Vivo has just shared a fresh teaser that showcases one of its upcoming smartphones. The device in question is Vivo Y200 Pro that is set to launch in India soon. The company is bringing an attractive design to this mid-range handset. So let’s have a look.

Vivo Y200 Pro Teaser: Slim yet Curvy

The Chinese brand shared a short video teaser on its official X handle (formerly Twitter). We finally get an official look at the Y200 Pro, showcasing its ultra slim body and curved display. Vivo is claiming that this is the slimmest smartphone with a 3D curved display. Apart from the design, the teaser also showcases one color option of the Vivo Y200 Pro.

This device can be seen in a green color option, with the rear also packing a dual camera setup with an LED flash. These image sensors and flash module is housed in a rectangular camera island. As of right now, the camera specifications of this phone are still unclear. But based on a previous Google Play Console sighting, we know that it will sport an FHD+ display and feature the Snapdragon 695 SoC under the hood.

This chipset is expected to be paired with 8GB of RAM and the device will run on Android 14 OS out of the box. In another report, the price range of the Vivo Y200 Pro was also leaked. The device may launch in the Indian market with a price tag under 25,000 INR. The phone was also previously spotted on BIS and Bluetooth SIG certifications last month, so its launch is right around the corner.

It turns out that Meizu did not quit the smartphone market. Alongside focusing on AI products, the company continues to offer smartphones. The latest of them is the Meizu 21 Note, which is scheduled for a launch in China at 14:30 PM CST today.

However, ahead of the launch, Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station has revealed almost all the key specifications of the device.

The phone equips a 6.78″ flat AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution and 144Hz refresh. It is an 8T LTPO panel that goes up to 5000 nits of peak brightness and also supports 2160Hz high-frequency PWM dimming. The display offers uniform bezels on all four sides. There is an optical fingerprint scanner for unlocking.

However, this phone seems to be a downgrade in terms of performance as it houses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, whereas the Meizu 21 (review) and Meizu 21 Pro, which were launched last year, boast the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The 8 Gen 2 is paired with 16GB of memory. The phone also houses a 5000 mm² VC cooling to sustain heavy workloads. The phone comes with a 5500 mAh battery and supports 66W wired fast charging.

It offers a glass front and back with a metal frame and comes in two different colors – white and black. There is a dual rear camera system on the back with an RGB ring LED flash. According to the tipster, the phone is 8.2mm thick and weighs 205 grams.

Aside from a more capable chipset, the Meizu 21 houses a slightly smaller 6.55″ display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080, a lower 120Hz refresh rate, and also offers a relatively lower 1920Hz PWM dimming, The display goes up to 1800 nits of peak brightness. However, it is available in more color options including smart purple, and sharp blue.

Samsung‘s FE line has been successful with their Galaxy S smartphones, and rumors suggest they might extend it to foldable phones. The FE treatment might not be limited to just phones, either. There are reports that Samsung is planning a smartwatch addition to the FE lineup – the Galaxy Watch FE.

Now, Android Headlines has spotted the latest firmware builds of Galaxy Watch FE on Samsung’s OTA servers. The watch carries the model number SM-R861, which according to the report, is a WiFi-version.

The software version R861XXU0AXE5/R8610XM0AXE5 for the wearable includes the letter “A,” suggesting the first One UI build for the device, and “XE” signifying a May 2024 release of the firmware.

Additionally, the report states the publication has spotted five test builds on the server, suggesting Samsung is actively working on the Watch FE. These test builds also reveal the Wi-Fi variants of the Watch FE will be available in Korea, Europe, and Turkey.

Looking closer at the model number, the Watch FE (SM-R861) closely resembles the Galaxy Watch4 (SM-R860). There are rumors suggesting that the Watch FE will share specs with the Galaxy Watch 4, and this leak further supports this speculation.

Moreover, the smartwatch was previously spotted with model numbers SM-R866F, SM-R866U, and SM-R866N in the IMEI database. This report by Android Headlines suggests those are the LTE variant of the Watch FE.

Historically, FE devices retain the core features of premium counterparts while sacrificing non-essential aspects to bring down costs. The upcoming Galaxy Watch FE will likely follow the trend.

Samsung just rolled out the OneUI 6.1 update for the Galaxy S21 series in India, which added a Galaxy AI feature to the phone. Now the company is rolling out the latest OneUI version to the more affordable Galaxy A54 in the country. Important to mention, that the device has already received the update in a couple of other regions including Europe, the US, and its home country.

The software package is sized 2118MB and carries the firmware version A546EXXU7CXDD. If you have not received a notification regarding the new update yet, you may need to wait a couple of days for the rollout to your device. Meanwhile, you can check the update manually by going to Software Update inside Settings.

New features to the Galaxy A54 with OneUI 6.1

The Galaxy A54 gets a couple of new features with the OneUI 6.1 update. The built-in gallery app now offers you more options while editing images and videos. In addition, now you can add a portrait effect in appropriate wallpapers, use video call effects, change microphone modes, use new lock screen widgets, and get some more customization options and improved battery protection features. However, there isn’t any notable AI feature in this update.

OneUI 6.1 does not offer any Galaxy AI features to the Galaxy A54. For on-device features, it’s not a surprise as the Exynos 1380 chip neither has the raw CPU power nor the neural cores that can run the on-device models. However, it doesn’t offer cloud-based features as well, not even the popular Circle to Search by Google. Nonetheless, the company never promised to offer any Galaxy AI feature to this phone.

OpenAI has developed an amazing text-to-video tool named Sora that can generate realistic video clips based on simple text prompts. However, there has been a question since the launch of this new tool – what data OpenAI used to train the model.

The CTO of OpenAI was asked In an interview if they used YouTube videos to train the model, and she could only say “I’m not sure about it.” Later on, the COO also refused to answer whether the model was trained on content from YouTube. Nonetheless, there are reports claiming that OpenAI has used YouTube videos to train Sora.

In the latest news, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai has responded to the matter saying he will sort it out if the allegations turn out to be true. According to a New York Times report, OpenAI used over a million hours of content from YouTube just to train Sora.

“Look, I think it’s a question for them to answer. I don’t have anything to add. We do have clear terms of service,” noted Sundar Pichai upon being questioned whether the matter is a violation of Google’s terms and conditions. “And so, you know, I think normally in these things we engage with companies and make sure they understand our terms of service. And we’ll sort it out,” he added.

Reportedly, The New York Times has already sued OpenAI for using their copyrighted content on AI training. However, he didn’t reveal how he plans to sort out the matter.

In an ideal scenario, a creator should know and own the right to opt in or out of the use of their content by someone else. The AI training requires a ton of data and it’s likely to be collected from the web, but not without permission. In fact, upon being questioned whether OpenAI used content from YouTube, the company’s COO hinted that alongside building a tool that can detect AI-generated images they are also working on developing “a content ID system for AI that lets creators understand as they create stuff where it’s going, who’s training on it, being able to opt in and out of training”.

Huawei has unveiled the Children’s Watch 5 Pro, the successor to the Children’s Watch 4 Pro. The new Huawei children smartwatch is the first to feature offline positioning 2.0 which allows the device to be located even in the absence of a mobile network. Even when the device has been turned off for up to five days, it can still be located due to the offline positioning feature. The smartwatch is the first to pass the Children’s Safety Guardian Certification in China.

The Huawei Children’s Watch 5 Pro will officially go on sale on May 24 but the company has already begun pre-sales for the product. The smartwatch comes with improved safety protection for the child. It uses an innovative dual-core design and the offline positioning 2.0 function is a major highlight of the model. It is capable of offline positioning without power or network for up to 5 days, underscoring its enhanced safety rating.

The smartwatch is available in several color options including blue and pink. The improved offline position feature will afford parents a greater degree of comfort when their wards are in areas with weak network service or almost flat batteries. It implements 14-fold AI positioning, five-fold satellite positioning, triple-wired positioning, and three-fold auxiliary positioning. It also supports two-level offline positioning and new floor positioning. The model features 200W and 500W front-facing and rear-facing cameras, respectively. It supports 4x digital zoom and video calling is supported for both cameras.

The Huawei Children’s Watch 5 Pro has a built-in 800mAh battery which can last for 24 hours on typical usage. It supports magnetic super fast charging technology and it can be fully recharged in 40 minutes. The Huawei Children’s Watch 5 Pro has a launch price of 1,198 yuan ($166) in China. Huawei has not provided any global availability information yet for the new kid’s smartwatch.

Chinese tech powerhouse Xiaomi is still basking in the impressive success story of its first electric car- the SU7. The company, as we previously reported, has kickstarted its efforts in the development of a second electric vehicle. Multiple reports have surfaced to further illuminate the fact that the smartphone giant is developing a compact electric SUV. Bloomberg (paywalled) is the latest authoritative platform to highlight the development of a second Xiaomi electric vehicle.

The Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan was a huge hit when it debuted in China last year. After it was revealed, Xiaomi recorded more than 50,000 orders within the first 30 minutes of going on sale in China later on. Xiaomi Automotive reported that up to 10,000 units of the SU7 were built within the first 32 days of its production. The Xiaomi sub-brand is on track to deliver 100,000 units of the SU7 by the year’s end.

The Xiaomi SU7 comes with an impressive infotainment system consisting of a 16.1-inch 3K central console and a 56-inch head-up display. The model also features Snapdragon-based infotainment software with enhanced AI capabilities in learning driver and passenger behavior. The SU7 also highlights an almost perfect integration with Xiaomi smartphones and other smart devices.

A recent Bloomberg report says Xiaomi is developing a new model that will take the shape of a compact SUV. The report says that Xiaomi has benchmarked its upcoming model against the Tesla Model Y, and this view has been further stated by other sources. The general specifications, battery setup, and onboard tech that will be featured in the model have not been stated yet. It is however expected that the new Xiaomi compact SUV will build on the innovative aspects of the SU7, including its exciting infotainment architecture.

Xiaomi continues to inch higher in the EV market and it expects further progress with the release of its second model. The model is expected to be released by 2025 at the earliest, but Xiaomi’s production facility is expected to expand beyond its current 10,000 capacity per month. Xiaomi is planning an expansion that will see it delivering up to 300,000 units per year.

The company has now launched a new thin and light laptop in China, called the ‘Extraordinary Go’. Similar to the first one, it is also powered by a 12th-generation Intel Core i5 processor but supports much faster charging and a larger battery capacity. So let’s take a look at what this new laptop has to offer.

A lightweight laptop with 3 different performance modes and 100W adapter

This laptop weighs only 1.49kg, equips a 58Wh battery, and comes with a 100W Gallium Nitride power adapter. According to the company, it offers a theoretical battery life of 8 hours. However, it will vary depending on the usage.

Upon opening the lid you’ll be looking at a 14-inch IPS panel with a 16:10 wide aspect ratio. It comes with a Full HD resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. This allows developers to integrate this accessibility feature into their apps. Users can then control the cursor with facial gestures or head movements, such as opening their mouth to move the cursor or raising eyebrows to click and drag.

Project Gameface utilizes the device camera and a facial expressions database

Project Gameface, originally announced for desktops at last year’s Google I/O, uses the device’s camera and a database of facial expressions from MediaPipe’s Face Landmarks Detection API to manipulate the cursor.

“Through the device’s camera, it seamlessly tracks facial expressions and head movements, translating them into intuitive and personalized control,” explained Google in its announcement. “Developers can now build applications where their users can configure their experience by customizing facial expressions, gesture sizes, cursor speed, and more.”

While initially designed for gamers, Google has partnered with Incluzza, a social enterprise focused on accessibility in India, to explore expanding Gameface to other settings like work, school, and social situations.

The inspiration for Project Gameface came from quadriplegic video game streamer Lance Carr, who has muscular dystrophy. Carr collaborated with Google on the project with the goal of creating a more affordable and accessible alternative to expensive head-tracking systems.

Samsung’s prototype QD-LED panel measures 18.2 inches, ideal for large laptops, with a resolution of 3200×1800 and a pixel density of 202PPI. This panel utilizes inkjet printing for large-area pixel patterning, significantly improving production efficiency.

Samsung’s environmentally friendly QD-LED panel avoids traditional cadmium compound quantum dots and relies on a cadmium-free process. Notably, the related paper received the prestigious “Annual Outstanding Paper Award” from SID.
