LG exited the mobile phone business earlier this year, promising some support for its devices for a limited period. That support might soon be coming to an end as LG announced that they would be shutting down the bootloader unlock program for their devices.

For those unaware, the bootloader on an Android smartphone is the tool that loads the system. Most Android devices lock the bootloader to prevent unofficial software from being installed by default. However, it can also be unlocked to allow just that.

Android users have enjoyed the freedom to tinker with their phones. The developers, in particular, have managed to achieve some amazing feats like prolonging a phone’s life way beyond what the OEMs intended; this is thanks to ‘custom Roms’ and third-party updates. LG has always helped developers innovate by providing a streamlined process to unlock their bootloaders via the bootloader unlock keys. But, the company has announced that it will be shutting down this service effective December 31st, 2021.

This will leave any LG smartphone users who wish to extend the life of their device in a tight spot. But we can hope that the talented developers in the Android community will come up with a workaround to unlock the bootloader of these LG devices.

These instructions show you how to install them safely and effectively. It is especially important for beginners to read instructions carefully to prevent failure or loss of data, but provided some care is taken, it is not a difficult task and enables you to get so much more out of your device.

Things you need to do and have:

• Your phone must be rooted. If it is not rooted then use framaroot and root your phone before undertaking any customisation.
• You must have full backup of your current or stock ROM. This is helpful if you donot liked the custom ROM and you want to revert back. Then just reflash the backup. To take backup of current or stock ROM the easiest method is to install CWM from here for your MTK device very easily and then create backup. Backup is important in case there is a problem with the new installation or if you dislike the custom interface and want to revert to the stock one.

Here goes then, here’s how to do it.

Method 1. Using MobileUncle MTK Tools ( Level : Easy)

• First of all install Mobileuncle MTK Tools from the above link on your phone.

• Select update option and the device will automatically find the zip file located on your SD card.

• Then select the ROM and tap on ‘Analysis Update Package End’ and wait for Mobileuncle to do its job.
• Your phone will automatically restart after completion and there you have it, you’re good to go with the Custom ROM.

Method 2. Using CWM which you installed on your MTK phone from our previous post. Slightly more difficult approach but fine for users with a bit of experience.

• Boot into CWM recovery by two ways : 1. Power on + volume down 2. Using Mobile MTK tools select ‘Boot into recovery’
• Now first of all Wipe your current system data and then wipe the cache, found in the ‘Wipe’ Section
• Then tap on Install Update from Zip file

• Select ‘zip from SD card’
• Browse to find and tap to select the custom ROM
• Once the installation completes you will need to reboot your device
• Enjoy!

The CyanogenMod 11 or also called as CM11 is built based on Android 4.4 KitKat, this system has ben launched for long time, the new version and update has been released for new features, more stability and bug fixes.

Recently, CyanogenMod team has officially released CM11 M7 version, this version is known as the most reliable, most stable CM11, fixes some previously existing Bug, and improved in low memory (512MB) experience on the device.

The new CM11 M7 will also be based on the final version for Android 4.4.2, starting from the next version of M8 will be adapted based on Android 4.4.3, but the initial stability may be better to version M7.

CyanogenMod website currently has a list of about 30 models can be upgraded to CM11 M7 Edition, while the other devices will continue to be released in the near future.
