Gogoro Expands its Battery-swapping Gostations to the Philippines

Battery-swapping technology company Gogoro is adding the Philippines to its operations. Gogoro continues to blossom with its innovative battery-swapping technology and charging stations. It is a fast-expanding map of Gogoro’s iconic green and black batteries for electric two-wheelers and now Gogoro vehicles.

In its home country of Taiwan, Gogoro has thousands of battery-swap stations with a cumulative holding capacity of 1 million batteries. Gogoro’s domestic operations have seen up to 350 million battery swaps. The company has invested substantially in the development and improvement of its battery-swapping technology. The swapping technology has gained traction over the past few years with up to 12 non-Gogoro e-scooters using the system.

Gogoro continues to expand its battery-swapping operations through strategic partnerships with local e-scooter brands. The swapping battery system is one of the major cost-reduction measures for sales of electric vehicles and several brands have latched to the scheme. In the Philippines, Gogoro is teaming up with Globe’s 917 Ventures and Ayala Corporation. The companies are collaborating on introducing eco-friendly electric vehicles for the last-mile delivery market. Gogoro is also enjoying the support of the Philippines Department of Energy and the Department of Trade and Industry.

Gogoro brings to the Philippines, its intelligent battery-swapping technology for EV fuelling. According to its founder and CEO, Horace Luke, Gogoro plans to unlock the incredible environmental and sustainability benefits to businesses with implications for fleet management and deliveries.

The Philippines’ electric two-wheeler industry is budding and holds a lot of promise for Gogoro. A sustainable, effective, and efficient personal transportation system driven by battery-swapping e-scooters could be an optimal solution in the country. The country continues to grapple with crippling transportation issues and the Gogoro intervention holds a lot of hope.

The pilot battery swapping scheme will kick off in Manila by Q1 2023. Delivery riders will use Gogoro’s Smartscooters and the company’s battery-swapping GoStations. It is expected that the Pilot scheme will significantly improve delivery times and frequency for the drivers. It will also reduce the need for parking spots during the long periods needed to fully charge their e-scooters.

Gogoro launches its scooters & Battery swapping platform in Israel

Swappable battery e-scooter manufacturer Gogoro is making inroads into the Israeli market. The company is launching its e-scooters and battery swapping platform in Tel Aviv. Gogoro recently partnered with distributor Metro Motor and Paz Group, both in Israel to deliver its electric scooters and battery swapping stations in the country.

Metro Motor is a popular two-wheeler distributor in Israel while Paz Group is an Israeli gas and energy company. Tel Aviv will be the first city to get the full complement of the Gogoro technology, but this will spread to other parts of Israel subsequently. Gogoro will be bringing its sustainable mobility solutions to the metropolitan area of the capital city in the summer, and expand to other cities. When operational, riders in Tel Aviv will enjoy the convenient and user-friendly swapping system, offering greater efficiency and shorter waiting times.

Riders will quickly swap their depleted batteries for fully charged ones within a few seconds. Gogoro is further developing new technology for its batteries deployed in swapping stations. It will be a lithium ceramic battery that could ramp up current capacity by as much as 140% up to 2.5kWh.The Taiwanese company has a fast-expanding network of dealerships and swapping stations across Asia. The company’s network currently includes more than 10,000 battery swapping platforms spread across more than 2,000 locations. It claims to be managing over 350,000 battery swaps in a day and 275 million swaps overall.

Yamaha launches the EMF e-scooter powered by Gogoro’s swappable battery

Taiwanese company Gogoro seems to be on a ball with the raft of announcements surrounding the company. Just after attracting significant funding for its swappable battery technology, the latest Yamaha electric scooter will sport Gogoro’s batteries. The Yamaha EMF has a very striking design that shows futuristic body panels and has a unique look from any of Yamaha’s previous models. The Yamaha EMF will be powered by a 7.6 kWh mid-mounted electric motor that uses a final chain drive to the rear wheel.

The Yamaha EMF will deploy Gogoro’s technology that allows for swapping depleted batteries for new ones at the GoStations. Virtually all electric scooters in Taiwan have deployed Gogoro’s swappable batteries and this significantly increases the range of the electric scooter.

The GoStations are more than fuel stations in some cities, and they provide the needed support for swapping depleted batteries especially in Taiwan. The Yamaha EMF will be debuting first in Taiwan, and it will draw from the extensive infrastructure of GoStations across the country.

The Yamaha EMF can accelerate from 0 to 50km/h within 3.5 seconds although we are still in the dark about its top speed. The e-scooter has a storage compartment that sits between the rider’s feet, with a cupholder and space for holding a few things. It is unclear what the pricing looks like for the Yamaha EMF but we would expect its partnership with Gogoro could tilt the market towards it.
