Nvidia GeForce Now game streaming service, which is already available for web users, is now making its debut on the App Store. And with this, the Fortnite game, owned by Epic Games, will be available for iOS devices.

A closed beta version will be available next week to test server capacity, graphics delivery, and touch controls. The company has already started taking registrations and beta access will be granted to the users in batches over the next few weeks.

Making the announcement, Nvidia said: “While PC games in the GeForce Now library are best experienced on mobile with a gamepad, the introduction of touch controls built by the GeForce NOW team offers more options for players, starting with Fortnite.” The company further added that it plans to offer more touch-friendly games in the future.

Based on the information available right now, it appears that users won’t need a paid GeForce Now membership for this. Those users who have been granted access will be able to play Fortnite through Safari on iOS and the GeForce Now app on Android. So far, an end date for the beta version hasn’t been revealed.

It’s been more than a year since Epic Games’ Fortnite was removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store for violating policy as the game introduced its own payment engine, and since then, the companies have been tangled in a legal battle.

Currently, this appears to be the only way to play Fornite on an iOS device until the game is officially available through the App Store. However, on an Android device, as there’s support for third-party app stores, Fortnite is available to download through third-party stores or can be sideloaded or installed directly.

Earlier this month, we had reported on Fortnite shutting down its servers for its mobile port in China. Now, it seems the decision is official as the company behind the title failed to win approval in the region.

For those unaware, Fortnite’s mobile version had launched in China in a testing build. However, this testing version had been available in the country for three years, as the game never fully launched in the region. This was due to the game requiring government approvals to launch or sell copies/virtual items in China. The licensing process to get this approval has become increasingly more difficult with each passing year.

Starting from 1st November 2021, no new user was able to sign up or download the popular battle royale game and as of November 15, the servers of the game have been officially shut down. While the official reason was never revealed, it is likely due to the aforementioned strict rules and regulations. The news also arrives as China tightens restrictions around game makers.

The local government had recently introduced a new regulation that restricted gaming hours for children below the age of 18 that are now only allowed to play video games three hours per week. The developers of Fortnite, Epic Games, have officially announced that it will be shutting down its popular battle royale title in China. The publisher revealed this news on its official website in China and stated that it is ending the “test” version of the game in the region this month.

According to the official post, no new user will be able to sign up or download the massively popular battle royale game as of 1st of November 2021. Furthermore, Epic Games will be completely shutting down its servers in the region on November 15. In this post, the studio also thanked its players for “boarding the bus” and participating in the game. Unfortunately, Epic Games did not offer any specific reason as to why it has decided to pull out the mobile port of one of the most popular multiplayer game currently in the market.

Although, it might have to do with the various restrictions it had faced in China. For those unaware, China had recently introduced a new regulation that restricted gaming hours for children below the age of 18 that are now only allowed to play video games three hours per week. Notably, the games that have launched in China have to undergo several changes to comply with local standards.

This holds especially true for battle royale entries that have to remove any form of blood while also ensuring that the BR game is portrayed as a military training simulator rather than a last man standing game. More revelations have been made in the ongoing trial between Epic Games and Apple. Today, Michael Schmid, Head of Games Business Development for the Apple App Store, gave his testimony. In a Bloomberg report, Schmid was quoted to have said that during the two years before Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store in 2020, the game grossed $100 million for the US tech giant through commissions.

The fine details of the dynamics that yielded the said amount to Apple and the exact figure were left out by Schmid in his testimony, however. When he was asked whether Apple made over $200 million from the Game, Schmid responded that it would be inappropriate for him to answer the specific question.

Apple removed the game from the app store after Epic; the game developer violated its app store regulations by creating an in-app payment platform for Fortnite players. This was in a bid to bypass the 30% commission charged by Apple for such payments. Some industry experts have already estimated that Apple could have grossed more than $350 million from the game. On the other hand, Epic challenges the huge commission Apple is receiving from app developers and is accusing Apple of being a monopoly.

The App Store has been a massive money-spinner for Apple over the years. Last year alone, it made over $22 billion from the store via commissions. The trial is being followed keenly by many other companies who have continued to question what has now been termed Apple tax. This week may mark the high point of the trial, which is already winding down. Apple CEO Tim Cook will testify on Friday in what could further illuminate the issue. Cook has been granted permission by the trial judge to be the first to mount the stand on Friday as the tech giant concludes its arguments. Monday will see Epic also making its final submissions before judgment is delivered.

The trial is a bench trial and so the Judge will deliver judgment without a jury. Whichever way the judgment swing, it will have a far-reaching effect on the entire mobile hardware and software communities.

The on-going battle between iPhone maker and software developers has intensified as Apple has countersued Epic Games, the maker of Fortnite. The WSJ report mentions that it has accused the company of breaching a contract when it introduced a new in-app payment system within the game.

Apple is seeking punitive damages and is asking the judge to restrict Epic from continuing what it describes as “unfair business practices”. The filing comes just days after Epic Games sought an injunction for Apple to put the popular videogame back in its App Store.

In its filing this Tuesday, Apple said that “Epic’s lawsuit is nothing more than a basic disagreement over money. Although Epic portrays itself as a modern corporate Robin Hood, in reality, it is a multi-billion dollar enterprise that simply wants to pay nothing for the tremendous value it derives from the App Store.”

The legal battle between both the companies started when the gaming firm introduced its own in-app payments system on Fortnite which skirted the 30 percent fee that Apple charges for each transaction.

Within hours, Apple removed the Fortnite game from its App Store for violating the rules. Soon after that, Epic Games sued Apple in California federal court, accusing the company of anticompetitive conduct.

Apple has been focusing on generating revenue from services, reducing its dependence on hardware. In line with that, Sensor Tower estimates that in the first seven months of this year, the company generated about $39 billion in revenue just from the in-app purchases, subscriptions, and premium app downloads.

Fortnite, on the other hand, one of the most popular battle royale game, has been downloaded more than 130 million times through the App Store ever since it made its debut in 2018. As per the court documents, Epic Games earned over $600 million from its relationship with Apple.

Earlier this week, a federal judge blocked Apple from shutting down Epic Games‘ Unreal Engine, which is a tool relied on hundreds of other app makers and game developers, according to a Gadgets360 report.

The move from Apple arrives after Epic Games sued the Cupertino based giant of anti competitive practices on its App Store. The ruling from the judge safeguards the computer graphics software/game engine which it offers through an affiliate business. Unreal Engine is used to power hundreds of games and other applications that can be found in applications used in the iPhone. Additionally, we had previously reported on Apple planning on revoking Unreal Engine support on iOS, so it seems that this move has failed.

According to Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, “Epic Games and Apple are at liberty to litigate against each other, but their dispute should not create havoc to bystanders.” In other words, the dispute between both companies should not bring unrelated parties into the crossfire. The legal battle between Apple and Epic Games started after the latter sued both the former and the Google for anti competitive practices on their respective platforms, from which Fortnite was removed.

For those unaware, both Google and Apple take a cut out of any microtransaction and purchase made through games on their app stores. A recent Fornite update bypassed this system, which violated the terms of service on both platforms. The judge also stated that “the current predicament (with Fortnite) appears of its own making” and has refused to force a reinstatement at the moment. Although, Rogers has allowed Unreal Engine to continue powering iPhone apps.

Apple has just responded to its latest dispute which has emerged with Epic Games. The known game publisher had recently had its popular game, Fortnite, removed from both Google Play and Apple App Store, since it brought in a new feature that lets users bypass the app stores for in game microtransactions. This caused Epic to respond with a lawsuit for both tech giants. Now, Apple has responded, saying it ‘won’t make any exceptions.’

According to an official statement by the Cupertino based company, “We very much want to keep the company as part of the Apple Developer Program and their apps on the Store. The problem Epic has created for itself is one that can easily be remedied if they submit an update of their app that reverts it to comply with the guidelines they agreed to and which apply to all developers.” Epic believes that both Google and Apple’s business operations on their app stores are anti competitive, and has filed a lawsuit accordingly.

This entire scenario was apparently planned months in advance as Epic Games responded with the lawsuit immediately after it got removed from both online stores. For those unaware, game developers that use either App Store or Google Play have to give either Apple or Google a 30 percent cut in any in game digital purchases. In other words, ordering a book or food is different, from buying a Fornite skin online, which must be bought through the platform’s respective payment system.

Thus, when Epic silently introduced the new bypass payment mechanics into its popular video game title, it was promptly removed from both platforms. At the moment, Apple has offered till the 28th of August to make changes to this system, and has said that this is a simple fix to the problem. If the publisher fails to comply, then it will be kicked out from its developer program, as reported by The Verge.

Epic Games has alleged that Google had forced OnePlus out of a Fortnite launcher deal. The news arrives just as the known game publisher is suing the search giant for taking out Fortnite from its Google Play Store.

According to Epic Games, Google forced the Chinese smartphone vendor to break off a deal that would have had a special Fortnite game launcher premiere on OnePlus smartphones. Furthermore, the publisher accused that Google also demanded that another Android smartphone manufacturer, LG, also cancels its plans for a similar deal as well.

Reportedly, Google pressured OnePlus against the deal, after it expressed “concerns” regarding Epic have the ability to bypass the Play Store. Additionally, Epic also said that the deal with OnePlus would have had a special launcher available worldwide, but the search giant “demanded that OnePlus not implement its agreement with Epic with the limited exception of mobile devices sold in India.”

Epic Games went on to state that the company “prevented LG from pre-installing the Epic Games app on LG devices,” since LG had a contract “to block side downloading off Google Play Store this year.” Unfortunately, Google has declined to comment on the matter, when contacted by The Verge. Fortnite came to Play Store after all such dealing fell through, but was kicked out earlier this week since it allowed users to pay for the in-game currencies directly to Epic rather than through Google’s Play Store. The publisher is suing both Apple and Google for this, so stay tuned as we will keep you updated on the matter.

The new Creative Island is a part of Fortnite’s in-game Creative mode. The new game mode within the game will allow players to test their skills in a series of mini-games. Dubbed as “90”, the new Creative Island will have 5 unique mini-games. Each of these games will last for about 90 seconds, with the focus on the player’s speed and adaptability.

For example, the Color Dash mini-game will test players’ abilities to color as many times as possible within a fixed time frame, with gravitational effects also coming into play. The announcement that unveiled the new Creative Island arrives just after OnePlus and Fortnite brought 90fps streaming to OnePlus phones.

If you own a OnePlus 8 or OnePlus 8 Pro and also enjoy playing Fortnite, you are in for a treat. OnePlus has announced a partnership with Epic Games that brings support for 90 FPS gameplay on the famous game.

The feature is the first of its kind on a smartphone and will allow the OnePlus 8 series “run Fortnite on the Unreal Engine at 90 FPS. This is the highest frame rate available for the game on a smartphone”.

The press release also said the feature took months to develop. OnePlus is also bringing a feature to the OnePlus 6 and newer devices that will allow owners to easily download Fortnite via a “One-touch” easy installation of the Epic Games app through Game Space. Owners of the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T series will also be able to play Fortnite at 60 FPS.

The 90 FPS feature is already rolling out, so if you own a OnePlus 8, you may want to check your device.

Just a few weeks after announcing it would work on getting Fortnite support on the Redmi Note 7 Pro, Redmi is rolling out an update to the device that brings support for the popular video game.

Manu Kumar Jain posted a tweet informing owners of the Redmi Note 7 Pro that a new update rolling out to the phone brings Fortnite support. The update arrives as MIUI 10.2.10.0.

The update is less than 300MB in size and users can head to the Fortnite site to download the game when they are done updating. The update has been reported to also fix an issue with the speaker and brings support for 4K video recording.

Redmi Note 7 Pro users actually have Realme to thank for getting support for Fortnite. Before the Realme 3 Pro launched, Realme’s CEO, Madhav Sheth had shared a tweet revealing the device will be able to play the game out of the box. In the same breath, he mocked another device, which we know is the Redmi Note 7 Pro, for not supporting the game. That prompted the head of Xiaomi India to work on getting the Snapdragon 675 whitelisted by Epic Games.

The brand he’s referring to is Realme and the Realme 3 Pro is the phone that will have the “one-year-old” Snapdragon 710 processor. To be fair, Realme started it first with the tweet below.

Anyway, Redmi Note 7 Pro users may soon be able to play Fortnite on their phones according to Mr. Jain.

The RN7 Pro doesn’t support it because the chipset powering it, the Snapdragon 675, isn’t available in the US yet. Epic Games is based in the US and since they have not been able to test and certify it, phones powered by it won’t support Fortnite.

The Snapdragon 710 powers the Nokia 8.1 which is sold in the US and has been certified by Epic Games which is why the Realme 3 Pro can run the game. Xiaomi/Redmi is already working with Qualcomm and Epic Games to get the Redmi Note 7 Pro certified. When it is completed, owners will be able to join the Fortnite party.

The Realme 3 Pro is shaping up to be a real contender to the Redmi Note 7 Pro. A new feature teased by Realme‘s CEO shows the Realme 3 Pro will come with a feature the Redmi Note 7 Pro or a lot of other phones for that matter do not have (yet).

Madhav Sheth took to Twitter to reveal that the Realme 3 Pro will be able to run Fortnite. He not only confirmed their upcoming phone will support the popular game but also dissed another “Pro” device that can’t run it. If you look at the picture, you will see that the “Pro” device is the Redmi Note 7 Pro.

The tweet also teases that the Realme 3 Pro will come with a faster mobile processor than its closest competition, the Redmi Note 7 Pro, based on the statement “When it comes to speed, chipset matters.”

The retail box for the phone also makes an appearance in the image but save for the name, there isn’t anything of interest on the body, not even a picture of the phone itself.
