A court decision in Germany has temporarily blocked Acer and ASUS from selling certain PCs directly in the country, following a patent dispute with Nokia.

The ruling comes from the Munich I Regional Court, which sided with Nokia in a case involving standard-essential patents (SEPs) tied to the H.265/HEVC video codec. HEVC is widely used for compressing high-resolution video, including 4K and 8K playback, and is built into modern processors and graphics systems.

According to the court, Acer and ASUS were found to have infringed Nokia’s patents without securing licenses on FRAND (fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory) terms. As a result, the court granted Nokia an injunction. That means the two PC makers cannot import, sell, or distribute affected devices directly in Germany, at least for now.

What’s affected?

Because HEVC support is deeply integrated into current hardware and software stacks, the decision potentially covers most recent laptop and desktop models from both companies. Acer has already removed PCs from its German online store, leaving only accessories such as monitors available. ASUS has similarly restricted parts of its German website, with some product pages offline or marked as unavailable.

Both companies have said the move is tied to the temporary injunction. They’ve also stressed that warranties, repairs, and customer service in Germany are continuing as normal.

The injunction applies to the manufacturers themselves, not to third-party retailers. That means stores like Amazon, MediaMarkt, and other electronics chains can continue selling devices already in inventory.

However, once current stock runs out, replenishing it could become difficult unless the dispute is resolved or a licensing agreement is reached.

Nokia filed patent lawsuits in 2025 against Acer, ASUS, and Hisense over HEVC-related intellectual property. Hisense later reached a licensing agreement with Nokia, leading to the claims against it being withdrawn.

Acer and ASUS have not settled so far and are expected to pursue appeals. Licensing negotiations may still be ongoing behind the scenes.

The Nitro 70 is powered by up to an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 GPU. It supports up to 128 GB DDR5 RAM at 6000 MT/s with RGB lighting, and storage options include up to 2 TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD and 4 TB HDD. Cooling combines Acer’s CycloneX 360 airflow system with a 360 mm liquid CPU cooler. The 45L chassis incorporates tempered glass, ARGB lighting, and 65 percent post-consumer recycled plastics.

The Nitro 50 features up to an AMD Ryzen 7 8700G processor and NVIDIA RTX 5080 GPU. Like the Nitro 70, it supports up to 128 GB DDR5 memory, although at 5200 MT/s. Storage options remain the same, and the CycloneX 360 system handles cooling without liquid assistance. The Nitro 50 comes with an 850 W power supply compared to the Nitro 70’s 1200 W.

Both desktops include Wi-Fi 7, 2.5G Ethernet, DTS:X Ultra audio, and multiple USB, HDMI, and DisplayPort connections. They also support Acer Intelligence Space, which provides AI-based tools for gaming and productivity.

In addition to the desktops, Acer also revealed the Nitro V 16 and Nitro V 16S laptops with Intel Core 9 processors and RTX 50 GPUs for portable gaming, and four Nitro monitors offering a range of 4K, 5K, and curved display options.

Pricing and Availability

The Acer Nitro 70 (N70X3D-100) will be available in EMEA in December starting at EUR 1,999. Details for the Nitro 50 (N50-100) have not yet been confirmed.

The Nitro V 16 is powered by up to an Intel Core 9 270H processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU. The RTX 50 Series uses NVIDIA’s Blackwell architecture and supports DLSS 4, neural rendering, and NVIDIA Studio tools. NVIDIA NIM microservices are included for AI workflows. Intel Application Optimization is also supported, managing resources to improve efficiency.

Cooling is handled by a dual-fan system with quad-intake and quad-exhaust vents. Both laptops run Windows 11 Home, include a MUX switch, Intel Killer networking, and NitroSense v5.0 for cooling control.

The Nitro V 16 and V 16S launch alongside Acer’s new Nitro 70 and Nitro 50 desktops, as well as four new Nitro monitors that include 4K, 5K, WQHD, and ultra-wide curved options. At IFA 2025, Acer has added four new models to its Nitro monitor lineup. The Nitro XV275K V6, Nitro XV273U W1, Nitro XV270X, and Nitro XZ403CKR provide high refresh rates, accurate color reproduction, and a range of resolutions for different gamer requirements.

The Nitro XV275K V6 is a 27-inch 4K UHD panel with 180 Hz refresh rate, 1 ms VRB Pro response, and AMD FreeSync Premium. It reaches 1,000 nits peak brightness with HDR10 support and covers 97 percent of the DCI-P3 color gamut. Connectivity includes dual HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 inputs.

The Nitro XV273U W1 uses a 27-inch WQHD panel with an overclockable 275 Hz refresh rate and 1 ms VRB Pro response. It is VESA DisplayHDR 500-certified with peak brightness of 500 nits and covers 95 percent of DCI-P3. It includes dual 2W speakers and multiple ports for input flexibility.

The Nitro XV270X is a 27-inch display that delivers 5K resolution at 72 Hz or 144 Hz in DFR mode at 2560×1440. It features a 2,000:1 contrast ratio, 95 percent DCI-P3 coverage, 1 ms VRB response, and dual 2W speakers.

The Nitro XZ403CKR is the largest in the lineup with a 39.7-inch curved 1000R VA panel. It provides 5K WUHD resolution at 180 Hz and supports DFR up to 288 Hz at WFHD resolution. Response times are 1 ms VRB and 0.5 ms GTG. It features dual 5W speakers, USB-C with 90 W power delivery, and AMD FreeSync Premium.

Acer Iconia A14

As the name suggests, the Iconia A14 sports a tall 14-inch IPS LCD panel with a FHD resolution, a 16:10 aspect ratio, and the ZeroFrame design. Acer offers this large display for daily use in mind. From watching media to browsing the web or scrolling through social media, the tablet was designed with a focus on a large screen real estate. This is more apparent considering how you get an integrated kickstand and screen casting feature, allowing it to double as a secondary screen.

The same 8,000mAh battery and 10 hour battery life claim returns on this model. Other similarities include the 8MP camera on the rear, a 5MP selfie shooter, Android 15 OS out of the box, Bluetooth 5.4, WiFi 6, dual USB Type-C ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack, quad speakers, and design elements also remain unchanged in the taller variant. The Vapor Silver is the only color option, and the Iconia A16 measures a hefty 980 grams, nearly as heavy as a thin-and-light notebook.

Both tablets arrive with AI powered tools like AI Super Resolution for video upscaling and AI Smart Sensing for better gesture controls. The brand has now revealed the pricing details with the Iconia A14 starting from 300 US Dollars or 260 Euros, while the Iconia A16 is going on sale for 340 US Dollars or 300 Euros. Acer Iconia X12

The Acer Iconia X12 is the smaller model, sporting a 12.6-inch AMOLED display that has a 60Hz refresh rate, a 16:10 aspect ratio, 400 nits of peak brightness, and a 2.5K resolution (2560 x 1600p). Under the hood, it is equipped with the MediaTek Helio G99 SoC, which is paired with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. So, the brand isn’t bringing any upgrade over the Iconia X12 tablet that debuted back in 2024.

A sizeable 8,000mAh battery pack powers this device, which Acer claims can offer up to 16 hours of battery life. For photography, the tablet features a 13MP camera on the rear, while the front houses a 5MP shooter for selfies and video calls. This model was announced with various accessories, including a magnetic kickstand and a detachable keyboard. There are also AI powered tools like AI Super Resolution for video upscaling and AI Smart Sensing for gesture controls.

Other notable features include Android 15 OS out of the box, quad speakers, a microSD card slot with up to 1TB of storage expansion, dual band WiFi, and Bluetooth 5.2. At this size, the tablet can basically double as a portable thin-and-light laptop. The large OLED screen makes it great for media consumption, browsing, and productivity based tasks. This model is equipped with the Allwiner A733 chip, which features an NPU that brings AI powered features to the tablet, like AI smart Sensing, AI Super Resolution, and more.

The chip is coupled with 8GB of RAM and up to 256Gb of internal storage. Users can also expand the storage via a microSD card slot on this model as well. You get an 8MP camera on the rear and a 5MP selfie shooter on the front. The Acer Iconia X14 houses a large 8,000mAh cell, runs on the Android 15 OS, packs a quad stereo speakers, along with support for dual band WiFi and Bluetooth 5.4.

Pricing and Availability

Acer will kick off the sales for both the Iconia X14 and Iconia X12 later this year, in November. The Iconia X12 will have a starting price tag of 320 US Dollars or 280 Euros, while the Iconia X14 will start from 350 US Dollars or 260 Euros.

Running on Google TV, the Advance G Series offers access to apps, content, and controls through a simple interface. Acer has launched two new gaming laptops in India, the Predator Helios Neo 16 AI and Predator Helios Neo 16S AI. Both laptops are built for gaming and content creation and come with AI features, high-end hardware, and Windows 11 Home.

The Predator Helios Neo 16 AI has a standard gaming laptop design, while the Neo 16S AI is Acer’s slimmest Predator laptop yet, with a thickness of under 18.9mm.

Both models are powered by Intel Core Ultra 9 processors and support up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPUs. They include DLSS 4, 4th Gen Ray Tracing, and NVIDIA Reflex 2 to improve visuals and reduce input lag. AI NPUs handle tasks like background blur, audio effects, and image generation.

The Helios Neo 16 AI features a 16-inch WQXGA IPS display with a 240Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, 500 nits brightness, and 100 percent DCI-P3 color coverage. It includes 32GB DDR5 RAM, expandable to 64GB, and 2TB PCIe Gen4 SSD storage split into two 1TB drives. It comes with up to an RTX 4070 GPU. The laptop has a 90Wh battery, a 230W power adapter, and a 1080p HD webcam with Temporal Noise Reduction. The keyboard has 4-zone RGB lighting and a numeric keypad. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, HDMI 2.1, Thunderbolt 4, USB Type-C, and Ethernet. It comes in Abyssal Black.

The Helios Neo 16S AI features a 16-inch OLED WQXGA display with 240Hz refresh rate, 400 nits brightness, 100 percent DCI-P3, and True Black HDR 500. It is available with Intel Core Ultra 7 255HX or Ultra 9 275HX processors, 16GB or 32GB DDR5 RAM (upgradable to 64GB), and 1TB PCIe Gen4 SSD, upgradable to 2TB. GPU options go up to the RTX 5070 Ti. It includes a 76Wh battery, a 230W adapter, 1080p webcam, and RGB backlit keyboard with a numeric pad. The laptop supports Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, USB 3.2, HDMI, and USB Type-C.

Both models come with PredatorSense software to control performance, lighting, and fan settings, along with a dedicated Copilot key for AI features.

Acer Swift Lite 14 Specifications

The Acer Swift Lite 14 runs on Windows 11 Home and supports AI-powered tools through Microsoft Copilot. It includes a dedicated Copilot key on the keyboard for quick access to AI features. The laptop is powered by up to Intel Core Ultra 5 115U processors with Intel’s AI Boost NPU.

The laptop sports a 14-inch WUXGA (1920×1200) display and is available in OLED and IPS variants. The OLED model supports 100% DCI-P3 color coverage and has an 87% screen-to-body ratio. The display uses a 16:10 aspect ratio and supports a 180-degree hinge, allowing the laptop to lay flat for collaborative use.

At COMPUTEX 2025, Acer has announced five new monitors aimed at different types of users, from competitive gamers to casual streamers and professionals. The lineup includes two high-end Predator QD-OLED models, two Nitro Google TV monitors for entertainment and gaming, and one portable 4K display for users who need mobility.

Predator X27U F5 – 500 Hz for Competitive Gaming

The Predator X27U F5 is a 26.5-inch QD-OLED monitor with a resolution of 2560×1440 (WQHD) and a 500 Hz refresh rate. It has a 0.03 ms response time (GTG) and supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro to reduce screen tearing. It’s VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 500 certified and has a 1,500,000:1 contrast ratio, with peak brightness of 1000 nits in HDR mode.

The display supports 99% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and is factory-calibrated to Delta E<2 color accuracy. The Taiwanese tech giant just announced a series of new cutting edge PCs. But that’s not all, Acer also announced a pair of new entry level tablets, namely the Iconia V12 and Iconia V11. The Iconia V12 sports a tall 12-inch LCD panel with a 2K resolution, 16:10 aspect ratio, and 90Hz refresh rate.

On the other hand, the V11 has an 11-inch LCD display with a FHD+ resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, and 16:10 aspect ratio. Apart from this, the latest V12 and V11 are identical to one another. Under the hood, the new Iconia tablets are equipped with the MediaTek Helio G99 SoC, which is paired with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. Users can even expand storage by up to 1TB via a microSD card slot.

For optics, the rear has an 8MP shooter, while the front has a 5MP selfie camera. A massive 8000mAh battery pack powers the Iconia V12 and V11, which promises up to 10 hours of battery life. Acer has just announced a bunch of new PCs with cutting edge hardware. The Acer Predator Orion 3000 is a desktop PC, while the Predator Helios Neo 14 AI and Predator Triton 15 AI are powerful gaming laptops. But alongside these models, the company has also unveiled Aspire 16 AI laptops that offer impressively long battery life across latest gen Intel, AMD, and Snapdragon platforms. Acer Aspire 16 AI launch: What makes it special?

Acer has built the Aspire 16 AI with new and efficient processors that promise great battery life while not compromising on performance. The Intel variant arrived with up to a Core Ultra 7 258V, which is paired with Intel Arc graphics. Acer promises up to 26 hours of battery life on this model. Meanwhile, the AMD option features either the Ryzen AI 7 350 or Ryzen AI 5 340 processors. This is coupled with Radeon 860M and Radeon 840M, respectively.

Lastly, there is the ARM based Snapdragon version which includes the Snapdragon X platform. The most notable aspect of this model is its impressively long battery life of 27 hours. The new Aspire 16 AI sports a tall 16-inch OLED WUXGA+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 500 nits of peak brightness. Although, the Qualcomm option skips the OLED display for an LCD WUXGA panel that can be opted with 100 percent sRGB or 45 percent NTSC color gamut.

All Aspire 16 AI laptop can be paired with up to 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB of PCIe Gen4 SSD storage. These also support microSD expansion. A sizeable 65Wh battery pack powers this model. Connectivity options include USB 3.2 Type-A, USB-C, HDMI 2.1, a MicroSD slot, and WiFi 6E/7. Acer Aspire 16 AI runs on Windows 11 OS, with the AMD options featuring Microsoft’s Pluton security chip and facial recognition. The Snapdragon variant gets the basic Windows Hello.

Other notable AI powered features include PurifiedVoice, LiveArt, and Copilot+ Hotkey. Acer is set to launch the Aspire 16 AI in the Snapdragon option in July for a starting price tag of 749 Euros. The Orion 3000 has up to 32 GB of DDR5 5600 MHz RAM. Storage includes a 2 TB NVMe PCIe Gen 4 SSD and an optional 2 TB 7200 RPM HDD. It fits into a 28-liter case with mesh panels for airflow and a tempered glass side panel.

Cooling is handled by front and rear 120 mm RGB-lit system fans, which work with a mesh-lined chassis and tempered glass side panels to maintain airflow and reduce heat buildup.
