In September 2019, Huawei had launched the MediaPad M5 Lite tablet in India. It had arrived with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. Today, the company has unveiled the MediaPad M5 Lite 10 tablet in the country. It is nothing but a higher version of the M5 Lite.

The existing 3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage version of the MediaPad M5 Lite is selling with a price tag of Rs. 20,990 (~$289) in India. The new version comes in Champagne Gold and Space Grey colors and it features 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. The device is priced at Rs. 22,990 (~$317). It will be available for pre-orders from March 6 through Flipkart, Croma and other retailers. The Chinese firm has said that it will offer exclusive offers for the buyers of the MatePad M5 Lite 10. People who are interested in the device can visit the website of Huawei India and register by hitting the Notify Me button the tablet’s landing page.

Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite 10 Specifications

The metal-bodied MediaPad M5 Lite 10 come with a 10.1-inch IPS LCD panel that produces 1080 x 1920 pixels full HD resolution. The older Kirin 659 chipset that powered Huawei and Honor phones three years back powers the tablet. The Android 8.0 Oreo OS along with EMUI 8.0 runs on the device.

The tablet features an f/2.0 aperture 8-megapixel front camera and its rear is fitted with an f/2.2 aperture 8-megapixel snapper. The device houses a massive 7,500mAh battery which supports 18W charging through USB-C. The slate comes with four Harman Kardon speakers which promises enhanced audio output. Huawei is separately selling an M Pen stylus with pressure sensitivity of 2,048 points for M5 Lite users.

Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite tablet was made official in China in September 2018. Today, the Chinese manufacturer has officially announced the same tablet in India with a price tag of Rs. 21,990 (~$310). Apart from a big display of 10.1 inches, the tablet comes with a huge battery and M-Pen lite stylus.

Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite Specifications

The 10.1-inch display of the MediaPad M5 Lite carries support for full HD+ resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. The display is shielded by a 2.5D curved glass. For kids, the tablet offers an eye-comfort mode.

The Kirin 659 chipset that powered older mid-range Huawei and Honor phones in 2017 and 2018 powers the MediaPad M5 Lite. The tablet comes in two models such as 3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage and 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage. There is a microSD card slot available on the slate for additional storage. The tablet ships with EMUI 8.0 based Android 8.0 Oreo OS.

The frontside of the MediaPad M5 Lite tablet has a fixed focus 8-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture. Its rear has an autofocus enabled 8-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture. It has a massive battery of 7,500mAh capacity. It comes with Harman Kardon tuned quad speakers and Histen 5.0 stereo audio for immersive audio experience. The tablet comes with connectivity features such as 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and 3.5mm audio jack.

The MediaPad M5 Lite ships with a free M-Pen stylus with 2,048-layer pressure sensitivity.  The device measures 162.2 x 243.4 x 7.7mm and it weighs 475 grams. The tablet will be available for purchase during the Big Billion Days Sale on Flipkart that begins on Sept. 29. It comes in a single color of Champagne Gold.

Huawei today launched the MediaPad M5 Lite 2019 model alongside the Enjoy 9S and Enjoy 9e. The tablet is a successor to the model launched last year bearing the same name but having different specs configuration. Some of the design features are also different from last year’s models as can be seen from the hands-on pictures which we have brought to you, thanks to Chinese blog MyDrivers.

The MediaPad M5 Lite is a cheaper and cost-effective version of the MediaPad M5, with a starting price of 1199 yuan ($178) which is pretty impressive. This time around, Huawei made the tablet available in 8 inches and 10 inches display sizes. The M5 Lite is also available in LTE and WiFi versions. The 8-inch LTE version is pictured in these hands-on but we believe it is no different from its 10-inch sibling.

Let’s take a look at the design. The MediaPad M5 Lite uses a metal body that is polished on all sides to give it a curved finish. The tablet weighs just 310 grams, slightly smaller than a bundle of A5 paper. The screen is an IPS display with a resolution of 1920x1200pixels. The display also has a 283ppi and 16:10 fullHD screen ratio. The aspect ratio means there is a sizeable amount of bezels on all four sides of the screen. The display is said to come with Blu-ray eye protection technology, automatic sitting posture adjustment and tablet timeout control settings.

The rear design has the Harman Kardon badge at the bottom which means the dual stereo speakers has the touch of Harman Kardon. The sound also come with support for Huawei’s Histen sound technology in order to achieve optimum sound quality. The tablet also supports voice control from up to a distance of 5 meters. The back is made of metal except for the top and bottom edges made of plastic due to the antenna band that runs through those areas. The rear camera is nested at the top left corner with a pronounced camera bulge. By the way, the tablet also has a selfie camera located at the top centre when the tablet is placed in a portrait position.

At the top and bottom edges are quite pronounced speaker grills at the centre. As a result, the USB 2.0 port is at the bottom left corner and a 3.5mm audio jack is at the same position on the top edge. On the LTE variant, the SIM card slot is at the top left corner and the SIM tray has slots for two SIM while one of the slots also double as a microSD card slot. The right side of the display houses the power button and the volume rocker.

As a reminder, the MediaPad M5 Lite is powered by a Kirin 710 chipset and comes in 3GB+32GB and 4GB+64GB variants. It packs a huge 5100mAh battery which Huawei says can last up to 28 days on standby mode and can play videos continuously for 10.6 hours. The tablet comes in champagne gold and deep gray colours. Apart from its telecommunication equipment, Huawei is better known globally for its smartphones coming out with increasing innovative features. The Chinese company also has its tentacles spread towards the manufacture of laptops, tablets and other gadgets. At the ongoing CES 2019, the company has unveiled two of its gadgets for the US market. Huawei technically cannot sell its phones in the US so, we are not referring to its latest cool flagship phones but the MateBook 13 laptop as well as the MediaPad M5 Lite tablet.

Both the MateBook 13 laptop and MediaPad M5 Lite tablet were launched no too long ago in China and now the company is making them available in the US. Let’s take a brief look at the features of both gadgets.

Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite

The MediaPad M5 Lite comes with a similar design as the MediaPad M5 but the model is a trimmed down version just as the name suggests. The tablet features an aluminium unibody and a 10.1-inch display but this time around, the orientation of the Huawei logo is changed to a landscape direction while the physical home button is also positioned in the same direction. The display adopts a 16:9 aspect ratio and has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution. Do note that the M5 Lie resolution is slightly lower than that of the MediaPad M5. The M5 Lite also comes with a less powerful Hisilicon Kirin 659 SoC and is available in two memory variants. There is a 3GB RAM+32GB storage model as well as a 4GB RAM+64GB storage variant. The MediaPad M5 Lite also comes with four speakers crafted by Harman Kardon and they work in sync with Huawei’s Histen 5.0 sound system to deliver 3D surround sound. It is equally bundled with an M-Pen Lite stylus which offers 2,048-levels of pressure compared to the regular M5’s 4,096-levels. The stylus is only available in some region and looks like the US is inclusive.

Furthermore, the tablet packs a mammoth 7500mAh battery which should provide enough juice to power long multimedia and gaming sessions. Providing the interface is the Android 8.0 Oreo-based EMUI 8.0 OS. The tablet also comes with a dedicated “Kids Corner” interface as well as some novel behaviour-focused controls such as the ability to detect when the tablet is too close to a face, the ambient light is below a certain threshold or if the tablet’s being used from an “unhealthy” angle, such as overhead. In such circumstances, it will then pop up a little warning animation in the corner, which expands to the entire screen if not heeded.

The tablet is available in Champagne Gold and Space Grey colours. The MediaPaad M5 Lite is expected to become available at the end of January and would retail for just $299 in the US. This is a pretty good bargain at that price.

Huawei MateBook 13

Talking about the MateBook 13 laptop, it adopts Huawei’s family-style full-screen design, with narrow bezels around it. The left and right-side bezels are just 4.4 mm while the laptop has a screen ratio of 88%. As the name implies, it packs a 13-inch IPS glossy screen with a resolution of 2160×1440 pixels (3:2). The display has a 178-degree wide-angle view, 1000:1 contrast, typical brightness of 300nits and minimum of 240nit, but the screen does not support touch control. The laptop has a thin 14.9mm metal body and weighs just 1.28kg. The body is manufactured using diamond cutting technology, supplemented by delicate sandblasting technology with well-chamfered edges. 

The Matebook 13 is powered by the latest eighth-generation Intel Core i7-8568U (Whiskey Lake) processor with the lower model utilising an Intel Core i5-8265 chipset. The laptop is also equipped with an NVIDIA MX 150 discrete graphics, 2GB GDDR5 independent graphics memory, thermal design power consumption 25W, with LPDDR3 memory.

On the internals, it has a shark fin fan 2.0 smart cooling system, dual fan separation heat source, seven sensors real-time temperature control. The battery capacity is 41.838Whr (3670mAh/11.4V), the theoretical battery life is about 10 hours, and it can be used for 2.5 hours after charging for 15 minutes. The interface has only two USB-Cs with data transfer and charging on the left side, data transfer and DisplayPort output on the right side, and a 3.5mm headset. Other aspects, it packs a full-size island chocolate keyboard, power button which also doubles as a fingerprint sensor, dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0, 1MP camera, dual speaker, dual microphone, Dolby Atmos sound.

The MateBook 13 will be available at the end of January starting at $1,000 with integrated graphics and $1,300 for the model with discrete. Because of the discrete graphics option, the MateBook 13 isn’t fanless like the X models, which makes it thicker, and it scales back to two speakers from four. It will come in Space Gray for a Core i7 or silver for a Core i5 with prices starting at just under $1,000.
