears associated with its 5G technology.

Chairman Liang Hua said there is no law that forces companies to create “back doors” in their networks. He added that Huawei hasn’t received any request to do so and even if they did, they would refuse to do it snce it is unlawful.

Mr. Hua told reporters that he leads “an independent business organization” and they “have kept a good track record on cybersecurity”.

Huawei is trying to renew trust in its technology as the US and its allies have/considering placing a ban on using the Chinese giant’s technology to build their 5G networks. Huawei is not only a phone manufacturer but also a telecommunications company that develops the hardware used in communication towers and related communications technology infrastructure.

China’s security laws actually require that organizations will cooperate with the government for intelligence work. This has raised fears that the Chinese government can request Huawei to create a vulnerability in the networks it develops for other countries. The chairman confirmed the law does exist but said it does not require it to open up a back door so that communication can be monitored.

Countries like the US and Australia have already issued bans to Huawei from 5G networks but some such as Germany have said an outright ban on Huawei isn’t legally viable but approved companies will have to meet a high level of security standards. The UK is yet to decide.

Samsung sends out invite for Galaxy S10, S10+ and S10e India launch for March 6

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked launch event was held in New York last week. During the event, Samsung took the wraps off the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy S10e. The Galaxy trio is expected to be released in India sometime soon but the exact date wasn’t revealed when the pricing for India was revealed by Samsung just after the US launch. However, Samsung has now released the launch date for the models in India.

The Korean tech giant has sent out press invites for the Galaxy S10 launch in India billed to take place on March 6. According to the invitation, the launch event will be held in India’s capital New Dehli and will commence at 12pm IST.

The pricing of the models in India released earlier shows that the Galaxy S10e (6GB+128GB) will be the cheapest variant that will be sold in India with a price tag of INR 55,900 (~$790). The Galaxy S10e also has a 6GB+256GB variant but that one will not be sold in India, according to Samsung. Interestingly, the Galaxy S10+ 12GB+1TB variant which is the topmost model will be sold in India for INR 117,900 (~$1,660). Huawei P30 Pro hands-on pictures leaked ahead of its launch next month

Huawei is expected to go official with its first flagship model for the year, the P30 series within the first quarter. There are speculations, backed by an official statement from Huawei Poland that the models will be launched around March ending. The P30 series will be made up of the Huawei P30, P30 Pro and the P30 Lite. The Huawei P30 Pro is expected to be the standout model among the lot and so, it is no surprise that the device has repeatedly featured in leaks. However, a leak that will likely make it into contenders for the mother of all leaks has appeared online.

The leak is that of the P30 Pro real live pictures showing what should be the final design but this is a dummy. The leak emanated from Digital Trends which claimed to have had personal time with the upcoming Huawei flagship. Since it is a dummy unit, Digital Trend says the screen does work. But to buttress suspicions that this might be the final design, they weren’t allowed to take photos of the front.

The device shows the rear will have a triple camera setup. We also see the words “Vogue” and “Link”. Vogue is said to be the codename for the device while link will be replaced with “Leica on the final product. Overall, the design is said to be closer to the Mate 20 Pro but retains the aesthetics of the P20 Pro. Earlier leaks suggest the P30 Pro will feature a teardrop design at the top and will have a quad camera setup at the rear. This last has definitely not been heard about the device. We expect more details to be outed ahead of its launch.

Meizu 16s Plus live photos leak: no notch, no punch hole

The Meizu 16s and Meizu 16s Plus are Meizu’s flagships for the year. Live photos of the latter have appeared online and they show what the front of the phone looks like.

Just like last year’s flagship – the Meizu 16 Plus, the Meizu 16s Plus will not have a notch. It will also not have a punch hole in its display. Meizu is sticking to slim bezels and it claims this year’s model has a slightly thinner chin.

There is a slit for the speaker where the top bezel touches the phone’s frame and to its right is the selfie camera. Unfortunately, there are no photos of the back of the phone.

The Meizu 16s Plus is said to have a 6.76-inch AMOLED display – 0.26-inches larger than its predecessor’s. There should be a fingerprint scanner buried underneath the display.

The phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 855 processor and will have a 48MP primary camera with optical image stabilization. As seen in the images above, the Meizu 16s Plus will come in white and black color variants.

Xiaomi announces partnership with Light, the company that developed Nokia 9’s penta-cameras

Xiaomi recently released the flagship Mi 9 with a triple camera setup, its first phone with three rear shooters. This is China’s “Apple” keeping up with the trend in camera technology which has seen several OEMs release models with triple, quad and penta cameras. Seems Xiaomi will keep on slapping more sensors on its rear camera setup as it has announced a new partnership with Light, the company reputed to have developed the Nokia 9’s penta-camera setup.

Light claims it is the “world’s most advanced imaging platform” and the Nokia 9 PureView camera technology is a testament to that. The company rattled the industry when it released the Light L16 camera, which featured 16 cameras. Light’s technology combines 10 different images into a single super high-res photo.

Xiaomi becomes the third OEM to partner with Light after Nokia and Sony. Zhu Dan, VP of Xiaomi’s smartphone camera division has this to say; “We are thrilled to partner with Light to leverage their advanced imaging solutions for our future devices.” He went further to disclose that the company works tirelessly to remain at the forefront of smartphone innovation and that perfecting smartphone photography was a key focus for the Chinese phone maker. No mention was made of the project the company was working on but we expect something out of the ordinary.

FCC certifies US carrier versions of the Google Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite

The Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite are upcoming mid-range smartphones from Google. They are less-powerful models of the 2018 flagships. While there are rumors they may land first in India, it appears the phones will also be available in the US and even under contract with different carriers.

The FCC has certified about eight Google smartphones running Android 9 Pie. Two of them have the model numbers G020B and G020F which are believed to be the Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite respectively. However, there are other variants such as G020A, G020C, G020D, G020E, G020G, and G020H. The first three are believed to be variants of the smaller Lite model while the remaining three are variants of the XL model.

It has been reported that these other variants are likely carrier versions of both phones. An FCC filing shows the G020C model with support for US LTE bands. The other variants also support different US LTE bands.

The teaser had also shown that the device will have an elevating front-facing camera. Apart from the camera, no other details of the F11 Pro have been reveal until now, thanks to a purported GeekBench listing.

The device is said to have appeared on GeekBench as OPPO CPH1969 which is perhaps the codename but we couldn’t find it on the database. The listing shows it is powered by a MediaTek Helio P70 chipset paired with 6GB of RAM. The listing also shows the device will run on Android 9.0 Pie from the go but this will likely have OPPO’s custom Color 6 OS on top.

On the test score, the F11 Pro scored a total of 1571 points on the single core test and 5844 points on the multi-core test. This is consistent with the score of other mid-range models running Helio P70 chipset such as the Realme U1. In other rumours, the OPPO F11 Pro is expected to pack a 6.5-inch display and will have up to 128 GB storage. The device will also pack a big 4,000 mAh battery under its hood. OPPO is yet to reveal when the device will be launched.

Tmall reveals new devices coming to its stores in March, includes unreleased Huawei Nova 4e and Vivo X27

Tmall, the popular Chinese online retail store has published a list of products that will be available on its site in March. The list is split into multiple categories including mobile phones which has some phones that haven’t launched yet.

First on the list is Vivo’s iQOO flagship smartphone which will launch on March 1. The Snapdragon 855-powered device was seen on TENAA yesterday and its specs include an AMOLED display, triple rear cameras, and an in-display fingerprint scanner. According to Tmall, it will be available in early March.

Next comes Samsung’s new S10 series which launched last week. It is already available for pre-order but you will be able to grab a unit on March 8 according to the online store.

The unreleased Meizu Note 9 is also on the list. Scheduled for a March 6 release, the phone will be available for purchase in mid-March.

While we are already aware of the existence of the other devices, this is the first time we are seeing proof of the Nova 4e’s existence. The Huawei phone will most likely be the name the Huawei P30 Lite will go by in China. It will have a waterdrop display and triple rear cameras and will be available on Tmall in late March.

The last mobile phone listed on the sheet is the Vivo X27. This is the successor to the X23 which launched last September. We don’t know anything yet about the phone but we believe it will come with an improved under-display fingerprint sensor, a more powerful processor, and better cameras. It will be available in late March, so its launch should be a few days before then.
