LEAGOO M series is presently made up of a trio of highly efficient, and cost-friendly range of smartphones that were all released in 2016. The M series is made up of the LEAGOO M5, M5 Plus and M8. The most cost-effective model of the three is the LEAGOO M5 released in the second half of 2016 and which co-incidentally is the best selling LEAGOO model. The model’s popularity cutting across border spanning several countries.

LEAGOO upgraded the series thus giving birth to the M5 Plus which is a little more expensive than the M5. LEAGOO M5 Plus comes with a larger display and faster 4G-enabled operation. The success of the M5 Plus also led to the release of the LEAGOO M8 which sports a 5.7-inch larger display and a huge 3,500mAh battery under its hood.

Although the three M series models are different from each other in details, they all have very similar designs and are tailored towards meeting the different needs of different persons. They are all durable, as all of them are equipped with the tough Corning Gorilla Glass 4. They also don’t lack in functionalities, packing a 0.19s ultra fast fingerprint sensor at the rear and having support for extra 128GB memory expansion.

The LEAGOO M series smartphones also come with the most excellent Freeme OS 6.0, powerful rear and front camera, super HD large display and with durable metal frame. Both LEAGOO M5 and LEAGOO M5 Plus have three radiating colors, including Champagne Gold, Galaxy White and Titanium Grey. On the other hand, there are two equally attractive colors on the M8, which is Champagne Gold and Titanium Grey.

Leagoo M5 Review: DESIGN and DISPLAY

The Leagoo M5 is a very well-built phone. It uses a solid metal frame that goes all around the device and tactile metal buttons. Honestly, the phone feels a lot sturdier than some more expensive devices out there.

Although the backplate is glossy and it attracts fingerprints and smudges, it still feels high quality.

Since it is a $60 phone, we don’t have neither notification LED light nor backlit capacitive buttons but a 5” 720p display is sharp enough for the daily use.

Also, the phone is very compact but it is kind of on a heavy side as it weighs 180g.

We have an 8MP camera and a fingerprint sensor, which are installed in a high-quality metal frame. Speaking of that fingerprint sensor, it is not the fastest I’ve seen but it definitely gets the job done and it works straight from the standby mode. Also, you can use the fingerprint sensor as a touchpad. The ability to scroll through the menus is one of my favorite features.

It’s not that easy to remove a backplate but underneath it, you can find 2 SIM card slots, microSD card slot and a removable 2300mAh battery.

I was fairly impressed by the loudspeaker quality. Sure, it is not the best but it is better than a lot of phones that costs as twice as much.

Leagoo M5 Review: HARDWARE and PERFORMANCE

For $60, the Leagoo M5 has some pretty good specs. The phone ships with the quad-core Mediatek 6580A chip, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage.

The 3D gaming performance is surprisingly good. The Asphalt 8, which is one of the most versatile games to test the phone’s performance runs absolutely fine on the medium graphics.

Having reviewed quite a few phones made by Leagoo, I knew what to expect. The Android 6 based user interface is highly customized. The app tray is gone but there are quite a few features and customization options. Some of them may look a bit gimmicky but others are actually pretty useful.

Most importantly, the phone has been fast and fluid even after installing quite a few apps.

You should never expect great-looking images from the phone this cheap and the Leagoo M5 is no exception. Sure, you can get some decent images that are usable for social media but nothing more.

Same can be said about the front facing camera.

I didn’t have any issues with neither of the connectivity options except for the fact that it takes a bit longer to get the GPS position lock.

A 2300mAh does not really sound impressive. The battery will get you through the day if you are not a heavy user only. That translates to just over 3 hours of screen-on time.

Leagoo M5 is a very solid phone for just $60. Sure, it is not a perfect device but even with a few shortcomings, it can be highly recommended if you are in the market of a super cheap smartphone for under $60.

Leagoo has a new device called the Leagoo M5 and they are touting it as the first nano all-metal closed loop frame smartphone in the world. That is a pretty long description and I’m sure you do want to know what that means.

Leagoo, in their own words says they have ”finally solved an engineering challenge after days of testing and focus to achieve a smooth and delicate all-metal frame body which has a tougher structure and delivers an amazing hand feeling”. To put it in simpler words, the phone features a tougher build quality and an amazing hand feel.

Leagoo says you should’t worry about the device suffering damages when it falls as the phone has been designed with a shock-proof panel to absorb falls.

The Leagoo M5 has a 5.0” 2.5D HD bullet-proof glass display, 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM which can be expanded to 128GB via a SD card slot, 1.3GHz MTK6580A processor, an 8MP rear camera with flash, 5Mp for selfies, a 2300mAh battery said to last more than a day, and a fingerprint scanner that unlocks the phone in 0.19 seconds. The M5 also runs Leagoo’s Freeme OS 6.0 which is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and has dual SIM slots with only 3G and 2G networks supported.

The Leagoo M5 is available in galaxy white, champagne gold, and titanium grey. There is no info about the price, but Leagoo says it is sure going to  affordable.

There have been minor rumors going around recently about a new smartphone from the Chinese company Leagoo, called as the Leagoo M5. Now, we have a few more details to add about this upcoming device.

The new image reveals that the Leagoo M5 will come with a metal frame. We are not quite sure whether the body is made out of plastic or glass. But what we do know is that the phone will be compact, since it is expected to come with a 5-inch display. The compact and slim body should be good enough for one-handed operation. The volume buttons and the power button are all located on the right side of the device, while the USB port is situated at the bottom. This should mean that the speakers are located on the back of the phone.

As for the specs, the Leagoo M5 is said to come with 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM. The company will be using the FreemeOS 6.0 on the device, which is based on Android 6.0. We have no idea about the CPU inside, but it should be an entry level mid-ranger. While we don’t see it in the picture, at the back, the phone is also said to come with a fingerprint sensor, which has become a standard feature among Leagoo smartphones recently.

The price is said to be reasonable, but we have no official figures as of now. Stay tuned for more details in the coming days.
