Earlier this week, Huawei held a HarmonyOS operating system and smart product launch event. In this conference, the company officially announced the HarmonyOS along with its tag line “One as All, All as One.”

During the event, the Chinese tech giant unveiled its proprietary operating system along with smart products like the MatePad Pro tablets, the Watch 3 series of smartwatches, and other gadgets as well. Furthermore, the company also stated that it is not only working on smart products and also developing its smart life solution as well to offer users a one stop solution for smart home, smart office, smart travel, sports, health, and audio and video entertainment.

Wang Chenglu, President of the brand’s Consumer Business Group Software Department stated in an interview that the company’s HarmonyOS will offer a user experience similar to Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS platforms. However, the Huawei HarmonyOS will be more tuned for cross platform integration. The company also aims to make more efforts in the smart vehicle and smart home section as well.

Notably, the firm even donated all of its core structures of HarmonyOS to the “Open Atom Open Source Foundation.” This would enable interested manufacturers to get the HarmonyOS system codes and develop product as per their requirements. At the moment, there are more than 500,000 developers that are working with HarmonyOS and the company is expecting more to join soon.

Navnit Nakra, VP and Chief Strategy Officer of OnePlus India, in an interview with TechPP, said that the company has now decided to expand from just the premium and super-premium devices to the premium and accessible connected ecosystem in the country.

He also revealed two parts of the strategy — one focused on the consumers who value quality and great price point and another where the customers are looking at an ecosystem experience and not just a smartphone.

In line with its new strategy, the company is now set to launch its new affordable Smart TV lineup in the Indian market on 2nd July. OnePlus has also confirmed the starting price below ₹20,000 for the upcoming TVs. The company had launched the OnePlus TV Q1 and Q1 Pro exclusively in India last year at a premium price.

Apart from the smart TV, OnePlus is also set to launch a new mid-range smartphone in the market, years after its first such device, OnePlus X. The upcoming phone from the company is speculated to be named OnePlus Nord or OnePlus Z, which was earlier leaked as OnePlus 8 Lite and is set to go official in India next month.

According to Chen Mingyong, the OPPO co-founder and CEO, smartphone OEMs will no longer be simple mobile phone companies. The senior executive shared this statement on Weibo earlier today which also announced his attendance in the upcoming OPPO INNO DAY 2019 to deliver a speech. The event is to take place on the 10th of December 2019 and will mark Chen Mingyong’s first public appearance in 6 years.

The CEO/Founder of Oppo has kept a low profile over recent years, being last seen in a product launch about 6 years ago. In the official poster release, Chen Mingyong is quoted saying, “the era of mutual integration, there will no more mobile phone companies in the pure sense.” This statement implies that the company is looking into further diversifying away from smartphones in the near future.

OEMs no longer being simple smartphone companies is already true in a few regards. A notable example of this is Apple which is highly touted for its robust and productive gadget ecosystem ranging from smartphones, smartwatches, laptops, computers and more. Microsoft and Huawei are also great examples and more companies can be expected to soon follow this business practice as well.
