Lenovo has launched the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 30th Anniversary Edition. The model is released to mark the 30th anniversary since the brand released the first ThinkPad laptop. There are about 5,000 units of this limited-edition commemorative ThinkPad X1. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon 30th Anniversary Edition has a carbon fiber top cover and a retro RGB ThinkPad three-color Logo. The model also sports the 30th Anniversary Edition logo, as well as green and blue TrackPoint replacement caps.

The ThinkPad X1 commemorative model has a 14-inch OLED screen that outputs 2.8K videos with a resolution of 2880 x 1800p. The position of the rotating shaft is numbered from 0001 to 5000 representing the number of units available. The display covers a 100% P3 color gamut and has a 90Hz refresh rate.

The model is powered by the Intel Core i7-1260P processor with 32GB running memory and 1TB of storage. The new tablet has a 1080p high-definition camera with Windows Hello face recognition integrated into the device. There are also four microphones with support for far-field audio pickup.

The packaging of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 30th Anniversary Edition is made of 100% rapidly renewable bamboo and sugarcane fibers which are compostable. The package also includes a brand history book and Lenovo stickers and other freebies.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon is available on pre-order in Taiwan for around $2,870 (NT$90,900). The model will be released fully in December 2022. It has been a huge trajectory of success since 1992 when the first ThinkPad was launched in Japan. It has gone through several innovations all through which continue to make it a competitive tablet.

At the CES 2021, Lenovo updated two of its top-tier devices — Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon and Lenovo X1 Yoga. Both the devices are now powered by the 11th generation Intel processors with vPro support.

The devices also come with an updated display panel. This time, the company has opted for a 16:10 aspect ratio screen with a reduced bottom bezel. It also supports Dolby Vision for display and Dolby Atmos for audio. For the first time, these laptops come with support for Dolby Voice for online meetings.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon

The laptop features a 14-inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and comes with Full HD+ resolution as well as UHD+ resolution support and the brightness on the device can reach a peak value of 500nits.

Along with the Intel 11th generation processor, the device packs Intel Xe graphics, promising better overall performance compared to the previous generation models. It packs up to 32GB of LPDDR4x RAM and up to 2TB SSD.

It comes with an optional 4G LTE or 5G connectivity option. Running the Windows 10 operating system, the device supports Windows Hello IR with a privacy shutter. It is powered by a 57WHr battery and should offer more battery life than its predecessor.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga

This is the latest convertible offering from the company. It comes with a detachable keyboard with TrackPoint system and has an integrated pen that makes it easier for the users to take notes or markup a document.

As for the specifications, the configuration is similar to the one found in the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon. This one too comes with support for 4G or 5G connectivity, making it a good choice for productivity tasks.

Coming to the pricing and availability, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon is priced at $1,429 while the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga costs $$1,569. Both the devices will be up for sale in the United States from next month.

According to a LaptopMag report, a new leak from a Chinese website called Baidu has revealed that the company is planning on introducing new changes to its upcoming generation of laptops. As per a user that claimed to have information regarding the 2021 ThinkPad X1 Carbon and ThinkPad X1 Yoga, Lenovo might be bringing changes to the displays of the new laptops.

Reportedly, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga might be getting their first redesign in years, which is the new 16:10 aspect ratio of its display. This aspect ratio would enable the screens to be taller and more narrow than the standard 16:9 aspect ratio found on most laptops. Notably, the change wouldn’t arrive as a complete surprise since the company recently launched the ThinkPad X1 Nano which features 16:10 display as well.

The leak arrived with certain images that also showcased a few other changes to the ThinkPad X1 Carbon’s design. Its hinge is now in a bar style over its previous two small independent hinges that can be found in current models. This would allow for a more rigid frame, with the new speaker grille’s position being housed on the top, right next to the keyboard on either side. Lenovo, today announced a refresh to its ThinkPad X1 series. The ThinkPad series is a line aimed at business professionals and the new series doesn’t fall short of that. The new line includes the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, the ThinkPad X1 Tablet, and the ThinkPad X1 Yoga.

ThinkPad X1 Carbon

The new ThinkPad X1 Carbon is the 5th generation notebook in the ThinkPad line. Now available in silver for the first time, the Carbon still maintains its light weight, coming in at just 1.14 kg. Although equipped with a 14-inch display, the X1 carbon has a 13-inch form factor. The small form doesn’t mean ports are sacrificed. There are USB 3.0 ports, Thunderbolt 3 ports, and a HDMI port too. The battery life has also been upgraded as it now offers up to 15.5 hours.

The Carbon also has enhanced biometric authentication and now boasts an IR camera with face recognition support. According to Lenovo, the Carbon is the first business-class notebook to support FIDO-enabled biometric authentication for PayPal. The feature allows you to authenticate your PayPal via fingerprint instead of a password.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon will launch in February with pricing starting at $1,349.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Tablet

The new ThinkPad X1 Tablet with its 2-in-1 design weighs less than 1kg and passes the MIL-SPEC durability test. You can attach a number of modules to increase productivity such as a projector module; a battery expansion module that offers up to 5-hours of extra battery life and also additional ports; or you can settle for a keyboard dock. The ThinkPad X1 Yoga is the last device in the new line-up. And just like the other Lenovo devices with the Yoga name, this unit also boasts that flexibility. The X1 Yoga has a 14-inch OLED display, Intel Iris Graphics, and an improved rechargeable ThinkPad Pen Pro. There is LTE-A like in the X1 tablet for connectivity and it has a new keyboard called the Wave Keyboard that is spill resistant and whose keys retract allowing the Yoga lie completely flat when in tablet mode.

Lenovo says just 1-hour of charge will get you 12-hours of battery life which is pretty impressive if you ask me. There is also a fingerprint scanner for logging in or you can use the advanced facial recognition system built-in.

The X1 Yoga will be available by March in black and silver with pricing starting at $949.
