This screen is protected by UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) instead of polyimide film. However, the external 5,45-inch OLED panel comes from BOE.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Further, the internal folding screen supports up to a 120Hz refresh rate. Despite that, it consumes less energy as it utilizes LTPO  (Low Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) TFT (Thin Film Transistor).</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Up until now, </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Samsung/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Samsung</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> Electronics has been the sole OEM to offer UTG and LTPO tech in its foldables. <p><span style="font-weight: 400">The report further notes that even </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Xiaomi/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Xiaomi</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> and </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/vivo/"><span style="font-weight: 400">vivo</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> will use Samsung Display-supplied panels for their upcoming foldables. <p><span style="font-weight: 400">The forthcoming Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 is said to arrive with an 8.01-inch OLED foldable panel with UTG from Samsung Display. However, the external 6.52-inch OLED screen will be from </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/TCL/"><span style="font-weight: 400">TCL</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> CSOT.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Lastly, vivo will use a Samsung Display panel for the internal screen and a </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/BOE/"><span style="font-weight: 400">BOE</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> panel for the external screen. <p><span style="font-weight: 400">According to a report by </span><a href="http://www.thelec.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=14674"><i><span style="font-weight: 400">The Elec</span></i></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> (via </span><a href="https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsung-using-chinese-oled-displays-galaxy-a73/"><span style="font-weight: 400">SamMobile</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">), Samsung Electronics is testing OLED panels from three different suppliers for the Galaxy A73. One of them is unsurprisingly Samsung Display. Whereas, the other two are China-based BOE and TCL CSOT.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">This is not the first time Samsung is testing Chinese displays for its phones. Last year, </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/TCL/"><span style="font-weight: 400">TCL</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> CSOT </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/15/galaxy-m41-will-feature-6-67-inch-fhd-tcl-csot-flexible-oled-panel/"><span style="font-weight: 400">became</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> the sole supplier of OLED displays for the Galaxy M41. However, for unknown reasons, this phone was shelved and replaced with Galaxy M51 featuring a panel from Samsung Display.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Anyway, CSOT managed to supply panes in a low quantity for certain legacy models of the Galaxy M series this year. On the other hand, Samsung tested </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/BOE/"><span style="font-weight: 400">BOE</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">-made displays for the Galaxy S21. But unfortunately, the deal did not go through due to undesired quality.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The two Chinese display makers are back again for </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Galaxy-A73/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Galaxy A73</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">, Nonetheless, only time will tell if they will be successful in inking a deal this time around. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">For those who are wondering, </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Samsung/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Samsung</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> Electronics has been trying to broaden its supply chain partners for quite a while now. </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Samsung-Display/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Samsung Display </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">has been the sole supplier of OLED panels for Samsung Galaxy smartphones for more than 10 years.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The South Korean electronics giant wants to reduce its dependency on Samsung Display for OLED panels. By opting for displays from other manufacturers, the company could get them at a cheaper price. The firm could not only make a profit out of this move but could also pass down this as a benefit to customers by lowering the price.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">As far as Galaxy A73 is concerned, the device will reportedly be the first Samsung mid-range smartphone with an OIS-equipped 108P primary camera.</span></p>

Similarly, CPT China reported a Net Profit despite an operating loss for the said quarter.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-202562" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/BOE-logo.jpg?x10805" alt="BOE logo" width="705" height="470" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/BOE-logo.jpg 705w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/BOE-logo-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 705px) 100vw, 705px" /></p>
<p>According to the report(via <a href="http://www.thelec.net/news/articleView.html?idxno=1921">TheElec</a>), the industry revenues for Display sit at $30.5 billion for Q3 2020. This is reportedly a 21% QoQ, and 11% YoY increase. Apparently, this is an all-time high since Q4 2017, and DSCC believes that an increase in <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/LCD-Panel">LCD TV panel</a> prices is the reason. In terms of revenue share, Samsung leads the pack yet again but Chinese companies like <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/BOE">BOE</a> and <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/CSOT">CSOT</a> managed to grab a place in the top 10. This development comes at a time when China&#8217;s display panel sales are <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/16/china-south-korea-display-panel-market/">expected to reach $42.5 million</a> in 2020.</p>
<p>In fact, BOE outperforms <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/LG-Display">LG display</a> in the overall revenue share to take the second spot. These two are the only non-Samsung companies to have double-digit shares. That said, the list has others like AUO, Innolux, CSOT, and Sharp who&#8217;s share percentages are between 5-8%. Besides, the Gross profits of display panels, as per the report, has grown 106% QoQ(Quarter over Quarter) from Q2.</p>
<figure id="attachment_356546" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-356546" style="width: 1400px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-356546 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/dscc-q3-2020-display-panel-revenue.png?x10805" alt="Q3 2020 Display Panel Revenue" width="1400" height="845" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/dscc-q3-2020-display-panel-revenue.png 1400w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/dscc-q3-2020-display-panel-revenue-300x181.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/dscc-q3-2020-display-panel-revenue-768x464.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/dscc-q3-2020-display-panel-revenue-1024x618.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/dscc-q3-2020-display-panel-revenue-696x420.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/dscc-q3-2020-display-panel-revenue-1068x645.png 1068w" sizes="(max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-356546" class="wp-caption-text">Credit: DSCC</figcaption></figure>
<p>Precisely, the Gross profits(profit-making &amp; selling costs) of Q3 2020 are at $2.7 billion which is a 182% YoY(Year on Year) growth compared to 2019. Accordingly, every panel maker except <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/CPT-China">CPT China</a> reports positive gross margins in Q3. However, as mentioned earlier, CPT China reported a net profit albeit having operating loss.</p>
<p>That is, it gained close to $211 million by selling long term assets. This meant that the entire industry(except Samsung, CSOT, <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Sharp-Display">Sharp</a>) posted a net profit of $545 million in Q3 2020. As per the report, this is a first after losses for seven consecutive quarters in the industry. Also in terms of area shipments, BOE is very close to LG with a shipment of 8.1 million square meters followed by Innolux, and CSOT.</p>
<p>In any case, China is trying hard to overpower the South Korean counterpart at least in the LCD segment. The recent acquisition of fabs by <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/28/boe-acquires-cec-panda-lcd-strengthens-display-tech/">BOE</a>, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/CSOT">CSOT</a> from CEC-Panda and Samsung respectively in China means it will likely have 28% of the World’s Large-sized panel capacity. As a result, it will probably hold <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/27/china-will-soon-hold-70-of-total-lcd-panel-production-capacity-in-the-world-report/">70% of Global LCD panels production</a> capacity soon.</p>

<p>The development comes after the company outbid its rival to take over the control of two fabs &#8212; one 8.5G and another 8.6G from CEC-Panda LCD Technology.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-298356 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/BOE.jpg?x10805" alt="BOE " width="705" height="470" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/BOE.jpg 705w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/BOE-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/BOE-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/BOE-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 705px) 100vw, 705px" /></p>
<p>As per the report, the difference in capacity is there even though CSOT has signed a deal to over the control of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung-display">Samsung Display</a>&#8216;s 8.5G line in Suzhou, China. This is because the combined capacity of CEC-Panda&#8217;s two fabs is higher than that of Samsung&#8217;s fab.</p>
<p>The two fabs of CEC-Panda has a total production capacity of 12.71 million square meters for the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/lcd">LCD panels</a> per year, which is higher than the capacity of 8.58 million square meters of Samsung Display&#8217;s plant in China.</p>
<p style="text-align: center"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000">EDITOR&#8217;S PICK:</span> </strong><a title="Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 with under-display camera likely to offer full screen experience" href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/06/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-3-with-under-display-camera-likely-to-offer-full-screen-experience/" rel="bookmark"><strong>Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 with under-display camera likely to offer a full-screen experience</strong></a></p>
<p>Samsung Display sold its line to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/csot">CSOT</a> because the South Korean giant is withdrawing from the LCD panels segment. On the other hand, CEC-Panda was forced to sell its two plants because of the heavy losses.</p>
<p>These two Chinese companies are claimed to be the only two companies out of the world&#8217;s top six LCD panel suppliers to have witnessed growth in revenue in H1 2020. With the newly-added capacity, the companies are now expected to take up the leading spot for the supply of large-size LCD panels next year.</p>
<p>BOE Technology held a sizeable 21.1 percent of the global large-sized panel capacity in the market, which would be further boosted by the recent <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/acquisition">acquisitions</a>. By the end of 2021, the company is expected to hold more than a quarter of the world’s large-sized panel capacity, coming in at 28 percent.</p>

<p>The curved AMOLED 6.67-inch screen not only has a 120Hz refresh rate but is a 10-bit panel that is capable of displaying over 1 billion colors. The only other devices, as far as I can remember, that launched this year that are capable of displaying such impressive colors are the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-find-x2-pro/">OPPO Find X2 Pro</a> and the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-8-pro/">OnePlus 8 Pro</a>.</p>
<p>While the display of the Find X2 Pro and the OnePlus 8 Pro is supplied by <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> Display, it has been revealed that the one used in the Mi 10 Ultra was supplied by <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/TCL">TCL&#8217;s</a> display subsidiary, China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT). The info was revealed on Weibo by the manufacturer itself.</p>

<p>Fact &#8211; the Find X2 Pro doesn&#8217;t use a true 10-bit panel like that of the Mi 10 Ultra. Actually, it uses a combination of 8-bit color depth and a 2-bit dither algorithm to achieve 1.07 billion colors.</p>

The displays were on exhibition at the second International Display Expo (UDE2020) held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center.</p>
<p>One of the displays is a 32-inch curved gaming monitor. It has a 240Hz refresh rate and has support for Free-Sync and G-Sync. It has a curvature if R1500 and meets VESA&#8217;s HDR 1400 certification requirement.</p>

<p>CSOT also showcased a 10.8-inch LCD display with a 240Hz refresh rate. The screen has a punch hole at the top left corner and a resolution of 2560 x 1600. <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/TCL">TCL</a> says it also has a 2ms touch response speed. The display should be great for high-performance tablets with a powerful processor and pretty large battery capacity.</p>
<figure id="attachment_334936" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-334936" style="width: 690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-334936" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/TCL-CSOT-10-inch-240Hz-tablet-screen.jpg?x10805" alt="TCL CSOT 10-inch 240Hz tablet screen" width="690" height="553" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/TCL-CSOT-10-inch-240Hz-tablet-screen.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/TCL-CSOT-10-inch-240Hz-tablet-screen-300x240.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/TCL-CSOT-10-inch-240Hz-tablet-screen-524x420.jpg 524w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-334936" class="wp-caption-text">Image source: Digital Chat Station</figcaption></figure>
<p>TCL hasn&#8217;t said anything about which manufacturers are signed up for the displays but we won&#8217;t be surprised if they appear in products later this year. For the 10.8-inch screen, that may get fewer clients seeing as there are only a handful of manufacturers that still make tablets.</p>
<p>Having a high-refresh-rate is the cool thing now, especially if you are making products for gamers. Manufacturers are churning out both mid-range and flagship phones with refresh rates that go as high as 144Hz. The trend is expected to continue for the foreseeable future.</p>
