Last week, Krafton officially teased the comeback of BGMI to India after the popular battle royale game was banned by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in response to requests from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) back in July 2022.

Now, the game has finally made its return to the Google Play Store with the announcement coming from the official Twitter handle of Battlegrounds Mobile India. Interestingly, the game is not visible to many users who are searching for it directly on the Play Store. However, if you visit the official page, you will easily be directed to the Play Store download page.

The game is still on the 2.1.0 version which was released back in July 2022, and the servers are not live yet, however, it is likely that Krafton will push the new patch as soon as the servers go live.

It is crucial to acknowledge that Krafton will face careful monitoring by the Indian government, ensuring the game’s compliance with the law and proposed requirements for a duration of three months. If the government finds the game in violation of any of the proposed conditions, a ban is likely to follow. Let’s take a look at what these conditions are.

Initially, players were provided the option to change the blood color to green or blue during the game’s launch as a substitute for PUBG Mobile India. However, it appears that a new default color will be implemented instead of red.

BGMI will likely return to Indian market very soon: Report

Just a couple of weeks ago, Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) was promptly removed from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store in India. The game was apparently getting the ban hammer under the same law that removed PUBG Mobile from the region. However, it appears that this decision might be reversed soon.

The news arrives from Maxtern, who shared the information on Twitter. Looking at his tweet, he claims that the popular battle royale title has a high possibility of coming back to the Indian market soon. So far, there have already been influencers that have shared their optimism regarding the mobile game’s return. But this social media post claims that it is almost guaranteed to return.

For those unaware, Krafton’s Indian version of PUBG Mobile was recently removed from the app stores in the country, which raised major concerns regarding the entire esports scene surrounding the game. Apart from this, content creators, professional players, and many other were also affected by its delisting. However, the Indian government has yet to offer any official statement regarding this matter.

Maxtern is a content creator for Team Godlike and his tweet reads that “According to the sources, BGMI has a high chance of coming back soon!” As of right now, it is still unclear if the game will actually be returning to app stores in the country. Krafton offers to cooperate with Indian govt to resolve BGMI ban

Late last month, India banned Krafton’s Battlegrounds Mobile (BGMI) game in accordance with Section 69A of the country’s IT law. Meanwhile, Krafton, the developer of Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), announced on Thursday that it is working closely with Indian authorities in response to the ban on the country’s most popular Battle Royale game, which has over 100 million users.

Kraft CFO Bae Dong-geun stated during the company’s quarterly results call that the company appreciates and understands the Indian government’s concern. After the government ordered Google and Apple to prohibit BGMI from their respective App stores, a few gaming companies wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking for “fair treatment” to support the development of the nation’s gaming ecosystem.

“In the second quarter, we increased paid content offerings, extended offline cooperation in the local market, and widened the user base to deliver a battle royale experience exclusive to BGMI,” Dong-geun added.

The ban from last week has forced the postponement of the second season of the Esports Premier League (ESPL). There have been rumors that the ban was imposed because of a “China connection.” Addressing this situation, Bae Dong-geun said “We have been directly running the service based on stringent data security standards and monitoring. We will closely cooperate with the authorities to find ways for the users in India to keep enjoying BGMI”.

BGMI ban: a comment on the dilemma of the youth, national security or social prosperity?

The popular battle-royale game Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) was banned as a result of a report from a central intelligence agency and a message from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity).

The report discussed offenses that could lead to cyber dangers by gathering user data for the purpose of conducting targeted cyberattacks against Indian users.

A senior government official claims that although the application has other problems, the biggest issue was that it was talking to servers that are either directly or indirectly situated in China. Other apps that have “rebranded” have also been confirmed by sources to be connecting with Chinese servers and are under investigation. After several iterations of study by the Indian officials, the government requested Google to delete the application from the Play Store.

According to News18, a senior government official on the condition of anonymity said, “The analysis also showed that this application has malicious code and also acquires a host of critical permissions, which could be misused for compromising user data for surveillance through camera/microphone, location tracking, and malicious network activities.”

The official added that such apps are a risk to India’s security grid and have the potential to harm the country’s sovereignty and integrity.

Although the official decision to ban BGMI from India has not yet been issued, MeitY has asked the affected companies to remove it from app marketplaces like Google Play and App Store. Following Krafton’s presentation of its case, a final conclusion regarding a complete ban is still impending.

According to the developer, efforts are being made to revive the game. The South Korean video game developer and distributor, recently released a statement in which it expressed its commitment to the Indian market and its optimism about the potential there. “At KRAFTON, the security and privacy of our user data are of utmost importance to us. We have always been compliant with all the laws and regulations in India, including data protection laws and regulations, and will continue abiding by them.”

The report adds that a number of Chinese apps have rebranded themselves to circumvent the ban in India. They don’t have any servers in India and gather sensitive information like ‘location and audio’.

While BGMI was supposed to be a dedicated game for the Indian market and crossed over 100 million users in a year, clearly, the Indian government is still not happy with how the app is processing user data.

Altogether, the ban seems like a decent way to go if Krafton is unable to deliver a solid case for themselves. However, if the India-dedicated version comes out from the abyss, we shall see a revival of hope for the youth to socialize and entertain once again.

BGMI banned under same law that was used to ban other Chinese apps

Just yesterday, we had reported on Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) being mysteriously removed from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. Krafton had launched the game as an India exclusive title after the local government had banned the original PUBG Mobile.

For those unaware, the Indian government had banned PUBG Mobile and hundred other Chinese applications citing risk to national security as the reason. Since then, BGMI was launched to be an Indian exclusive version of the popular battle royale title. However now, it seems that even this version is being banned from the Indian market. Google in an official statement had previously stated that “On receipt of the order, following established process, we have notified the affected developer and have blocked access to the app that remained available on the Play Store in India.”

Now, MySmartPrice contacted Krafton regarding the entire situation. The company responded to this by saying that “We are clarifying how BGMI was removed from Google Play and will let you know once we get specific information.” Apparently, the reason for the game’s removal has yet to be officially revealed, but a Reuters report has suggested that BGMI was banned Under Section 69A of IT Law.

This was the same law under which other Chinese apps were banned in the past. As of right now, the game is not available for download on either Play Store or App Store. However, for those users that already have the game installed on their smartphones can still play the game at the moment since the servers are still active in the region. Earlier today, the popular battle royale game Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) got removed from the Google Playstore and Apple App store. The reason behind the removal isn’t clear as of yet. However, the reports related to the matter point toward a ban.

Why did BGMI get removed from Play Store and App Store in India?

The company behind BGMI, Krafton, has commented on the matter saying we are clarifying how BGMI was removed from Google Play and will let you know once we get specific information.”

On the other hand, Google has said that it has removed the game from the Play Store on ‘receipt of the order.’ The search giant has also stated that “following established process, we have notified the affected developer and have blocked access to the app that remained available on the Play Store in India.”

In a recent statement, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar noted that PUBG was banned in India in 2020, but banned apps have been resurfacing in new avatars. It is quite clear that this is a reference to BGMI, which is a re-skinned version of PUGB Mobile.

With multiple ministers pushing for a ban on BGMI in India, the recent incident of a 16-year-old shooting and killing his mother over an alleged argument about online games like PUBG could have been the last straw that broke the camel’s back and forced the government to silently ban BGMI in the country. BGMI won’t get banned in India: PIL update

Recently, a public interest litigation was filed in Telangana High Court in February seeking the ban of mobile gaming app Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI).

The PIL which was filed by Advocate Anil Stevenson Jangam, called for the ban of the extremely popular battle royale title, claiming that the game was essentially just PUBG Mobile under a different name, ‘BGMI’.

The PIL claimed that the earlier banned ‘PUBG Mobile’ and ‘BGMI’ are essentially the same applications and it also stated that Tencent and publisher Krafton had employed the process of front companies to hide the app’s Chinese ties and hoodwink Indian Authorities.

For those unaware, the game PUBG was banned in India citing Chinese ties specifically its publisher Tencent which is one of the biggest game companies in the world, based in China.

The game was re-launched under the name, Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) after the ban with a few changes by the South Korean publisher Krafton in India.

In response to the PIL, the representative of (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology) MeitY N. Samaya Balan responded to Telangana High court and assured the public that the two apps ‘PUBG Mobile’ and ‘BGMI’ are different. The affidavit filed by Balan confirmed that the two applications – ‘PUBG Mobile’ and ‘BGMI’ are not, in fact, the same app. The affidavit later also explained that only the government has the ability and power to restrict computer access.

The response by Meity towards the PIL on BGMI suggests that the game will not be banned any time in the future.
