Around April last year, Huawei released the EMUI 8.1 which brought along a new feature called Huawei Share, allowing users to share files swiftly across systems. The Huawei Share was also launched in November for its laptops with the Matebook 13 being the first model to have it. The feature was upgraded to Huawei Share OneHop with the release of EMUI 9.1 and is available on newer Matebook models with NFC. Huawei has now announced that older Huawei Matebook models will also have Huawei Share OneHop.

Of course, the feature uses NFC so Huawei has stated that from May 11, owners of Huawei MateBook X Pro, MateBook X and MateBook D (2018 models) can carry their laptop to a Huawei Customer Service Center to install an NFC tag for free. The NFC tag is a passive device with no power of its own. Accordingly, when one is used, the user touches an NFC enabled device onto the tag. A small amount of power is taken by the NFC tag from the reader/writer to power the tag electronics. For now, seems to be available in China only but we expect Huawei to roll it out globally soon.

In case you don’t know, Huawei Share OneHop allows the users to share images and videos across your laptop and phone at incredible speeds. All the user need to do is tap the NFC detection area of the phone to the Share tag or label on the laptop and Viola, you can start sharing files. Official data shows that the Huawei P30 series can transfer up to 500 photos to a Notebook in 1 minute.

Huawei‘s Vice-president of its mobile phone product line, Bruce Lee has revealed a hidden feature which the latest EMUI 8.0 brings with it. EMUiI8 was released a couple of months back and has been updated to EMUI 8.1, announced with the Huawei P20. As a matter of fact, the P20 will be the first model to run EMUI 8.1. The new update seems to have added this new feature called Huawei Share which allows users to share files across systems.

Huawei Share is a file sharing feature which effectively turns the smartphone into a file server as long as it is on the same computer LAN  or other mobile phones can access the files on the phone, whether Windows, MAC or Android, as long as they can support the SMB protocol. Server Message Block (SMB) operates as an application-layer network protocol mainly used for providing shared access to files, printers, and serial ports and miscellaneous communications between nodes on a network.

EMUI 8.1 is reputed to be the first deep customisation system based on Android 8.1 OS. It comes with artificial intelligence that makes the software experience smarter and quicker. The updated version of the operating system comes with features like Real-Time Scene and Object Recognition, Smart Tips, and AI-accelerated language translation, among others. It also brings some artificial intelligence-based capabilities such as resource allocation, context awareness as well as user behaviour or behaviour prediction. Thanks to Android Oreo, users will also have access to features like split-screen interface, navigation dock, one-hand operation and smart view.
