Garmin recently released its new public Beta version for some of the latest watches. The Fenix 6 series, the Enduro, Tactix Delta, Quatix 6, and Marq smartwatches were receiving the latest public beta update from the firm. The public beta update resolved five bug fixes.

Now, the manufacturer has released a new stable v15.77 live update for the Fenix 7 Series and Epix Series. The company has begun the rollout of the new update to the following smartwatch: the Fenix 7, the Fenix 7 Pro, and the Epix 2, the Epix 2 Pro, the Enduro 2, the Quatix 7, and the Marq 2.

The latest version, for whatever reason, has bypassed Garmin’s Public Beta program. The version is released by the firm via their forum post. It is a following update to v15.76, which was released by Garmin using the same process.

Garmin Fenix 7 Series and Epix Series Smartwatch receives a Live Update including known Bug Fixes

To recap, the Epix 2, Enduro 2, Fenix 7, Quatix 7, and Marq 2 series have received their third stable update from the brand this month. However, the update offers a few changes compared to v15.76 and v15.74 which were released before it.

A bug that kept resulting in a map page crash when specific maps were used is considered and fixed in the latest release. But, note that Garmin has not explained what are these “certain maps”. Moreover, the company claims that v15.77 resolves a bug that prevented ski and snowboard distances from being shown in the ‘All Stats’ section for those activities.

Additionally, members of the public beta can still request for v15.77 update without leaving the program itself. To check for the latest updates on your watch, Go to Menu > System > Software Update > Check for Updates.

The watches come in 3 different case sizes – 42mm, 47mm, and 51mm. Both of them offer built-in flashlights to help you in need. And the Fenix 7X Pro (No Wi-Fi) can even last up to 37 days on a single charge.

The Fenix 7 Pro and 7X Pro Solar Edition No Wi-Fi models are very similar to the Wi-Fi-enabled Garmin Fenix 7 Pro Series. That being said, the key difference between them lies in the absence of certain features, including the Outdoor Maps+ subscription-based map content, the ability to directly download TopoActive maps to the wearable, and the ability to stream music via apps like Spotify, Deezer, or Amazon Music.

Notably, the ECG app, which tracks signals related to heartbeats and aids in detecting signs of atrial fibrillation (AFib), is also missing from the No Wi-Fi wearables. Surprisingly, these No Wi-Fi smartwatches are priced similarly to their Wi-Fi-enabled counterparts.

The Garmin Fenix 7 Pro Solar Edition (No Wi-Fi) is now available for $799.99 and CA$1,079.99 in the United States and Canada respectively. The Fenix 7X Pro Solar Edition (No Wi-Fi) is available at a retail price of $899.99 and CA$1,219.99. However, the availability of these new models in other regions remains uncertain.

The Polaris Dawn space mission will last up to five days. It will be launched from the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida. During the mission, researchers will continually monitor and collect the biometrics of crew members. The health and fitness measurements include heart rate, pulse oximetry, and sleep patterns.

Garmin, in a press statement, said it is honored to be a part of the exciting research effort. The research will advance the understanding of how the human body adapts to extreme conditions during a space flight. The long-lasting battery life of the Garmin Fenix means that the monitoring will be done on a single charge. The four crew members will be continuously monitored both while awake and when they are sleeping all through the mission.

The historic Polaris Dawn mission will attempt to reach the highest earth orbit ever flown with humans and also complete the first-ever commercial spacewalk. The Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH) at Baylor College of Medicine is supporting the research.

The Garmin Fenix smartwatches were chosen by the Polaris Dawn and TRISH team because of their long battery life and ruggedness. They offer an extensive collection of health monitoring features. The data provided by the Garmin Fenix smartwatches will help the researchers to better understand how the body adjusts to space travel. The data will also be incorporated into the TRISH EXPAND database.

Garmin Health continues to provide custom enterprise business solutions that leverage the extensive Garmin wearables portfolio and high-quality sensor data. Their applications cover corporate wellness, population health, and patient monitoring. The Garmin Health API also allows third-party integration in line with specific privacy policies. The Polaris Dawn mission will commence later this year.

The latest software update from Garmin also brings support for Connect IQ System 6. The Connect IQ System 6 allows the user to leave his/her gender unspecified. The update is available for the Fenix 7, Fenix 7X, Fenix 7S, Enduro 2, Epix (Gen 2), and MARQ smartwatches. The update also provides initial support for HRV TrueUp which ensures biometric data is synced between your devices. The update however omits support for the overnight HRV graph which may be available in subsequent updates.

The Alpha version 11.5 software update features additional sailing tools like the Distance to Start data and the Race Day Card. Other tools added to the new firmware are stamina data for bike sports and a workout execution score in the post-activity summary.

Wake surfing and wakeboarding have been added to the activity tracker. There are also bug fixes in the new update and overall improvements. Some of the bugs caused the smartwatch to become very slow or even to shut down automatically. The new Alpha 11.5 update, according to Garmin, is only available to users who manually download and install it.

As you maybe understood from its name, it is a rugged watch, but it is not only that. It is the first GPS multisport premium watch from the brand and it has an outstanding build quality. Due to these and other specifications, it is perfectly able to compete with the best hardcore smart watches in the market. When it comes to professional smart watches, one of the best brands out there is definitely Garmin. The latest series launched by Garmin is the Fenix 7 series, with the vanilla version placed in the same price range as the new Huami watch. That is the reason why it is time for a great comparison between these two wearables. So, here is a comparison between the main specifications of the Amazfit Falcon and the Garmin Fenix 7.

Design and build

The strongest point of the Amazfit Falcon is definitely the build quality. It is built with very sturdy materials such as TC4 titan and sapphire glass, with the latter protecting the screen against scratches and drops. It is waterproof up to 20 ATM, so it is one of the best smart watches ever in terms of water resistance. The strap is made of liquid silicon and the smart watch passed fifteen military tests certifying its resistance to drops. It has a better build quality than the Garmin Fenix 7 Series, but the Garmin is still an amazing rugged watch. Depending on the variant, the Garmin Fenix 7 is made of stainless steel, stainless steel with PVD finish or titan with DLC treatment. This smart watch offers a chimically toughened glass. All the models from the series are compliant to American military standards and they are able to withstand hard thermal conditions and water. The Garmin Fenix 7 is waterproof up to 10 ATM and it comes in several sizes ranging from 47 mm to 51 mm, but the vanilla version is 47 mm.

Display

The most impressive display belongs to the Amazfit Falcon. It is an AMOLED panel with a diagonal of 1.28 inches and a high resolution of 416 x 416 pixels, as well as a 326 ppi pixel density, and a brightness of 1,000 nits. It is one of the best panels ever seen on a smart watch. The Garmin Fenix 7 has a transreflective color display with a diagonal of 1.3 inches and a resolution of 260 x 260 pixels, not at the same level as its rival. So, if you want the best display, you know what to choose.

Specs & Software

The Amazfit Falcon has several important features. It is able to import maps and it supports the proprietary algotithm Zepp Coach which uses the artificial intelligence to give indications on the kind of activities to do depending on the user’s experience and its physical status. It runs the Zepp OS proprietary operating system and it is able to track up to 159 sports, with the display turned on for the whole session. The information about the workout can be synced to third party apps such as Apple Health, Google Fit, Adidas Running and Strava. The Garmin Fenix 7 comes with military geolocation features able to access more satellitar frequencies in order to obtain a qucker and more accurate FIX even when there is no coverage of classic GPS signals. It has the Sync configuration allowing you to tune the settings of the watch directly from the phone and sync them automatically after every edit. The Garmin Fenix 7 also introduces the Real Time Stamina mode, HIT Workouts, and Visual Race Predictor.

Sensors and connectivity

The Amazfit Falcon and the Garmin Fenix 7 supports GPS connectivity, as well as a heart rate sensor and SpO2 sensor to track the blood oxygen level. They come with all the classic sensors you can usually find on all the advanced smart watches and the Garmin adds the ANT+ connectivity as well.

Battery

The Amazfit Falcon has a battery with a capacity of 500 mAh lasting up to 14 days on a single charge with typical usage, and it can be fully charged in two hours at max. The battery of the Garmin Fenix 7 is able to last up to 11 days on a single charge in smart watch mode, but it lasts up to 40 days with the Expedition GPS mode.

Price

You need about €600 or $600 in order to purchase the Amazfit Falcon, while the starting price of the Garmin Fenix 7 Series is about €700 or $700 (this price is referred to the vanilla version, but there are other variants such as the Solar one with solar charging, with more expensive prices).
The models in the Garmin Fenix 7 series come with enhanced battery performance, a significantly improved solar charging mechanism in some models, and a built-in flashlight, which is not something common with smartwatches. The Garmin Epix comes with a high definition AMOLED touch screen, improved battery life, and multi-sport functionality. In addition to the four brightness levels for the flashlight present in the Fenix 7 series, they are also adorned with a red strobe light that displays an SOS signal in critical situations upon activation. The smartwatches are quite rugged and made to be wear-resistant, scratch-resistant, as well as come with a highly permeable proprietary solar panel, which can boast of up to 200% improvements than previous models.

According to Garmin, the Power Manager function of the Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar has been upgraded with massively improved efficiency and battery life. Up to 24 days of battery life can be gotten under the UltraTrac Mode, while battery life could be as high as 122 hours when using GPS and 37 days in smartwatch mode with solar charging. Several other impressive features include up to 40 sports modes, pre-loaded workouts, and the Real-Time Stamina feature that allows users to adjust their speed and intensity based on their current strength levels.

The Garmin Fenix 7 has the smallest dial out of the three, coming at 42mm. The Fenix 7S has a 47mm dial, whereas the Fenix 7X has a 51mm dial.

Coming to the Fenix 7 trio’s features, the series comes with solar charging support and is claimed to have 54% more solar surface area than the predecessor Fenix 6X Pro. Having said that, the new smartwatch also brings improved battery life.

The Fenix 7 series comes with the L5 GPS frequency range that offers better accuracy in GPS signals. In case you are unaware, L5 is the new GPS signal for civilians and it offers advanced signal design, greater bandwidth, and more power eventually offering more accuracy.

When GPS is turned on, the Fenix 7 will offer an estimated battery of 136 hours to 286 hours. The Fenix 7S will offer a max battery of 90 hours or 162 hours. The 7X, on the other hand, will provide 213 hours or 578 hours with the solar. This is the estimated battery life, however, Garmin claims up to 37 days of battery on the premium Fenix 7X.

The premium Fenix 7X comes with the hands-free LED flashlight feature, where the LED light can throw out bright White light and Red light. It also has the strobe mode for emergencies.

These images reveal the design of multiple new smartwatches, which include the Fenix 7 series, Venu 2 Plus, Epix Gen2, and Instinct 2 series as well.

The new leaks were shared by WinFuture and showcases the upcoming smartwatches in all their glory. Talking about the Fenix 7 series first, it consists of the standard Fenix 7, Fenix 7S, and Fenix 7X, all of which will reportedly adopt a plastic and stainless body. Notably, one of these variants will even house a built in solar panel as well. Although, the exact specifications and details were not shared in the WinFuture report.

Furthermore, the Epix Gen2 is likely the successor to the Epix smartwatch that was first launched back in 2015. The new edition will sport a circular watch face and appears to support built in GPS, along with the usual biometric tracking feature like blood oxygen, heart rate, and even sleep mapping as well. The third smartwatch lineup consists of the Instinct 2 and Instinct 2S, which retain their original rugged design, similar to the original Instinct that launched back in 2018.

These watches reportedly feature an e-ink display that enables a longer battery life and also comes with features like heart rate, step, and sleep tracking as well. One version of the new Instinct even appears to support an integrated solar panel as well. Lastly, Garmin appears to also be working on a new Venu 2 Plus smartwatch, which is expected to launch in a white and black variant. These models will reportedly feature an OLED panel as well and are set to be released sometime in 2022. With the CES 2022 event being just around the corner, Garmin might just unveil these wearables at the conference.
