Through a blog post in the Huawei Xinsheng online forum (an online community for Huawei users in China), he shared the many milestones that Huawei has achieved in the smartphone market throughout the 10 years since Huawei launched its first flagship, the Huawei Ascend P1, back in January 2012.</span></p>
<figure id="attachment_432696" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-432696" style="width: 600px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-432696 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P1-Huawei-P50.png?x10805" alt="Huawei-P1-to-Huawei P50" width="600" height="320" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P1-Huawei-P50.png 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P1-Huawei-P50-300x160.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-432696" class="wp-caption-text">All Huawei P series flagships from Huawei Ascend P1(Top Left) to Huawei P50 Pocket(Bottom Right)</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Huawei first started development for the Huawei Ascend P1 as early as in the summer of 2011, where Huawei wanted to put out its first competitive flagship smartphone to the market to make a name for itself in the industry. Mr. Wang Yonggang recalled that Huawei called in their research team from Beijing, Shanghai, and Xi’an to fly over to Shenzhen to help develop the Huawei Ascend P1 together with their Shenzhen team. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">After many months of market research and prototypes, they finally launched the Huawei Ascend P1 in January 2012 with a 4.3 AMOLED display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 8MP BSI rear camera in a lightweight and 7.6mm unibody, at a flagship price of RMB 2,999(471 USD) at the time. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Although the Huawei Ascend P1 was not a bestseller by any metrics, it was Huawei&#8217;s first step to transition away from a B2B (Business to Business) company to a B2C(Business to Consumer) company with its first-ever flagship smartphone for the Chinese public.</span></p>
<figure id="attachment_432697" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-432697" style="width: 600px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-432697 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P1.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei Ascend P1" width="600" height="400" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P1.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P1-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-432697" class="wp-caption-text">Huawei Ascend P1</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Huawei’s next flagship, the Huawei Ascend P2, however, was not released in China and was instead released outside of China in markets such as the European and Japanese markets in 2013. This was due in part that the Huawei Ascend P2 was equipped with 4G which China did not have a proper rollout till 2014, and therefore Huawei decided to release it in the global market instead. The Huawei Ascend P2 was also the first Huawei flagship to be equipped with Huawei’s in-house <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-kirin">Kirin</a> SOC.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The next milestone for Huawei was the Huawei Ascend P6 with its show-stopping ID design, as the P6 was the world’s thinnest smartphone at its release, with a thickness of only 6.18mm. Looking back, it was the Huawei flagship that defined the premium design language of Huawei P series flagships for many years to come. </span></p>
<figure id="attachment_432698" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-432698" style="width: 600px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-432698 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P6.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei Ascend P6" width="600" height="400" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P6.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P6-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-432698" class="wp-caption-text">Huawei Ascend P6</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The next big leap was the Huawei P9 with its dual rear camera setup. The Huawei P9 was Huawei’s first phone to collaborate with famous camera imaging company Leica, and the P9’s rear camera was equipped with a normal color lens as well as a monochrome lens. The phone then captures the image with both lenses and uses computational software to provide the best-looking photo for the user.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The next generational leap in photography was with the Huawei P20 Pro with its industry-breaking triple camera setup consisting of a wide lens, a monochrome lens, and a telephoto lens for versatile photography. The Huawei P20 Pro also came with the popular colourway Twilight, which solidified Huawei’s flagship design philosophy in the premium market.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Huawei P30 series <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/03/26/huawei-p30-and-huawei-p30-pro-launch-with-impressive-new-cameras/">adopted a new type of RYYB colored</a> lens for better images, while the P40 series provided marginal upgrades, such as 10x optical zoom for the series.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-p50/">Huawei P50</a> series was quite a confusing flagship lineup until recently. But Huawei <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/12/23/huawei-p50-pocket-launch-premium-z-flip3-rival/">launched the P50 Pocket this week</a>, the company’s first-ever clamshell flagship foldable, which proved that Huawei is bringing forward innovation to its P series flagships once again.</span></p>

With so many leaks around, it is a daunting task to keep a track of each one. Today, in this piece, we are rounding up all the rumors about the Huawei P50 series.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-401066 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Huawei-P50-Cameras.png?x10805" alt="Huawei P50" width="989" height="567" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Huawei-P50-Cameras.png 989w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Huawei-P50-Cameras-300x172.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Huawei-P50-Cameras-768x440.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Huawei-P50-Cameras-696x399.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Huawei-P50-Cameras-733x420.png 733w" sizes="(max-width: 989px) 100vw, 989px" /></p>
<p>Upfront, the P50, and P50 Pro will flaunt a single camera setup, whereas, the P50 Pro+ will boast a dual-punch-hole camera system. Recently, the smartphone was <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/07/20/huawei-p50-series-to-capture-real-life-colors-from-its-cameras/">confirmed to feature a VARIO-SUMMILUX lens</a>. It is also touted to take real-life colors while capturing images.</p>
<p><strong>Hardware and Software </strong></p>
<p>Under the hood, the vanilla Huawei P50 is slated to come powered by <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/kirin-9000/">Kirin 9000 5G chipset</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-888/">Qualcomm Snapdragon 888</a> 4G chipset.</p>
<p>The P50 Pro and P50 Pro+ would be launching with the same Kirin 9000 5G chipset. The phones will come in the base 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-392889 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-P50.png?x10805" alt="Huawei P50" width="920" height="515" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-P50.png 920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-P50-300x168.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-P50-768x430.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-P50-696x390.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-P50-750x420.png 750w" sizes="(max-width: 920px) 100vw, 920px" /></p>
<p>Major differences between the trio will be in the battery. The Huawei P50 will pack a 4,200mAh battery with support for 66W fast charging technology. The P50 and P50 Pro+ were spotted with a 4,300mAh battery. The former will support a 66W wired and 50W wireless fast charging support, whereas, the P50 Pro+ will support 100W wired and 50W wireless fast charging support.</p>
<p>Earlier,<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/03/09/huawei-p50-series-first-harmonyos-out-of-box/"> rumors</a> had it that the P50 series will run on HarmonyOS out of the box.</p>
<p><strong>Color variants and Pricing of the P50 series </strong></p>
<p>While the smartphone was supposed to be released in Black, White, and Yellow(gold) hues, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/07/01/huawei-p50-live-images-show-a-sparkling-pink-colorway/">a Sparkling Pink model was just seen in a leak</a>.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-397335 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Huawei-P50-sparkling-pink.jpeg?x10805" alt="Huawei P50 sparkling pink" width="696" height="435" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Huawei-P50-sparkling-pink.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Huawei-P50-sparkling-pink-300x188.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Huawei-P50-sparkling-pink-672x420.jpeg 672w" sizes="(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></p>
<p>Just like the predecessor, the upcoming P50 series is expected to launch in the premium segment. The predecessor<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-p40/"> P40</a> was launched starting at ~$900, and with this we can expect the P50 series to start at a similar price range.</p>

However, in a bid to launch the P50 series preinstalled with the company’s HarmonyOS 2.0 and the ongoing supply issue has reportedly delayed the arrival of the P50 models this year. While recent reports claimed that the P50 lineup will debut in June, new leaks suggest that it could be debuting by the end of July.</p>
<p>A Chinese digital blogger took to Weibo to share <a href="https://m.weibo.cn/detail/4650842017498801">a binary code 1011011001</a> to reveal the launch date of the P50 lineup. This code converts to 729, which suggests that P50, P50 Pro, and P50 Pro+ may debut on July 29.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-392889" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-P50.png?x10805" alt="Huawei P50" width="920" height="515" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-P50.png 920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-P50-300x168.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-P50-768x430.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-P50-696x390.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-P50-750x420.png 750w" sizes="(max-width: 920px) 100vw, 920px" /></p>
<p><a href="https://m.weibo.cn/detail/4650865812312981">Another tipster</a> claimed that the Huawei P50 series may mainly include Kirin 9000 SoC-powered 4G devices due to the supply issue. However, there is a possibility that the lineup may include 5G variants. Another source <a href="https://www.dealntech.com/huawei-p50-series-will-adopt-a-1-1-18-inches-ultra-high-pixel-large/">has claimed</a> that the P50 will be equipped with a new 1/1.8-inch sensor for the ultrawide camera. Hence, it appears that the P50 could be featuring the largest ultrawide camera sensor seen on any smartphone.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/24/sony-imx800-will-be-the-first-1-mobile-camera-sensor-and-it-will-appear-in-the-huawei-p50-series/">Other reports</a> have claimed that the Huawei P50 Pro+ and Huawei P50 Pro could be featuring the 1-inch Sony IMX800 as the primary lens, which is the biggest smartphone camera sensor ever. The base model is expected to feature the main lens, an ultrawide camera and a telephoto camera in its triple camera setup, and a slightly curved OLED screen.</p>
<p>The P50 Pro may feature a main camera, an ultrawide shooter, and a periscope lens in its triple camera system. The P50 Pro+’s rear camera system may comprise of the main camera, an ultrawide lens, a telephoto camera, a periscope lens, and a ToF depth sensor. Bot handsets may feature the so-called “waterfall” curved edge displays.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-362973 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/HUAWEI-P50-Pro-3D-CAD-Render-Leak.jpeg?x10805" alt="HUAWEI P50 Pro 3D CAD Render Leak" width="3840" height="2160" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/HUAWEI-P50-Pro-3D-CAD-Render-Leak.jpeg 3840w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/HUAWEI-P50-Pro-3D-CAD-Render-Leak-300x169.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/HUAWEI-P50-Pro-3D-CAD-Render-Leak-768x432.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/HUAWEI-P50-Pro-3D-CAD-Render-Leak-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/HUAWEI-P50-Pro-3D-CAD-Render-Leak-696x392.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/HUAWEI-P50-Pro-3D-CAD-Render-Leak-1068x601.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/HUAWEI-P50-Pro-3D-CAD-Render-Leak-747x420.jpeg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/HUAWEI-P50-Pro-3D-CAD-Render-Leak-1920x1080.jpeg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 3840px) 100vw, 3840px" /></p>
<p>According to @无然熊猫, the latest entry in the Chinese tech giant&#8217;s flagship P series will launch in the second half of next month but shipments are expected to be small. The reason for the limited number of units is currently unknown. Although, it is likely due to the inventory shortage for chipsets. However, this is just speculation, so take it with a pinch of salt for now.</p>
<p>At the moment, the Huawei P50 series is apparently ready for mass production and will arrive in three new variants. This includes the base version, the P50 Pro, and the P50 Pro+. Since these are flagship models, the lineup is expected to arrive with top notch specs like the high end<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/kirin-9000/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> HiSilicon Kirin 9000</a> series chips, great display, and a capable rear camera module as well.</p>

<p>As per previous reports, the base variant will feature the Kirin 9000E chipset while the two higher end variants will arrive with the Kirin 9000 processor. Furthermore, the standard variant will feature a 6.1 inch display, while the other two versions will sport a 6.6 inch and 6.8 inch panel respectively. Unfortunately, this is still an unconfirmed report so stay tuned for more updates.</p>

A leak has revealed when this sensor will arrive and has also revealed that the sensor will appear in the Huawei P50 series.</p>
<p>A tweet posted by the leaker that goes by @RODENT950 on Twitter says the IMX800 will arrive in April. In a quoted tweet, he reveals that the sensor will appear in the Huawei P50 series which is expected to launch later this year.</p>
<p>In the quoted tweet, he reveals the camera configuration for the three P50 phones. The base model will have three cameras &#8211; the main sensor, an ultrawide angle camera, and a telephoto camera. The Huawei P50 Pro will also have three rear cameras but swap the telephoto camera for a periscop camera which should bring better zoom. The Huawei P50 Pro+ will have five cameras &#8211; the main sensor, ultrawide, telephoto, periscope, and ToF camera.</p>

<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>In a separate <a href="https://twitter.com/RODENT950/status/1364531046302294016">tweet</a>, the leaker revealed that he expects Huawei will stick to a 50MP lens with an RYYB filter for the new sensor. We expect a return of features such as omnidirectional PDAF for autofocus.</p>
<p>The three phones are expected to enter mass production soon but there are reports they will launch later than their predecessors did last year. The P40 series was announced in late March and went on sale in early April. If the Sony sensor is going to be announced in April, then the Huawei P50 series can&#8217;t launch in March.</p>
