<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-327110 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Sony-PS5.png?x10805" alt="Sony PlayStation 5" width="940" height="529" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Sony-PS5.png 940w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Sony-PS5-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Sony-PS5-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Sony-PS5-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Sony-PS5-746x420.png 746w" sizes="(max-width: 940px) 100vw, 940px" /></p>
<p>For those unaware, jailbreaking is the process of exploiting the flaws of a locked-down electronic device to install unauthorized software, which in this case would be pirated PS5 game titles.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-353049 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/PlayStation-5-FAQ.jpg?x10805" alt="PlayStation 5" width="1088" height="612" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/PlayStation-5-FAQ.jpg 1088w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/PlayStation-5-FAQ-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/PlayStation-5-FAQ-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/PlayStation-5-FAQ-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/PlayStation-5-FAQ-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/PlayStation-5-FAQ-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/PlayStation-5-FAQ-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1088px) 100vw, 1088px" /></p>
<p>The hack and the associated Python scripts can be found on Spectre Dev&#8217;s <a href="https://github.com/Cryptogenic/PS5-4.03-Kernel-Exploit" target="_blank" rel="noopener">GitHub page</a>. Only PlayStation 5 systems running firmware version 4.03 or lower are compatible with it. Both console versions may be jailbroken, although doing so requires a PC or Mac. A kernel panic occurred when one user attempted to run it on version 4.50. Even with the correct version, it may need to be executed more than once because it doesn&#8217;t always function.</p>
<p>The exploit isn&#8217;t as good as some of the previous PlayStation 4 jailbreaks because it doesn&#8217;t allow code to be executed on the machine. The Debug menu and writing data to the hard disc are still accessible, which could allow developers to explore the internals of the PS5 further, enabling the development of unofficial patches and emulation for older consoles.</p>

But just this last weekend, a German security researcher has apparently managed to jailbreak the smart tag.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class=" wp-image-388959 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/disassembled-airtag-980x1307.jpeg?x10805" alt="Apple" width="520" height="694" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/disassembled-airtag-980x1307.jpeg 980w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/disassembled-airtag-980x1307-225x300.jpeg 225w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/disassembled-airtag-980x1307-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/disassembled-airtag-980x1307-696x928.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/disassembled-airtag-980x1307-315x420.jpeg 315w" sizes="(max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px" /></p>
<p>According to a <a href="https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2021/05/security-researcher-successfully-jailbreaks-an-apple-airtag/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>ArsTechica</em> </a>report, <a href="https://stacksmashing.net/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Stackmashing</a> declared that the attempt to jailbreak the AirTag was successful. For those unaware, the new product from the Cupertino based giant is a small object tracker that can help users locate their key chains, bags, wallets, and more. And now, the security researcher stated that he was successful in breaking into, dumping, and reflashing the microcontroller of the company&#8217;s new AirTag. As per the report, breaking into the microcontroller basically implied that the researcher was able to both device how the device functions (by analyzing the dumped firmware) and also reprogram the gadget to do things it was not programmed for in the first place.</p>
<p>This was demonstrated by Stackmashing by having the AirTag be reprogrammed to pass a non Apple URL while in the Lost Mode. This mode is the state that the device enters into when the user starts searching for the object the AirTag was attached with. So when someone with an NFC enabled smartphone finds the AirTag, they can tap it and receive a notification with a link to found.apple.com. This link helps the person who found the device to contact the owner.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-385388 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/gsmarena_001.jpg?x10805" alt="Apple AirTag" width="1200" height="799" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/gsmarena_001.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/gsmarena_001-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/gsmarena_001-768x511.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/gsmarena_001-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/gsmarena_001-696x463.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/gsmarena_001-1068x711.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/gsmarena_001-631x420.jpg 631w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>But Stackmashing was able to replace this link with a URL of any kind after breaching the microcontroller. In the demonstration, the security researcher managed to add a modified URL into the AirTag that would directly lead to the stackmashing.net website. While this doesn&#8217;t directly imply a grave security breach, it does imply the possibility of targeted malware attacks that could be made possible.</p>

Apparently, implanting malware on smartphones isn&#8217;t possible <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/10/09/bizzare-iphone-user-reports-her-charger-controls-the-phone-and-even-booked-a-presidential-suite/">through the adapter</a> alone but also via a shared <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/power-bank">power bank.</a><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/shared-power-bank.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-358796" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/shared-power-bank.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="600" height="386" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/shared-power-bank.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/shared-power-bank-300x193.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>China&#8217;s Cybersecurity Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security recently sent out a warning via its official WeChat account that phone users should beware of the trap of shared power banks around them. The agency added that shared mobile power banks may be implanted with a Trojan Horse program. Thus, once it is plugged into a mobile phone, personal information may be stolen.</p>
<div class="su-note" style="border-color:#e5e5e5;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;"><div class="su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim" style="background-color:#ffffff;border-color:#ffffff;color:#333333;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: </strong><a title="More than 20 million Gionee phones secretly implanted with Trojan Horses to make money" href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/05/more-than-20-million-gionee-phones-secretly-implanted-with-trojan-horses-to-make-money/" rel="bookmark"><strong>More than 20 million Gionee phones secretly implanted with Trojan Horses to make money</strong></a></div></div>
<p>According to security experts, such malicious power banks have two general purposes. One is to steal information on the user&#8217;s mobile phone, such as photos, videos, phone numbers, text messages, invading the users&#8217; privacy. The other purpose is the implantation of <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/trojan-horse">Trojan Horses</a> or other malicious programs. Once a user’s mobile phone is implanted with a Trojan horse or malicious program, it can steal data from the user’s mobile phone for a long time in the future, download malicious programs for advertising, and even use the user’s mobile phone to perform other malicious activities. Among the two purposes, the second one is particularly serious, which literally puts the control of your mobile phone in the hands of a third party.</p>
<p>The best way to prevent this danger is to avoid sharing power banks in public. Where possible, always move with your own power bank. But if you mush share power bank, try to choose regular channels in public places to share power banks and products provided by big-brand service providers. Avoid using power banks from unknown sources and niche brands, especially free products. This also applies to buying a new power bank.</p>
<p>Secondly, Android phone users should try not to turn on the &#8220;Developer Mode&#8221;, as it is more vulnerable to attacks.</p>
<p>Furthermore, when using shared power banks and other third-party devices, pay attention to the prompts of the mobile phone. If similar prompts such as &#8220;Trust this device&#8221; appear on the mobile phone, be sure to be vigilant. Once you select &#8220;Yes&#8221;, The third-party device has the authority to operate the mobile phone, which can easily cause user data leakage or be implanted with Trojan Horses.</p>

The Cupertino based giant secures every minute details on its iPhones as well, be it the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ios/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">iOS</a> software, lightning port or processors. But now, a group of dedicated individuals has broken through Apple&#8217;s confining walls to bring <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Android</a> OS to an <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-iphone-7/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">iPhone 7</a>.</p>
<p>Project Sandcastle is under which this great endeavor was carried out by a team called Corellium. The team is known for their previous work which involved bringing Android OS on the original iPhone. So, a recurring philosophy can be observed here, but now <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-10/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Android 10</a> is available on Apple&#8217;s iPhone 7, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-iphone-7-plus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">iPhone 7 Plus</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/7th-generation-ipod-touch/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">iPod Touch</a>.</p>

<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>The project used the checkra1n software intensively to jailbreak the iPhone 7 series to run the Android OS. It doesn&#8217;t just stop here as the group of developers are working on including additional iPhone models as well in the list. But for now, only these three devices will be available for Android since these Apple handsets are a couple of years too late to receive an update to fix the vulnerabilities Corellium exploited.</p>
<figure id="attachment_308700" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-308700" style="width: 1079px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-308700 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Image-059.jpg?x10805" alt="Apple" width="1079" height="1024" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Image-059.jpg 1079w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Image-059-300x285.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Image-059-768x729.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Image-059-1024x972.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Image-059-696x661.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Image-059-1068x1014.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Image-059-443x420.jpg 443w" sizes="(max-width: 1079px) 100vw, 1079px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-308700" class="wp-caption-text">List of features that run on iPhones and iPods (However, support is currently limited to iPhone 7)</figcaption></figure>
<p>Thus, it leads to the point that technically most recent iPhone models can be hacked, but there is no point in it since &#8220;Apple will fix it with an update.&#8221; Unfortunately, installing Android on your iPhone 7 series will result in certain major features to not work correctly. These include essential functions like Bluetooth, audio, mobile data networking, and camera.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/03/05/realme-6-6-pro-with-90hz-display-snapdragon-720g-and-30w-fast-charging/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Realme 6, 6 Pro with 90Hz display, Snapdragon 720G and 30W fast charging launched with Rs. 12,999 (~$175) starting price</a></strong></h6>
<p>Furthermore, the GMS (Google Mobile Services) is also unsupported on the iPhone 7 series. Meaning, there is no custom recovery to flash it in the smartphone either. In a list of demerits, it seems that the update isn&#8217;t stable either since you will lose all data and the Android OS itself when rebooting the device, bringing you back to iOS which lacks the storage taken up by the Android installation.</p>
<figure id="attachment_116871" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-116871" style="width: 1024px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-116871 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/apple-iphone-7-01.jpg?x10805" alt="Apple iPhone 7 Plus" width="1024" height="576" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-116871" class="wp-caption-text">Apple iPhone 7 Plus</figcaption></figure>
<p>Unfortunately, the process is still in beta and it is advised not to be used on hardware that one is currently using. So it is recommended to steer clear and wait for a proper workaround for the issues, if any, in the near future. To download and install the Android build on the iPhone 7, Click <a href="https://projectsandcastle.org/status" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Here</a>.<br />
<strong>Note</strong>: One will require checkra1n installed on your iPhone alongside a Mac or Linux PC for further installation.</p>

Following iH8sn0w, he claims that he will not launch iOS 6.1.6 jailbreak tool, and then playing his own face, and now Pod2g &#8220;the reneged&#8221; has posting at his Twitter account that &#8220;In a few I will have the &#8220;Please jailbreak iOS 7.1&#8243; sentence in every single language in the world. Thanks everyone for that! :)&#8221;</p>
<p>Fromhis Tweet we assume that he is ready to develop a jailbreak tool for iOS 7.1, but he did not mentioned about the detailed information, so we can&#8217;t tell you the release date and we are not sure wether he would be making a separate application for iOS 7.1 jailbreak tool or will upgrade from evasi0n7.</p>
