According to Sammobile, the LTE Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20+ models in Latin America will be updated with firmware versions G98xFXXUHHWF1 and G98xFXXSIHWF7 respectively. On the other hand, the 5G variants of the Galaxy S20 series in the same region are receiving the update with firmware version G98xBXXSIHWF7. Meanwhile, the 5G variants of the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra in Asia and Europe are set to receive firmware version G98xBXXSIHWF6.

What’s new in this update?

Samsung’s July 2023 security patch addresses 90 security flaws in Galaxy devices, with 52 fixes contributed by Google and 38 developed by Samsung (SVEs). Among them, three are critical and 56 are high-priority vulnerabilities, while the rest pose moderate risks. Additionally, Samsung had already included three fixes in the June patch, now incorporated in the July patch by Google. The flaws spanned various areas, including manual package installation, audio system access control, UWB chipset identifier, broadcast SMS configuration, Galaxy Themes Service, Settings, and internal testing functions, exposing the devices to potential unauthorized code execution.

Galaxy S20 series specs overview

The Galaxy S20 series, launched in 2020, comprises the S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra models.
The new update for Galaxy S20 series comes with build number G98xxXXU2ATE6. This is said to be the second update with May 2020 security patch for Samsung’s 2020 flagship smartphones. However, it is presently only available in the regions where the initial May 2020 security patch was not available.

Apart from the security patch, the new update is also said to improve camera performance on all three handsets. Sadly, there’s no concrete proof for it as like any other OTA update, it is being rolled out in batches across various regions.

The audio playback from the handset has a well-balanced mid-range and treble with a good rendering of the sound stage. Balance can be even noticed between the stereo channels but the audio from the device lacks bass at all volume levels. Also, the loud high-frequency response at maximum volume spoils the gaming experience.

On the other hand, the phone’s recording capability is better than its playback. Gcam MODs are directly ported from Pixel devices and are further made compatible with different devices by different moderators. You can download the Google Camera 7.3 for Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20+ units. It will help the brilliant Galaxy S20 cameras to take better photos. The Gcam Mod 7.3 is compatible with all the Galaxy S20 variants like Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, and S20 Ultra.

If you are not satisfied with its default camera app, then the users must try GCam Mod on all the Samsung galaxy S20/20+ variants. However, there are plenty of features present in the stock One UI 2.0 stock camera app, but still, it misses in grabbing essential details that Gcam does. It will improve the overall camera experience and clear photos even in night conditions.

These Samsung phones will be sporting an Infinity-O display design like the Galaxy Note 10. The rear sides of these phones will be sporting slightly different design as the S20 will sport a triple camera setup whereas the S20+ and S20 Ultra will have quad rear cameras. The latter is expected to feature better cameras than the Galaxy S20+. Leaked renders have revealed that the cameras on each of the S20 phones will be housed inside a rectangle-shaped module. Reliable tipster Ice Universe has shared the camera specifications of the S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G

The quad camera system of the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G will be featuring 108-megapixel Samsung S5KHM1 as main shooter. It will be coupled with a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 telephoto camera with a pixel size of 0.8micron. The third lens on the setup will be a 44-megapixel Samsung S5KGH1 ultrawide lens with 0.7micron pixel size and it will also feature a new Sony IMX518 3D ToF (Time of Flight) sensor.

For snapping selfies, the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G will be fitted with a 10-megapixel Sony IMX375 lens with 1.22micron pixel size. It is the same selfie shooter that is available on the Galaxy S10 series and Note 10 series. The Galaxy S20 and S20+ will be also equipped with the same 10-megapixel Sony IMX375 front camera.

The Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G’s quad camera setup has a 12-megapixel Sony IMX555 primary lens with 1.8micron pixel size. It is accompanied by a 64-megapixel Samsung S5KGW2 telephoto lens and a 12-megapixel Samsung S5K2LA ultrawide shooter. Its fourth lens is a Sony IMX516 3D ToF sensor.

Samsung Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 5G

The Galaxy S20’s triple camera borrows its primary, telephoto and ultrawide lenses from the Galaxy S20+ model. Also, it lacks a 3D ToF sensor.

While the leak appears accurate, it is advisable to wait for the official announcement to know the exact camera specs and features of the S20 models. Apar from launching the S20 lineup on Feb. 11, the South Korean tech giant will be also announcing the Galaxy Z Flip foldable clamshell smartphone. A fresh report has revealed that the Snapdragon 855+ powered Galaxy Z Flip will be priced between $860 and $1,300.

Now, Samsung may be joining the bandwagon too with its upcoming Galaxy S series flagship phone.

Next year, Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy S11 as the successor to this year’s Galaxy S10 series but a couple of tweets from two known leakers say otherwise.

According to Ice Universe (@UniverseIce) and @MMDDJ_, the successor to the Galaxy S10 is the Galaxy S20 and not the Galaxy S11.

Based on this new development, the Galaxy S10 series’ successors should arrive as the Galaxy S20e, Galaxy S20, and the Galaxy S20 Plus.

It is also safe to assume that next year’s Galaxy Note series will launch as the Galaxy Note20 and not the Galaxy Note11 series since Samsung now uses the same naming scheme for both lines.

The change in naming makes sense since the coming year is 2020, so everything syncs. However, we believe the 2021 models may not be called the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy Note21 but the Galaxy S30 and Galaxy Note30 series respectively.

Renders and some specs of the upcoming flagships already leaked a few weeks ago. The Galaxy S20 series will have a punch-hole display just like that of the Galaxy Note10 series and a rectangular camera housing on the back holding varying number of sensors. The Galaxy S20 (formerly known as the Galaxy S11) has been reported to have a 108MP sensor and a telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom.

The phones should be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 processor in some markets and the Exynos 990 in others.

What do you think about Samsung’s decision to adopt the Galaxy S20 name rather than Galaxy S11? Let us know in the comment box.
