Apple’s iPad lineup is due for an upgrade and there have been a lot of rumors around them. There’s talk of the OLED iPad Pro a redesigned iPad Air.

A new rumor by seasoned Weibo tipster Instant Digital (via MacRumors) now suggests that the upcoming iPad Air and iPad Pro will have a landscape front-facing camera.

Currently both the Air and Pro iPads feature front-facing cameras on the top of the device. It creates an off-center view during landscape FaceTime calls for users.

Apple took steps to address this issue somewhat with the 10th-generation iPad. Since then, however, Apple hasn’t released any new iPads, but it seems like the company might be extending this improvement to additional models.

Code uncovered within iOS 17.4 also hinted at a landscape camera orientation for the upcoming iPad Pro. And the leaker now suggests that the redesigned iPad Air, which is rumored to be available in both 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch sizes, will also adopt this camera placement.

The logistics of this shift remain unclear. The current Apple Pencil connects magnetically to the side of the iPad Pro and iPad Air for charging which could potentially conflict with a side-mounted camera.

However, there are also rumors of a new Apple Pencil release alongside the updated iPads. So Apple may have found a design solution.

The redesigned iPad Air and the new OLED iPad Pro models are expected to launch soon, possibly within the month. These updates, if accurate, would indicate a broader design shift in Apple’s tablet lineup focused on improved usability.
