<p>The update for all of the devices carries version number 12.0.0.218 and comes with a package size of 1.04GB.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-436395 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/emui-12-huawei.jpg?x10805" alt="emui 12 huawei" width="388" height="800" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/emui-12-huawei.jpg 388w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/emui-12-huawei-146x300.jpg 146w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/emui-12-huawei-204x420.jpg 204w" sizes="(max-width: 388px) 100vw, 388px" /></p>
<p>According to <a href="https://www.huaweiblog.de/news/huawei-p40-pro-plus-firmware-update-uebersicht/">Huaweiblog</a> (via <a href="https://www.huaweicentral.com/huawei-mate-40-pro-stable-emui-12-beings-to-rollout/">Huawei Central</a>), users currently on EMUI 11 can update to stable EMUI 12 easily through the said OTA update. EMUI 12 beta testers, on the other hand, will receive another EMUI 12 stable build sometime later.</p>
<p>EMUI 12 brings along a number of goodies such as granular adjustment for font, updated system UI, smart folders, cooperative authentication function between cellphones and laptops, and multi-device file management. The complete changelog has been given below.</p>
<pre>Font:

Supports more flexible font adjustment, in which you can adjust the font size and width with a slider.

Neuromorphic Design:

Applies the concept of neuromorphic to UI elements. Simple colors, tones, shadows, and highlights are used to achieve a more realistic effect.

Smart Folders:

Supports pressing and holding app folders on the home screen to enlarge them and make the apps within them easier to access.

Notification Panel and Control Panel:

Allows you to swipe down from the top left of the screen to access the Notifications panel to view notifications, and swipe down from the top right of the screen to access the control panel for shortcuts.
Adds an audio control area to the control panel to make it easy to switch between different audio devices and apps. Allows you to quickly activate cross-screen cooperation by tapping symbols for Huawei laptops and tablets in the “Device +” area of the control panel.

Cooperative Security:

Adds a cooperative authentication function between cellphones and laptops, which allows you to unlock your phone by entering the screen unlock password for the phone on Huawei laptop when the phone and laptop are connected through cross-screen cooperation are.

Multi-device file management:

Supports access to documents or pictures on the phone via a laptop without connecting the two devices with a data cable.

Huawei Share:

Improves the transfer speed of Huawei Share for faster file sharing between Huawei phones, tablets, and laptops</pre>
<p>All in all, the OS is now nearly identical to the China-specific HarmonyOS 2. Huawei hasn&#8217;t said anything on what Android version EMUI 12 is based on but it&#8217;s likely Android 10 or Android 11.</p>
<p>It is mention-worthy here that the EMUI 12 update rollout for the Huawei P40, P40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro, and Mate 30 Pro is still in its initial stages, so it may take a while to reach your unit.</p>

<p>This custom skin for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android">Android</a> means that Huawei is keeping EMUI around for its smartphones launched outside China. In its home country, the company is using its own HarmonyOS for its devices and isn&#8217;t limited to just smartphones.</p>
<p>The newly announced EMUI 12 comes with a refreshed <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/user-interface">user interface</a> and tons of customizations. It now has a cleaner, minimalist, and realistic interface that makes use of three colors &#8212; white, black, and blue.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-408735 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/EMUI-12-interface.jpg?x10805" alt="EMUI 12 interface" width="916" height="691" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/EMUI-12-interface.jpg 916w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/EMUI-12-interface-300x226.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/EMUI-12-interface-768x579.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/EMUI-12-interface-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/EMUI-12-interface-696x525.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/EMUI-12-interface-557x420.jpg 557w" sizes="(max-width: 916px) 100vw, 916px" /></p>
<p>It not only allows users to adjust the font size but also its weight just with a slider. There&#8217;s also an easy access control panel allowing users to control playback, get access to Bluetooth and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/wi-fi">Wi-Fi</a> settings as well as shortcuts, and connected devices on Device+.</p>
<p>Huawei also introduced Device+, which is a feature that allows for easy collaboration between Huawei devices, including multi-screen collaboration, making calls, sending messages, and viewing photos, and more.</p>
<p>The EMUI 12 also comes with improved performance, better response time, and smooth app startups, as well as better and improved security features. The manufacturer has been working on updating its older phones sold in China from <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/emui">EMUI</a> to HarmonyOS, while newer devices run the new operating system out of the box. If you thought <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a> was done with EMUI, it appears that isn&#8217;t the case as it has quietly unveiled EMUI 12.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-408736" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/EMUI-12-featured.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei EMUI 12 featured" width="738" height="454" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/EMUI-12-featured.jpg 738w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/EMUI-12-featured-300x185.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/EMUI-12-featured-356x220.jpg 356w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/EMUI-12-featured-696x428.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/EMUI-12-featured-683x420.jpg 683w" sizes="(max-width: 738px) 100vw, 738px" /></p>
<p>Yes, EMUI 12 is now official and it comes with a refreshed user interface as well as tons of customizations. The launch of the new version of its Android fork means Huawei is still keeping EMUI alive for devices launched outside China. Here are the new features and changes that EMUI 12 brings:</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-408735" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/EMUI-12-interface.jpg?x10805" alt="EMUI 12 interface" width="916" height="691" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/EMUI-12-interface.jpg 916w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/EMUI-12-interface-300x226.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/EMUI-12-interface-768x579.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/EMUI-12-interface-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/EMUI-12-interface-696x525.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/EMUI-12-interface-557x420.jpg 557w" sizes="(max-width: 916px) 100vw, 916px" /></p>
<h5><strong>A Cleaner, Minimalist, and Realistic Interface</strong></h5>
<p>EMUI 12 brings a minimalist and realistic interface. According to Huawei, “the innovative interface design brings the digital world to life”. The interface makes use of three major colors &#8211; white, black, and blue &#8211; for a clean look.</p>
<p>For the animation, Huawei says EMUI 12 takes inspiration from how celestial objects move in the universe. You will notice this in the way it has designed the language selection page which has each language shaped like a sphere and in the syncing animation which mimics a celestial object rotating around another.</p>
<h5><strong>Font Customization</strong></h5>
<p>EMUI 12 will allow users to adjust not only the size of the font but also its weight just with a slider. This way you can choose the most comfortable viewing experience.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-408733" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Huawei-EMUI-12-Control-Panel-and-Device.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei EMUI 12 Control Panel and Device+" width="798" height="553" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Huawei-EMUI-12-Control-Panel-and-Device.jpg 798w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Huawei-EMUI-12-Control-Panel-and-Device-300x208.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Huawei-EMUI-12-Control-Panel-and-Device-768x532.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Huawei-EMUI-12-Control-Panel-and-Device-100x70.jpg 100w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Huawei-EMUI-12-Control-Panel-and-Device-218x150.jpg 218w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Huawei-EMUI-12-Control-Panel-and-Device-696x482.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Huawei-EMUI-12-Control-Panel-and-Device-606x420.jpg 606w" sizes="(max-width: 798px) 100vw, 798px" /></p>
<h5><strong>Easy Access Control Panel</strong></h5>
<p>With the new version of EMUI, users will be able to easily access a control panel from wherever screen they may be on by simple swipe. The control panel will allow users to control playback, get access to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi settings as well as shortcuts, and connected devices on Device+.</p>
<h5><strong>Device+</strong></h5>
<p>Device+ is a feature that allows for easy collaboration between Huawei devices. Tapping the MatePad icon gives you a multi-screen collaboration with the Matepad. Users will be able to make calls, send messages, and view the photos from their phone on the screen of the tablet.</p>
<p>Tapping the MateBook icon allows for editing of your phone files on your PC while tapping the Huawei Vision icon allows you to enjoy videos from your phone on the big screen. Tapping the headset icon will switch audio playback from the MatePad or Huawei Vision to the connected earbuds.</p>

<h5><strong>MeeTime</strong></h5>
<p>MeeTime is Huawei&#8217;s video calling app that was announced as one of the features of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/03/26/emui-10-1-brings-an-ai-assistant-new-multi-window-meetime-video-calling-app-and-lots-more/">EMUI 10.1</a> in March of 2020. The new version of the app allows users to seamlessly shift calls to the Huawei Vision and back to their phone.</p>
<h5><strong>Fast and Long-Term Performance</strong></h5>
<p>Huawei claims EMUI 12 is fast as web pages and apps load as you scroll. It also promises that even after long-term use, response time and application startups will be smooth as always.</p>
<h5><strong>Security</strong></h5>
<p>EMUI 12 will allow users to unlock their phone from their laptop when using Multi-screen Collaboration. They will also be able to set their smartwatch as a trusted device for their phone.</p>
<p>There is no info yet on which devices will be getting the EMUI 12 update nor is there a release schedule. Once we have more details, we will make sure to inform you.</p>
