Honor’s CEO Discusses the Challenges Ahead of MagicOS 7.0: Can They Compete with Apple’s Ecosystem?

Honor CEO Zhao Ming recently took part in a media exchange during the company’s first open event at their Shenzhen research and development lab. During the event, Ming revealed the company’s future plans and strategies. Ming also highlighted the company’s plans to improve upon MagicOS 7.0, with the goal of matching or surpassing the iOS experience. Honor aims to outperform Apple in terms of OS smoothness and ecosystem development, building its own core capabilities.

Although the statements of Honor’s CEO are future-oriented, they have a challenging path ahead of them. Apple’s success in software is not coincidence. The company spent decades building an ecosystem and still has areas where improvements are needed. Also one of the reasons for their success is that they develop both hardware and software in-house, freeing themselves from external dependencies. Unfortunately, this is not the case for any manufacturer except for the insufficient efforts of Samsung and Huawei.

Zhao Ming did not hesitate to express his criticisms of competitors as well. He highlighted common criticisms of Apple’s hardware, such as poor communication and battery life. Despite these issues, Apple’s premium pricing is justified by its iOS and ecosystem, which seemingly overshadow the drawbacks.

Honor Magic V 14 Series Laptops Start Receiving MagicOS 7 Update With Support For More Features

Honor has a lineup of laptops under the Magic branding, and the company also has an operating system named MagicOS. Today, the company has announced that the Honor MagicBook V 14 is receiving the MagicOS 7.0 update.

The newly released update for the notebook supports the online upgrades of keyboard and mouse sharing, call and notifications sharing, and a few more features.

It enables users with Honor smartphones or tablets and laptops to share the keyboard and mouse as well as receive notifications related to calls. It also has support for notification sharing, enabling users to get the latest information no matter which Honor device they are using.

The list of devices getting the new update over the air (OTA) includes MagicBook V 14 and MagicBook V 14 2022 models, and the Honor MagicBook V 14 series also upgrades the Computer Manager to version 17.0.0.111 in batches.

Those who have an eligible device should be receiving a system upgrade prompt shortly to download and install the update. If not, then the users can also manually try to install the update by downloading the latest version of PC Manager from Honor’s official website.

The Honor MagicOS 7.0 comes with an upgraded software system architecture that creates a fusion ecological experience with an aim for seamless collaboration across the company’s devices and seamless flow across applications.

This new version of the MagicOS was released a couple of months back, in November 2022. There are four platform-level root technologies and system core services — Magic Ring trust ring, Magic Live Smart Engine, Turbo X System Engine, and MagicGuard Honor Secure.

Honor MagicOS 7 Supported Device List Revealed

Honor has just revealed the timeline for the roll out of the MagicOS 7 update. The company has even put out the list for the supported devices, which will be eligible for the Android 12 OS based update that is coming out soon. So let’s have a look at the list.

Starting with the devices that will receive the update first, the Chinese smartphone maker will be bringing the MagicOS 7 to five models first. In other words, the smartphones to receive the Android 12 update first are the Magic V foldable phone, Magic 3, Magic 3 Pro, and the Honor V40 model. The major software upgrade for these models will be rolling out sometime in the month of December 2022. Following this, the brand will also be bring the update to the Magic 4 series of smartphones in the month of January 2023, which includes the Magic 4, Magic 4 Pro, and the Magic 4 Ultimate.

The month of February will be bringing the MagicOS 7 update for the Honor 70 series of smartphones. Meaning, the base 70, the 70 Pro, and the 70 Pro+ model will be getting the major software update in the second month of 2023. Moving forward, the month of March 2023 will have the Honor 60 and 60 Pro, and the Honor 50 and 50 Pro will be eligible for this update as well. The last few models to receive MagicOS 7 update is the Honor X40 GT model in the month of April 2022 and the V40, X40, and the X30 model in May 2022.
