The Galaxy A11 is one of the many budget smartphones launched by Samsung in the first half of 2020. The device debuted with Android 10-based One UI Core 2.x. Now, a year after its release, the handset has started receiving the Android 11 update.

The Android 11 update for the Samsung Galaxy A11 arrives as One UI Core 3.1. According to SamMobile, the update is currently live in Panama with firmware version A115MUBU2BUE1.

Apart from bringing new features and UI design, the latest system update for this yesteryear budget smartphone also bumps up the security patch level to May 2021.

Like any other OTA system update, this one is also being rolled out in batches. But it should be available for all users around the world in the coming days. Users can navigate to Settings > Software update > Download and install to check whether their phone has received the update.

Samsung is committed to providing at least four years of security patches for the Galaxy A11. Hence, the device should receive software updates until 2024. 

However, the handset is not eligible for three generations of Android updates. But that does not mean it won’t receive Android 12 since Samsung is known for delivering at least two Android updates for most of its smartphones.

Market research firm Omdia has published a report on most shipped smartphones in 2020. As per the report, only three brands made it to the top 10, just like 2019. These companies were none other than Apple, Samsung, and Xiaomi.

According to the chart released by Omdia, the iPhone 11 was the most shipped smartphone in 2020 with 64.8 million units in shipments and $754 ASP (Average Selling Price). For those unaware, this handset’s predecessor (iPhone XR) topped the list in 2019 but the units were less at 46.3 million and the ASP was a bit more at $777.

Further, the second, third, seventh, and tenth positions were also occupied by Apple with the 2020 iPhone SE (24.2 million), iPhone 12 (23.3 million), iPhone 12 Pro Max (16.8 million), and iPhone 12 Mini (14.8 million). The ASP of these models were $451, $896, $1,232, and $796 respectively.

Interestingly, the iPhone 12 Mini shipped more than the iPhone 12 Pro although numerous reports stated poor sales. The latter phone is not even included in Omdia’a top 10 chart.

Further, with Apple sitting in five places, Samsung captured four positions. The South Korean tech giant’s Galaxy A51 ($269), Galaxy A21s ($192), Galaxy A01 ($115), and Galaxy A11 ($158) came fourth, fifth, sixth, and eighth respectively. The shipments of these devices stood at 23.2 million, 19.4 million, 16.9 million, and 15.3 million units.

Lastly, the Redmi Note 9 Pro by Xiaomi was in ninth place with 15 million units in shipments and $161 ASP.

In late October, Canalys published a report on Global Smartphone Market Q3 2020. According to that, Xiaomi beat Apple to become the world’s third-largest smartphone brand for the first time. Now, more than a week later, the research firm has revealed the most-shipped devices in the same period.

As per Canalys, Samsung was the world’s largest smartphone brand in the third quarter of 2020 with a 23% market share by shipping 80.2 million units. Then, came Huawei at the second spot with a 14.9% share and 51.7 million shipments, followed by Xiaomi in the third place with 47.1 million shipments and 13.5% market share.

Lastly, the fourth and fifth positions were captured by Apple and vivo respectively. The American tech giant shipped 43.2 million units with a 12.4% market share, whereas the Chinese smartphone maker gained 9.1% share with 31.8 million units in shipments.

Talking about the most shipped smartphones, five of them were Samsung, three devices were by Xioami, and two from Apple.

The iPhone 11 and iPhone SE 2020 acquired the first two positions. Whereas, the Samsung Galaxy A21s, Galaxy A11, Galaxy A51, Galaxy A31, and Galaxy A01 Core captured third, fourth, fifth, eighth, and tenth places respectively.

On the other hand, Xiaomi obtained sixth, seventh, and ninth positions with Redmi Note 9/Redmi 10X 4G, Redmi 9, and Redmi 9A respectively.

In December 2019, Samsung announced the Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71 smartphones in Vietnam. Now the company has discreetly announced the Galaxy A11 with entry-level specifications. The A11 has arrived as one of the most affordable phones with punch-hole screen and its equipped with three cameras on the rear.

Samsung Galaxy A11 specifications

The Samsung Galaxy A11 features a 6.4-inch LCD panel with Infinity-O design. It offers HD+ resolution of 720 x 1560 pixels resolution. The top-left corner positioned punch-hole on the screen is the home for its f/2.0 aperture 8-megapixel selfie camera.

Samsung did not reveal the name of the processor that powers the Galaxy A11. It has only revealed that the smartphone is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core chipset. The handset comes in two RAM variants such as 2 GB and 3 GB. Both models come with an internal storage of 32 GB. There is a microSD card slot onboard for additional storage.

The rear shell which appears to be made of polycarbonate material is fitted with a triple camera setup at the upper-left corner. Alongside it is an LED flash. Since the past few weeks, the rumor mill has been spilling information on the forthcoming Galaxy A11 smartphone. Last month, the Samsung phone was spotted at the database of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) through which some of its key specs were revealed. The handset has also received approval from the Wi-Fi Alliance. 91mobiles has teamed up with popular tipster Ishan Agarwal to reveal the specifications of the upcoming Galaxy A11 smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy A11 specifications (Rumored)

Th Galaxy A11 smartphone that has a model number of SM-A115. The handset is expected to arrive with a 6.4-inch IPS LCD display that will offer HD+ resolution. A previous leak has revealed that it will be sporting a punch-hole screen. The One UI based Android 10 OS will come preloaded on the Galaxy A11. There is no accurate information available on the processor that powers the handset.

The rear shell of the smartphone is said to be equipped with a triple camera setup that will sport a primary lens of 13-megapixel. The configurations of the other sensors are not known yet. For shooting selfies, it has a front camera of 8-megapixel. The smartphone is expected to come equipped with a large internal storage of 128 GB.

The Samsung Galaxy A11 that has a model number  of SM-A115F was recently spotted receiving clearance from the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Wi-Fi Alliance certification, fueling rumors of an imminent release. 91mobiles has just received exclusive images of the upcoming Galaxy A11’s underlying frame, revealing a few major hardware components. The images show that it will be sporting a punch-hole screen and triple cameras. 

Among the list of interesting updates, the Galaxy A11 seems to sport a single punch-hole at the upper-left corner of the screen. The handset is rumored to flaunt a triple-camera rear setup, although, the post on the publication could not confirm its presence due to a lack of physical sensors. If true, this would be a major update for the Galaxy A11, which hopes to compete with feature-rich smartphones from Realme and Xiaomi in the segment.

The report also states that Galaxy A11 will be housing a mammoth 5,000 to 6,000 mAh battery, which contradicts the FCC listing that mentions the presence of a 4,000 mAh unit. Previous reports also mentioned that the Galaxy A11 could sport up to 128GB of internal memory, further expandable via a microSD card. The smartphone will likely run on Android 10 with the One UI 2.0 skin on top and sport 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connectivity. The Galaxy A11 is rumored to be available in four color options, namely red, blue, black and white.

A benchmark listing of the alleged Samsung Galaxy A11 could be powered by the Snapdragon 625/626, which is a older but more potent CPU than the Exynos 7884 found on the Galaxy A10. The FCC documents also confirm the presence of a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. The smartphone is expected to feature at least 2 GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage. Additional features include an HD+ display and a rectangular module for the rear camera, complete with an LED flash unit.

In related news, Samsung also plans to unveil the Galaxy M31 soon. The smartphone will likely retain the specifications of the predecessor Galaxy M30s albeit a few changes. This means that the device would flaunt the same 6.4-inch Infinity-U Super AMOLED display found on the M30s. The device is likely to draw power from an Exynos 9611 SoC with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The primary camera flaunts a 64-megapixel GW1 sensor with an ultra-wide lens, a macro lens, and a depth sensor. Samsung re-established its dominance as the global smartphone market leader last year and the Galaxy A series played an important role in its achievement. The company shifted focus from launching only upper mid-range models on the A-series to churning out a rich blend of entry-level, lower mid-range and premium mid-range models on the series. The trend will definitely continue this year as the tech giant has already secured trademarks for the A-series models such as the Galaxy A11, A12, A13 etc.

Talking of the Galaxy A11, the device has been certified by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The certificate which has been listed on FCC’s website gives us some insight into the hardware in respect of the battery and camera configuration. This is coming just days after the Galaxy A31 and A41 camera and battery specs were leaked.

In this case, the Samsung Galaxy A11 which is expected to be the cheapest A-series model this year features a 4,000mAh battery. The device is also listed to pack a triple camera setup as against a single sensor on the A10. The A11’s camera configuration wasn’t listed.

The Galaxy A11 which appears with the model number SM-A115F will be powered by the Snapdragon 625/626 chipset, which is more efficient than the A10’s Exynos 7884 as it doesn’t have any high-performance cores. The FCC document also shows the presence of a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Some of the other specs, which were revealed in previous leaks and rumours, include 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and Android 10 with One UI 2.0 out of the box. The Galaxy A11 will be available in white, red, blue, and black.

There is word yet as to when Samsung will announce the device, but it is expected to go official with this one in March, exactly one year after the Galaxy A10 was unveiled.

Tipster Ishan Agarwal has revealed that the company has started working on Galaxy A11, Galaxy A31 and Galaxy A41.

The SM-A115X, SM-A315X and SM-A415X are the respective model numbers of the upcoming Galaxy A11, Galaxy A31 and Galaxy A41 phones. At present, there is no information available on the specifications of these phones. However, it is believed that the three phones will be arriving with higher internal storage than their predecessor versions.

The Android 10 flavored with One UI 2.0 may come preloaded on the device. It may come with 48-megapixel main lens, a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 5-megapixel depth sensor and a 5-megapixel macro lens. It may come with a 32-megapixel selfie shooter. The device may house a 4,000mAh battery with fast charging support.

This year the Galaxy A series went from being a line of upper mid-range phones to a mix of entry-level, mid-range, and premium/upper mid-range devices, thanks to the cancellation of the Galaxy J series.

The new Galaxy A series already has several members starting from the entry-level Galaxy A10 to the mid-range Galaxy A40 and to the Galaxy A80 which currently sits at the top. Samsung is planning to release more models such as the Snapdragon 855-powered Galaxy A90 and the budget Galaxy A10s.

According to the latest reports, the Korean smartphone company has already registered the names for next year’s models at the European Union Intellectual Property Office.

The document shows Samsung has registered the following names for 2020’s Galaxy A series:

• Galaxy A11
• Galaxy A21
• Galaxy A31
• Galaxy A41
• Galaxy A51
• Galaxy A61
• Galaxy A71
• Galaxy A81
• Galaxy A91

We are not sure if these are all the Galaxy A phones that will launch next year, but knowing Samsung we are pretty sure there will be more with “e” and “s” suffixes.

We also believe some of these phones will launch under the Galaxy M line in some other markets. The Galaxy A40s, for example, is sold as the Galaxy M30 in markets outside China. The Galaxy A60 sold in China is also the same device sold as the Galaxy M40 in India.
