<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/">Apple</a>’s newest desktop powerhouse, the Mac Studio with the M3 Ultra chip, isn’t having the smoothest ride into the latest version of macOS. Just a few days after <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/09/17/apple-rolls-out-macos-tahoe-26-with-design-refresh-and-gaming-tools/">macOS 26 Tahoe rolled out</a>, a number of users are reporting that their machines refuse to install it, sending them back to the previous macOS instead. It’s an unusual hiccup for Apple’s carefully tuned ecosystem, and one that has left even the most advanced Mac desktop momentarily stuck behind.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="980" height="551" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Apple-Mac-Studio.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-707325" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Apple-Mac-Studio.jpg 980w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Apple-Mac-Studio-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Apple-Mac-Studio-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Apple-Mac-Studio-696x391.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Apple-Mac-Studio-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 980px) 100vw, 980px" /></figure>

<p>macOS 26 Tahoe went live on September 15, bringing new features and performance tweaks for Apple Silicon devices. But for some Mac Studio owners—specifically those running the M3 Ultra configuration—the update doesn’t stick. According to several posts on Apple’s Community forums, the installation seems normal at first, only to roll back to macOS Sequoia during the final step.</p>

<p>The issue doesn’t appear to affect other devices. Owners of the M4-powered MacBook Pro, for example, report clean installs with no trouble at all. That points to something specific about the M3 Ultra Mac Studio setup.</p>

<p>One user shared a crash log mentioning a validation failure linked to the Apple Neural Engine, raising the possibility of a bug that stops the installer from recognizing the hardware properly. Apple hasn’t confirmed that detail, but has acknowledged the problem and is looking into it.</p>

<p>The Mac Studio is marketed as Apple’s ultimate desktop for creative and professional use, so a high-profile update glitch is bound to raise eyebrows. For now, owners are stuck on macOS Sequoia while they wait for a patch. Given Apple’s track record, a fix should arrive soon, but the hiccup is a reminder that even the most powerful hardware isn’t immune to software roadblocks.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple </a>offers a wide range of PCs from its Mac lineup. But the multiple models can make it overwhelming for new buyers. Some cater to students and casual users, while there are high end Macs that are more suited for creative professionals. From the ultra-portable MacBook Air to the powerhouse Mac Studio, each device has their unique strengths. So here&#8217;s a quick buying guide for the Apple Macs to help you decide which one fits your needs and budget.</p>

<h3>MacBook Air: Best for Students &amp; Everyday Use</h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="572" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/apple-15-inch-macbook-air-intel-1024x572.jpeg?x44794" alt="MacBook Air" class="wp-image-549372" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/apple-15-inch-macbook-air-intel-1024x572.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/apple-15-inch-macbook-air-intel-300x168.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/apple-15-inch-macbook-air-intel-768x429.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/apple-15-inch-macbook-air-intel-1536x858.jpeg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/apple-15-inch-macbook-air-intel-696x389.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/apple-15-inch-macbook-air-intel-1068x597.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/apple-15-inch-macbook-air-intel-752x420.jpeg 752w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/apple-15-inch-macbook-air-intel.jpeg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Apple MacBook Air</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>The MacBook Air is Apple’s lightest and most affordable laptop, perfect for those who prioritize portability and battery life. Powered by its M series chips (<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/06/13/apple-2025-macbook-air-with-m4-chip-on-sale-for-%e2%82%b979490/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">M4 being the latest</a>), you get enough horsepower for every day tasks, light photo editing, and productivity apps. Due to its fanless design, it can&#8217;t sustain intense tasks for too long, but thanks to its power efficient design, you get great battery life. If you travel often or need a reliable laptop for classes and work, the MacBook Air is a top pick.</p>

<p>Apple&#8217;s MacBook Pro lineup offers more performance for intensive workloads. Available in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, these machines feature an active cooling system, higher refresh rate, and the more powerful Apple silicon (M Pro and Max versions). They are built for professionals working with video editing, coding, music production, and more on the go. While they’re heavier and pricier than the Air, the performance gains are well worth it for demanding tasks.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/05/08/apple-m4-mac-mini-amazon-best-deal/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mac Mini </a>is the most affordable desktop Mac. Despite its small size, it packs impressive performance thanks to the latest M4 chipset. This is basically a mini PC, so you&#8217;d still need to get a monitor and the rest of the peripherals like keyboard and mouse. However, the Mac Mini is perfect for home offices, casual creators, and anyone who needs the performance of the Mac without breaking the bank.</p>

<p>The next generation of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple </a>M series processors is expected to debut soon in upcoming Mac products. But prior to any official announcement, a new report hints at the key specs of the new top-end M3 Ultra chip, which appears to be quite powerful.</p>

<h2>Apple M3 Ultra Mac Studio features a beefy processor</h2>

<p>The Cupertino based giant will apparently be equipped with the M3 Ultra, as per the latest Mark Gurman&#8217;s <em><a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2023-08-13/apple-event-september-12-2023-apple-watch-series-9-ultra-2-watch-x-later-ll9geb3n" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Power On</a></em> newsletter. Apple&#8217;s previous M2 Ultra processor offered 24-core CPU and a 76-core GPU. However, the upcoming M3 Ultra is equipped with a whopping 32-core CPU that consists of 24 high-performance cores and 8 high-efficiency cores. On the other hand, the GPU core count has risen to 80 in the next-gen processor.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Apple-M3-Ultra-Mac-Studio-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="Apple M3 Ultra Mac Studio" class="wp-image-557824" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Apple-M3-Ultra-Mac-Studio-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Apple-M3-Ultra-Mac-Studio-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Apple-M3-Ultra-Mac-Studio-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Apple-M3-Ultra-Mac-Studio-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Apple-M3-Ultra-Mac-Studio-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Apple-M3-Ultra-Mac-Studio-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Apple-M3-Ultra-Mac-Studio-746x420.jpg 746w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Apple-M3-Ultra-Mac-Studio.jpg 1777w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The Power On newsletter added that Apple could also be planning to launch new memory options for its MacBook Pro laptops. So now, MacBook models might launch with 36GB and 48GB of RAM. Furthermore, the brand is also testing higher memory configurations for other Mac series of PCs as well. The M2 Ultra-powered Mac Studio could be bought with up to 192GB of RAM, so there is a chance that the M3 Ultra may offer even higher memory capacity like 256GB of RAM.</p>

<p>Apple is currently testing the M3 Ultra for the next-generation Mac Studio and Mac Pro. Gurman believes that the first batch of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/09/apple-m3-chip-testing-launch-october/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">M3-powered Macs will launch sometime in October 2023</a> with the new 13-inch MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models. The new iMac could also feature this processor, while the M3 Pro and M3 Max CPUs for Macs could drop sometime next year. </p>

And now, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ifixit/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">iFixit</a> has released a new tear down video that revealed the internals of the two gadgets.</p>
<p><iframe loading="lazy" title="Mac Studio Teardown: No upgradable storage… yet" width="696" height="392" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TYF527DqnwY?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe></p>
<p>Looking at the video, we can see the M1 Max powered Mac Studio. In the YouTube, iFixit stated that &#8220;If Apple squeezed a <a href="https://www.macrumors.com/roundup/mac-pro/">Mac Pro</a> into a <a href="https://www.macrumors.com/roundup/mac-mini/">Mac mini</a>, you&#8217;d get something that looks a lot like the new (Mac Studio). Based on a previous teardown, we already know that the Mac Studio&#8217;s SSD is not soldered and can be removed. So while iFixit confirmed this, it is still unknown if upgrades are possible. iFixit did find a spare slot on the logic board and put an SSD from another Mac Studio, but that did not work.</p>
<p>On the other hand, RAM is built in and can not upgraded once the user purchases a particular configuration. Another notable aspect noted during the teardown was the massive heatsink. The cooling system relies on a dual fan assembly and the fans are &#8220;so much more massive than other Mac fans.&#8221; Similarly, they also found that the heatsink &#8220;positively dwarfs the <a href="https://www.macrumors.com/guide/m1/">M1</a>.&#8221; Apart from this, the internals of the Mac Studio are complex, comprising of various brackets, connectors, and torx screws, which impacts repairability (scored 6 out of 10 on repairs) and user accessibility. Although, it was praised for its heat management system.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-450907 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Screenshot-2022-03-24-170659.png?x44794" alt="Apple" width="1618" height="852" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Screenshot-2022-03-24-170659.png 1618w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Screenshot-2022-03-24-170659-300x158.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Screenshot-2022-03-24-170659-768x404.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Screenshot-2022-03-24-170659-1024x539.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Screenshot-2022-03-24-170659-696x366.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Screenshot-2022-03-24-170659-1068x562.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Screenshot-2022-03-24-170659-798x420.png 798w" sizes="(max-width: 1618px) 100vw, 1618px" /></p>
<p>Arriving at the Studio Display, iFixit also tore apart the Cupertino based giant&#8217;s latest productivity based display. In the video, we get a short look of the Studio Display&#8217;s internals that looks quite similar to an iMac. The webcam in the Studio Display is similar to the camera on the iPhone 11. Although, this was just a general observation and not a proper breakdown analysis, which will be arriving in the near future.</p>

<p>The Apple iPhone SE 3, the new iPad Air 5, and a Mac Mini are among the devices lined up for the unveiling. There is no way of verifying the current leak, but we could expect a few surprises from Apple during the event. The new leak indicates that we might see a bigger Mac Mini, which is called the Mac Studio, a new and cheaper Studio Display.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/apple-3.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-447829" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/apple-3.png?x44794" alt="" width="1592" height="984" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/apple-3.png 1592w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/apple-3-300x185.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/apple-3-768x475.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/apple-3-1024x633.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/apple-3-356x220.png 356w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/apple-3-696x430.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/apple-3-1068x660.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/apple-3-680x420.png 680w" sizes="(max-width: 1592px) 100vw, 1592px" /></a></p>
<p>The specific leak relates to a YouTube video by Luke Mani, who indicated that Apple is planning to release a new Mac Studio, which bears a striking semblance with the Mac Mini although it is bigger and has greater functionality than the Mac Mini. Performance-wise, the Mac Studio is also faster and cools more efficiently than the Mac Mini.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/apple-2.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-447830" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/apple-2.png?x44794" alt="" width="1552" height="896" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/apple-2.png 1552w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/apple-2-300x173.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/apple-2-768x443.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/apple-2-1024x591.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/apple-2-696x402.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/apple-2-1068x617.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/apple-2-728x420.png 728w" sizes="(max-width: 1552px) 100vw, 1552px" /></a></p>
<p>The new Apple Mac Studio is expected to be cheaper than the Mac Pro. The new Apple Studio Display seems to be a cheaper 27-inch display, with the MiniLED technology omitted. There are several other omissions that imply that the new Apple Studio Display will be far cheaper than the Pro Display XDR.</p>

<p>The leaks also relate to a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/03/08/apple-iphone-13-dark-green-color-rumors/">green Apple iPhone 13</a> and a purple iPad Air 5. With a few hours to the launch, we keep our fingers crossed on the surprises Apple has formulated for the event.</p>
